This year I'm starting to make comics. It's super challenging but already I've learned so much and found a process that works for me and reflects what I want to create. It's all about the will to start and not procrastinating any further, writing it down and going through with it,. Know that it's not going to be easy and rewarding all the time, but that through the difficulty and the challenge, being out of your comfort zone and in the unknown territory comes growth and many surprizes that are worth the struggle. Good luck to everyone this year, and most importantly - start right now, write it down, make a schedule and go through with it until the finish. Peace and Love.

I don't hold much faith in new year resolutions because i think it's far too easy to let those slip or put them off... 'i'll start tomorrow, i'll get back to it when i get time'! Tyler, for several years now i have been avidly watching your content, with both joy and admiration, and tespect and appreciate your time and work! In previous years i have put off projects for fear of not teaching it's completion or producing the desired standard of work. Now, i look to change this. I now aim to produce the work i want to see produced. Return to the influence and teachings of the artists, illustrators and designers i look upto! Be the sponge i once was for inspiration, creativity and it's infinite roads for exploration. Be less fearful of what i put out there in thevworkd of art & design. Maintain those short term goals and look forward to the what the future will bring to my work. Be consious of the support from my friends, my family, your Tyler Edlin, your words of wisdom and your teachings! *New Website *New Fresh Approach *Be a Spinge for the Positive in my life - let that ferd my passion, not the negative *Create the work i'm passionate about, and share it with the world! Thankyou Tyler Edlin!

My unrealistic goal is to make 84 paintings this year. Why 84? :) Because thats double the amount from last year! More realistically though I want to do more within BST. Its something I've thought of a lot recently and whether I'm successful in my art career or not I've learned so much in the time I've been active. So much more than I've ever learned on my own. I want to get more critiques I want to participate in more if not all of the monthly challenges. I would love to make some tutorials for my own youtube channel as well and grow an art community of my own. Its still early in the year to see that these things will happen but here's hoping! Its been wonderful watching your channel and community grow over the years and wonderful to see how your art has evolved. I look forward to the next decade and I hope all your goals happen. PS. I get first dibs on your artbook!

My goals are to develop more structure in my work, less loosely rendered paintings. Improve my perspective in my work. Develope more interesting and readable designs, in both characters and environments. Lastly is to just learn as much as I can and to be consistent with my work.

I did not know how much I needed this but dang, did I need it. Thank you so much for this. **Edit: I posted this comment before I even finished the video but I just finished it and damn, this got me going. I haven't drawn much in 10 years between a severe burn out and a pretty bad wrist injury that never fully healed. I'm finally getting back to it but it's so easy to get discouraged. During those 10 years I never really stopped learning art. I'd read books, watch tutorials, etc etc. But I either didn't or wasn't able to practice it. So I trained my eye more than my hand. Which is a terrible balance, lol. To see more and more mistakes but be rusty and not quite up to par when you put pen to paper. There's a few youtubers on here that have helped me learn but this is one of those videos that doesn't help you make a break through in some problem you're having with art, but more of a break through in the mentality you approach your art. This is definitely one of those videos I will be watching over and over again. :D Thanks, man.

3 major goals for me are: 1) start drawing character. I was very focused on landscapes and environments the last few years and it got me a job. Lately I've wanted to add more story telling and characters to those landscapes. 2) Get back to copying master paintings. These were the most fun practice I got into before I got my job. Now, having maintained my work for some time I've come to neglect my studies. 3) Get more familiar with 3D. I've gone from hating it to being okay with it and now I know once I know the basic workflows I will come to like it even better. I want to make it useful tool to me.

Hi Tyler and thank you so much for your pep talk and your great videos here (...and also your classes at CGMA, I've taken both :). And congratulations on your growing family! I too have a family with two kids, almost teenagers now. I do struggle to find time and energy to work on my craft and personal growth as an artist and sometimes I get overwhelmed. In 2020 I am going to focus more on taking baby steps, not try to rush, and to organize my time much better. Focus points being: 1. Find effective ways to train in the fundamentals (good training daily or weekly sessions, efficient ways to practice etc. ) - Any suggestions? 2. Build an efficient schedule for these training sessions 3. Focus my personal work on what I am passionate about , like you talk about, and not what I think others would like to see That's enough to start Happy 2020 and I hope it will turn out to be prosperous!

Heida Rafnsdottir hope your doing well, you will have to tell me how to keep up with the kids. Do short studies almost daily, quick low commitment, things like plein-airs, photo or master copies, anatomy, then spend part of your time working i. A larger or longer form project. That way at the end of the week you will be 4-6 hours into it and have 5 studies. Also heads up my patreon is actually live now if you may be interested in feedback tiers.

My goal for last year was to make more pages for my web comics but since I injured my drawing hand that couldn't happen so it's my goal for this year. Last year I started learning about landscapes and lighting and this year I hope to learn even more. I don't know when I'll recover but taking small steps with learning things I thought I'd never be able to, has been really helpful. I'm reaching for smaller goals and it's less stressful even when I fail.

Really enjoyed that landscape materializing. Perhaps a wee bit of Roger Dean in the tree. I noticed in the possible careers there was nothing related to being a fine artist or contemporary artist. Digital painting is still ignored in those realms, for some less-than-brilliant reason. If we were talking water colors or oils, you'd be mentioning galleries, but not digital. Or maybe I missed something. Anyway, good tips. My art: artofericwayne.com/new-art/
@c72614 жыл бұрын
Agree 100% with all you said. Totally see a Roger Dean vibe too (which is awesome), but the piece is still very much an Edlin. Love it. The contemporary gallery field can go to hell. It is an industry run purely on fashion and intimidation. While it's mired in postmodern art, it also lacks meaning (aside from masturbatorial discussions on medium and context).
@TylerEdlin844 жыл бұрын
Eric Wayne all of that can apply to fine art with the exception of commercial art job. I see fine artists at conventions all the time getting their hustle on. I see fine artists all the time on KZbin building networks and teaching resources making well over 6 figures m.kzbin.info/door/Sl51TSNCxLQJqLTQp0B6Cg

@@c7261 Funny shit, because I readily agree. Still, I tend to make art that isn't really commercially viable, but also have no fantasy about having any presence in the contemporary art world. I'm planning some cool shit this year, tho, for whoever is interested.
