This method is good for situations where you don't mind that your mesh gets deformed on the curves. If you want to keep the shape, in old Blender versions we had the "dupl" method; all the objects along the curved keeped their shape... I need to catch up with newer Blender versions, as that option is gone, but should be doable with geometry nodes.

You'd use Geometry nodes now. I've got a video on that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYPcppWCiMlgb6c

I hate the curb modifier with the array modifier, I've seen so many videos making it seem so easy and I follow the videos step by step but I end up with a buch of the object going in random direction all different sizes

In that case I'd use Geometry nodes instead. I find it more reliable anyway. I've got a video on that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYPcppWCiMlgb6c

Haha. I do have long form videos but they generally focus on larger things that might contain a couple of tricks/techniques. That could be an interesting idea though if I get a lot of videos on a similar skill/technique though

Will this flexy tube makers ever relise the thicker rim is a spiral?
@ArtisansofVaul
@ArtisansofVaul Жыл бұрын
😅 I doubt it when at 28mm scale it's probably not very relevant and in almost all instances only seeing the cable from one side makes it impossible to tell and its much easier to model this way. The time isn't worth the result to do the spiral I would say

Coming from a Rhino user, it all seems so complicated. I know blender can do way more stuff compared to rhino but still!
@ArtisansofVaul

That's probably true but as you say the options come to allow a lot of fine control over what you are doing. Generally if you want to do anything you can and it's so well used you can find examples online.

Yea it just shouldn't be this many steps to do this. Such a common operation. Like making many pipes, guttering, cables and so on. It never lines up properly if you move the curve away from world origin. I need the curves up against my houses and for each one to have tubes extrude along the paths but they're always rotated wrong or off centre and dont follow the curve properly. Its a nightmare
@ArtisansofVaul
@ArtisansofVaul 11 ай бұрын
Yeah it isn't the easiest. If it helps now that there are Geometry nodes it is SO much easier, they have pretty much totally changed what is now the "best" way to do something in Blender. Theres an example of using them here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYPcppWCiMlgb6csi=zC9vlQfJ44SnKhw8

I like your videos but saying "This is how you do this in Native Blender" then using an add-on defeats the purpose a bit doesn't it?
@ArtisansofVaul
@ArtisansofVaul 9 ай бұрын
Fair point. I used the addon for speed of the video, I just couldn't fit it in the minute allowed for a short without it unless I then sped parts up and as that wasn't the focus of the video I thought it was fine. That part isn't really the "difficult" bit so I assumed any user with just a bit of Blender experience would be fine with that part.

@@ArtisansofVaul i don’t think a fresh install of blender looks like that. It’s about target audience. Basic tips for new users may be revived more positively if your video looks the same as what they are looking at. A pro wouldn’t care about the slight Ui difference between your version and theirs.
@ArtisansofVaul
@ArtisansofVaul 9 ай бұрын
@@carlsonbench1827 I see what you're saying about the appearance but this is native Blender, having changed some of the settings for the viewport doesn't change that. Also the viewport settings to start with in Blender are hard to view on a smaller screen such as a phone where shorts are generally viewed. I would say it is more important they can get the point of the video and the general UI and options look the same regardless of if the object is red or not, if someone hasn't been able to understand that slight difference I think Blender may not be the program for them 😅
