I painted 40K back in the 90s when kits were just a few bucks lol. We had a Games Workshop store in Florida about 2 miles away so that's where all our money went that was left over after rent and beer lol. I'm now 52 years old and still have my Orc army I made plus an all female Eldar group that I painted up. Back then it was all about 'Eavy Metal style painting so my stuff looks so sad compared to yours. We would throw on the Bolt Thrower album that my roommate had and go crazy painting! I have learned so much from watching you. I'm getting back in to painting minis again because of watching you. Thank you so much for bringing back a part of my childhood that I loved! You are awesome!

My dude. Fav comment of the day, you're most welcome! That's my childhood, too, although it was Nu Metal by then :). Music and painting still works, I reference 'Doom Workout Mix' in the next video if it doesn't get cut out... Although I would only work to that if you have a deadline, not exactly Zen painting 😅. Big love!

I love metallic "Slapchop". I really like that blue and purple shield. Really caught my eye and could look good on some Stormcast too! I'm currently using two versions on my Stormcast Eternals at the moment. First one is for gold : 1) Base: Retributor Armour 2) Over Brush: Liberator Gold 3) Edge Highligh: Storm Host Silver Edge 4) Contrast Paint: Agaros Dunes 5) Glazing: 3:1 Contrast Medium to Wildwood to darken recesses 6) Pick out edges with Liberator Gold and Storm Host Silver Second recipe gives a great copper/ bronze look. 1) Base: Leadbelcher 2) Over Brush: Runefang Steel 3) Edge Highlight: Storm Host Silver 4) Contrast Paint: Gore Grunta Fur 5) Glazing: 3:1 Contrast Medium to Wildwood to darken recesses 6) Pick out edges with Hashut Copper

I don’t normally comment on KZbin but having bought the Series D brush set I feel duty bound to express my appreciation for opening my eyes to dry brushing. These brushes have been a mass game changer for me and have not only sped up my painting but also improved it at the same time. How I have managed without for the last 30 years is beyond me. So thanks. Thanks for the videos, the tutorials and for sharing your technique. Since getting the D series set sone months ago I have now also purchased the S series set. These are definitely my go to brushes now. I’m even tempted to get a second D series set just in case. So yeah, thanks a million.

My favourite way I've done coloured metallics is actually with contrast paints! It's more vibrant than this showcase, it was for an Alpha Legion CSM Kill Team. Based coated with Leadbelcher spray, then a shade of Nuln Oil all over, then an all-over drybrush of Stormhost Silver. Then, a light coat of Akhelian Green over all the armour panels, and the trim is done in silver for you already! Easy, shiny-shimmery blue-green with auto-trim making chaos space marines a helluva lot quicker to paint.

Do you have a video on what brands and even specific paints works best for your D brushes and techniques?
@ArtisOpus Жыл бұрын
Hey buddy :). We don't, maybe we should! It's fairly simple though, you want to avoid matte paints for at least the first few stages, hold off until the final steps. This is why I use a lot of GW and Vallejo early, and then lean toward brands like Pro Acryl only in final steps. I use chaos black religiously as a primer too. The matte paints encourage chalking, same with the primer. You can absolutely still do the t chnique, but you need to take more care if using them. Hope that helps!

Hey brother, big fan of the channel, method, and tools. I got a full set of M, S, and D series brushes, and haven’t looked back since! I feel like your method would be really well suited to horde armies, like Skaven. Yeah, it’s my army, so I’m being a bit selfish, lol. Would you be willing to show us how to “speed paint” a horde army (Skaven, Orks, etc). I’m not so much concerned with speed, but more so looking for a technique that will give me the most bang for my buck with an army with 120+ models. Cheers in advance!

When using a "slapchop" approach, (Prime Black, drybrush gray, drybrush white), do we need to allow for drying time between the Gray & White drybrushing?
@ArtisOpus Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Although you shouldn't have any issues, unless you're on a tiny mini it should have been almost instantly dried (if it isn't, you used too much paint, remove more from your brush to the palette before going to the model)
@southpaw5483 Жыл бұрын
Another newbie question, can I use Grey and White Army Painter PRIMER paints to drybush? or should these be non-primer (i.e., regular acrylic) when drybrushing over the black primer?
@ArtisOpus Жыл бұрын
Hey buddy, you can, but they may lean a little towards chalky, I haven't used them, but some primers are quite heavy, with the exception of some airbrush ones. If they're matte, I'd avoid them, especially in the first steps (it's why I prime chaos black, it's satin)
@southpaw5483 Жыл бұрын
@@ArtisOpus Thank you kindly for your time and insight; I was drybrushing with the Army Painter Air Primers, they are matte; The Army Painter speedpaints, specifically recommend using a Matte Primer; I suppose this may differ when using the SlapChop/Underpainting approach; I think my issue may be too much paint on my brush and/or I wet it too much;

What about shields and armour with lots of small decoration like Lumineth?
@ArtisOpus Жыл бұрын
I would tend to do the lot silver, and just tint the different parts in different colours (if you're going for speed). As long as you want metallic all over.
@Doodlebob563 Жыл бұрын
Awesome. It isn't drybrushing when you've loaded the brush with paint and moisture for a fast solid base coat though. You're just basecoating normally with a huge brush.
@ArtisOpus Жыл бұрын
Thanks man :) The name now as much refers to the type of brush as it does technique, the tabletop industry is absolutely packed with the incorrect use of artistic language In a lot of situations, it does save you overloading people with nuanced two or three words long phrases with French in.. for things that they don't necessarily need to know, though, so there are plusses!

Nope, it's a strong paint, so it looks like more than it is. My last silver lasted 5years, and was my most used colour, so I think this is fine 😅. If I estimate mathematically it probably means I used the paint about 400-600times, given how often it is used on the channel, plus it painted my entire slaanesh army, my ironjawz, and my vampires within that time :)
