It would of been nice if Adobe had a option to export the masks into the full layer document. To allow the user to tweak the image outside Adobe Camera Raw.

Hi Aaron, we are subscribers and clients and PS users; we're here because of those "tips 'n tricks" and probably more importantly, your style as an educator. Cheers, buddy,

This is great. I've been using the AI masks in LrC and then taking the image over to PS for other edits, but using them in ACR this way is more seamless. Very cool upgrades. I actually wish PS offered LrC filters in this way. Being able to go back & forth between those would be really amazing and would then add the cataloguing power of LR to the PS mix more easily.

I wonder if it really fair to say this feature is in Photoshop. You are really opening a seperate application, the same could be done by launching ON1 or Neo from a Smart Object. It would be nice if Adobe added these masking options into Photoshop.

Fantastic tutorial, even though I didn't learn what I was hoping to learn. I wanted to mask the subject as a replacement for the magnetic lasso (which isn't very accurate - and it's tedious). I was able to nicely and instantly mask the subject in Camera Raw, but I couldn't find a way to turn that mask into a layer that I could work with. :( Exiting out of Camera Raw, my mask was lost.

Is there any way to copy a mask from Raw back into photoshop? It would super help my workflow if I could mask things within Raw and then edit them as normal in PS.
@photopracticum Жыл бұрын
There isn't yet. Although not quite the same, you could use the Object Selection Tool with Object Finder ticked on, to quickly selects large objects in an image. It will not select faces, eyebrows, lips etc. but works really well with larger objects.

Love these new features. and thank you for the insight. Quick question, Is there any advantage to doing these edits camera raw before taking an image into photoshop? Or do you advise to do basic raw edits, then take into photoshop and edit as a smart object for these specific types of masking?
@Dsyoutube111 Жыл бұрын
From what I understand after using this new feature literally every day, performing a mask within camera raw is far more accurate, more convenient and a god send to my work flow. It’s the greatest thing that’s happened to photo editing in decades lol.
@RonIbarra Жыл бұрын
I may have to do some troubleshooting because I do not have people show up - only subject and does not have any of the additional features - but I keep seeing all of the videos showcasing them. Would also be amazing if they implement a way to export these masks and not just sit inside of camera raw!

This is great - but does anyone know how to use these masking filters as an action? Because when I create an action, it will just copy the mask (i.e. pupils) from the original image (the one that was used to create the action in the first place) and does not create a new one from the actual image. Any ideas @PHLEARN

Aaron - thanks mate - awesome explanation of these new features in Ps. Question - can we name the different masks we make, within the Camera Raw Filter feature? Just thinking out loud, but I can see where I could have multiple masks within my smart object -- clothing; background; all the elements of the person/subject, etc - so if I could name each layer (as I create them) it would be super beneficial should I have to go back and address any one particular element. As always - thank you; your tutorials are the best. I still use your version of freq separation. Cheers.
@photopracticum Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. When you create a mask, you will find a menu with three dots to the right of it. The first item allows you to rename the mask.

No. Nothing you do in Camera RAW = Lightroom Classic needs an Internet connection.

I still really dislike the Lightroom-ification of Adobe Camera Raw. It just seems more difficult to find the settings I want, less is visible onscreen at once, and it overall just takes longer to do any given task. I wish there were a way to get ACR's new feature updates, but using the old UI.
@photopracticum Жыл бұрын
I always thought Lightroom's Develop module is basically ACR. I think of Lightroom as a streamlined application made for photographers, where they took the best and most relevant bits from Bridge, ACR, InDesign etc. and packaged them into one. I hope you got used to it by now because I think the new features are really great and actually can speed up your workflow. I wish they would develop them a bit more and that you could pass things between Photoshop and ACR, like masks for example.

is there a way to push the selection into PS proper as a normal mask for other effects?
@TC-cd2ms Жыл бұрын
Yes there is but it requires a few more steps.
@MichalSada Жыл бұрын
@@TC-cd2ms and the steps?
@TC-cd2ms Жыл бұрын
@Michal Sada Turn your subject or whatever you want selected black or white (whichever is easier) You can use the sliders pushed to the extremes to achieve this. Then, everything else you'll turn to black if selection was turned to white or black if selection was turned to white. You should now have something that resembles a black and white layer mask in PS. Next, you'll load it as a layer into PS. Add a layer mask to any layer or adjustment layer you want the mask on. Make sure it's white and selected. From there, you can just apply image and you'll have your lightroom or camera raw selection now in PS. To get multiple masks from LR or CR into PS, just create virtual copies of the image with different selections as a mask imitation, select all virtual copies, and load them as layers into PS.
