Skipping Freedom Fighters was a crime here. But still, I am in love with your transitions. This was a blast to experience.

This is what I love so much about this series, being able to have a bit more of a deep dive and general history of these composers careers, especially if I only knew some for a few of there soundtracks. Jesper Kyd is absolutely one I was impressed finding out more of his earlier stuff, I love Amiga deep diving as well and anytime a composer has good amount of material there, just makes the music discovery more thrilling. But of course I knew Jesper for his Genesis/Mega Drive work, and always loved a good bit of his work was also associated on games pushing hardware limitations, as of course with Red Zone and Adventures of Batman & Robin, I am always amazed with what those games were able to showcase with the graphics, Red Zone is always a personal favorite, and of course the soundtracks are just BANGERS. Absolutely loved that sound driver bit because I feel that information never gets as much attention, of course hearing it is enough to understand how impressive it is, but knowing any information about what sound driver certain composers used and what it was capable of is always a delight. Jesper's rave/electronic era is also just so good, I love seeing composers still keep it up even after not working with chiptunes and limited hardware anymore. But of course that is what makes it interesting with seeing what these composers do when the 2000's came around and if they still primarily worked on consoles or PC stuff that was doing more redbook/non-chiptune soundtracks and of course eventually just all digital with endless potential of music to have in a game, I think that 2013 interview pretty much said it best. But another fantastic Artist Feature for a composer that definitely has good exposure thanks to stuff like Hitman and Assassins Creed, but hopefully his earlier stuff gets even more attention, superb job GST!

That was the first soundtrack I made an effort to listen back to on it's own... recorded it from my genesis to a tape, blasted it in my car... since then I rarely feel the need to do this with an OST, it's THAT good!

I saw the episode you did on Tim Follin, and was going to suggest Jesper Kyd as another one of these, before I saw how old the video was. But then going through your library, I FOUND THIS WAS THE NEXT ONE! I am so happy about this. His music has been some of my favorites, from when I was a kid like Sub-Terrania, to more recent things like the Assassin's Creed series, and stuff that I only discovered recently like Red Zone and Adventures of Batman and Robin... which is definitely an OST that does NOT need to go as hard as it does, and yet...

I've always loved Jesper Kyd's work since when he did Sub-Terrania's music. He's actually one of my favorite musicians and one of my inspirations in the music I compose

Greatest mix work @GST!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 We need more game music tunes than movies like sountrack. Games are not movies nor TV series, but today playing multiplayer with microphone and hearing others players talking, the devs is geting out the game music/soundtrack importance, I think. When the game have a game music tune like on its sountrack I mute others players to hear it. LOL Today is near a game by year is coming with a true game music soundtrack away from movies ost style. ;D

Very good video! Great selection of songs too. Of Kyd's works, one I don't see much about is his work on Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 2 for the original Xbox; he contributed a few tracks to that game ("Red Room", "Istanbul Cafe", and ".59 Remix"), which are very good and very Kyd, especially "Red Room".

The end bit is weird to me given that the Mega Drive actually has one of the best sound setups of its time and from what I listened of Jesper more recent productions, I find that, in comparison, his Mega Drive soundtracks stand out more compared to what was around back then, I mean, there's nothing like Red Zone or Adventures of Batman & Robin on others sytems. btw your video reminds me to dig Scorcher, that game looks great. Also as a DJ myself, I appreciate how your "Artist Feature" videos are made, some sweet transitions there! ;)

For 3D graphics like Red Zone they placed additional microcontroller inside cartridge itself. It's like +1 GPU. I knew that from Virtua Racing cartridge.

Kyd's Genesis music is some of the most orgasmic stuff I've heard from an FM chip. Still my favorite stuff he's ever done, and that's coming from someone who loves his Hitman and Assassin's Soundtracks. His Genesis music is far superior to those OSTs, although those OST's are masterpieces in themselves.

II heard plenty of NiN influence in RedZone. I wonder if he was a fan? or maybe just a contemporary.
@eastwestlost5 жыл бұрын
he has a ton of very industrial yet rhythmic tunes - they are much closer to the european EBM scene, then to Reznor's rocky stuff. but then again, EBM was NIN's main inspiration at the moment, so it seems.

I agree Hardwired is one of the most fundamental demos for the Amiga. However, it can't exactly be promoted as truly original content, since Jesper more or less ripped parts of it from David Whittaker's 1986-title "Panther" for the C64. I'm pretty sure, that if you asked Jesper today, he'd probably not be overly satisfied with that particular piece of music. But that's just my guess, really ;) His later work stands second to none in my book, and it's fun to have been part of the demoscene long enough to actually remember Silent-productions from demoparties :D
@GSTChannelVEVO7 жыл бұрын
huh! Giving the two a listen, I can tell they're similar, but it doesn't strike me as plagiarism. as for your guess: I can actually comment on that! I asked Jesper a few questions while making this video, and one of them happened to be about his favorite Amiga tunes. he replied with this list: "Observations (SOS 2), Last Roundabout (SOS 2), Global Trash 3 (Hardwired Demo), Ministry (Expose Demo) and Radio Moscow (Optic Nerve Demo) (in no particular order)" also, greets from a younger, more passive observer and admirer of the demoscene!

You spoof the Assassin's Creed III logo for the titlecard, but he didn't work on that one, sadly. Just the kinda boring Zimmeresque work of Lorne Balfe, who also composed the cutscene music for Assassin's Creed Revelations.
