AI continues to push the limits of what is possible with machine learning successes in self-driving cars and facial recognition, but is often assumed to be off-limits from areas like artistic creation. However, computer science professor Steve Engels sees AI's creative potential. In his talk, Steve will show how AI can model human creative processes, and how creativity is definitely not off-limits! This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I would argue that emulation or synthesizing is not creativity, e.g. to copy and combine paintings into a new painting is not creativity, or at least not a high level of creativity, it a hihg level of synthesising.

It's very obviously not doing things the same way a human would, but humans fundamentally can also only combine, synthesize, and copy things they're already familiar with into a new working. Neither you, I, or anyone can produce something truly "new". Everything we do is just an extrapolation of data we've accumulated. Computers as of now are certainly much worse at giving the illusion of "new ness" and are more limited in the degree to which they can combine the data they possess to make art though.

@@isaiahphillip4112 i partially agree with you. We artists do observe the real world lern from it and recreate it in our paintings like AI can do. I highly doubt though that it will ever be able to create an environment or a character of a specifical desired style in a creative way. Like when we draw sometimes we dont think we just make figures ,silhouettes that just fit our eye using our imagination and shapes and we use different styles. I myself used stialized style for game poster and when drawing it i kinda let my imagination for the dynamic shapes of the characters and i wanted the environment art and the painting style to fit. AI can create art but i kinda doubt that it will ever be capable of making specific tasks for art paintings, like a cool poster for a game. pp.I may have some mistakes in my english. Not my native language.

This subject is just too fascinating for me not to work on it myself, with no concern for profit -- no, what I've made so far isn't really AI, but well, I can't stop dreaming up more to try and do. Yes, I'll have software creating full RPGs with complete campaigns and quest lines sooner or later ... some people will probably hate me for it, but I just can't resist.
