Geoff (pronounced Jeff) is a founding member of the a capella group VoicePlay. They explore a variety of genres but being from Orlando do a lot of Disney covers. All of the members have performed at the theme parks over the years. They're fully independent -- do their own arranging, video production, etc. themselves. Geoff started his solo channel during the pandemic. He plays piano and uses plug ins for the other instruments or sound effects. Have fun exploring the catalog of both and discovering why their nickname is "theater kids of a cappella."

The most fun is watching someone find Geoff or Voiceplay for the first time. Voiceplay used to tour all the time and all over the world. When Covid shut them down they put all of their energy into studio work. They do not intend to go back on the road. Geoff and Voiceplay are supported by a fiercely loyal Patreon group. Three of them are married with children and find that they like being home. Subscribed in anticipation of following your Geoff journey.

And, this isn't even a sample of how low and how high he can go. His total range in recorded music is A0-A#5. His comfortable range is more like A1-D5, which is still insane, in reality.

Thanks for the thoughtful reaction! He is my favorite solo artist and the group he performs with is my favorite choral group. (His name Geoffrey is the British spelling of the name Jeffrey.) You recognized that he does not only sing, but he sings extremely well. He’s got a rich buttery tone when he’s singing low but can drop down into a more gravelly breathy sound and up into the tenor range as well. And yes he does give quite a performance. He worked in Disney World and Universal Studios for many many years while still appearing with the group. He and the beatboxer of the group have been together since middle school when they joined the school choir. Professionally they’ve been at it since they graduated high school about 25 years. He is indeed “the guy”. Not only is he a gifted performer but he’s a dedicated family man and an all-around nice guy. Those of us who are his patrons get to see a lot of behind-the-scenes as well as web chats and I’m always impressed just how humble and down-to-earth he is. He is also pretty much a perfectionist so it’s no coincidence that he’s in this huge house all alone wandering. He, and the group VoicePlay, are truly artists. They do it all themselves and for this one his staff was his wife Kathy who is the production manager for both he and the group. The steady cam operator was his middle school friend and bandmate. Geoff edited both the audio and the video before sending the audio mix off to Ed Boyer who is the king of mixers for a cappella groups. Liked and subbed in anticipation of you following down this rabbit hole and hopefully also checking out the group he appears with.

Geoff does sing acappella, and has since high school. Since 1997 he's been singing with a group initially called 4:2:Five and now called VoicePlay. In that time he did learn some beatboxing, and when the group's first beatboxer left Geoff (who has always been in the bass role) taught their baritone, Layne Stein, how to beatbox and Layne went on to do great things with that skill. Geoff's solo work is fairly recent, as he began doing covers during the pandemic when the group was unable to tour. Since then he's developed quite a catalog of songs, as well as continuing to work with VoicePlay. Both he and Layne (and soemtimes VoicePlay's tenor, Eli Jacobson) provide the vocal arrangements for VoicePlay's songs, and there is always something unexpected and fascinating in the creative choices they make. It's fantastic because these guys are 100% independent artists, so they get to take whatever risks they want with no interference. And the quality of their work (as well as Geoff's solo work!) shows just how talented these guys are. (Fun fact: they do all the video work themselves too!)

Welcome to Geoff's rabbit hole... And hopefully Voiplay's 🙂. Geoff works a whole lot on his voice, on all his wide range, there are even videos on his channel where he explains "how to sing really low", and listening to what he says in his video one can have a glimpse of his dedication. 🙂 And yes, he improves all the time. Want a proof? Watch his "Tolkien Trilogy", chronologically ordered: "Far over the Misty Mountains cold" (The Hobbit - An unexpected journey), "I see fire" (The Hobbit - The Desolation of Smaug), and "Song of Durin (from the Lord of the Rings... The BOOK, not the movie. Sung by Gimli in the depths of Moria. Made into a real song by Clamavi de Profundis, Geoff released his cover of it a couple months ago). And remember, all the characters and voices are him. He's cosplaying the Dwarves there, and the level of that cosplay is top notch. 🙂 On his channel, he covers a wide range of genres, from old songs like "Till then" to more modern classics like "House of the Rising Sun" and "Sound of Silence", to Elvis' "Way down" to Christmas songs like "White Christmas" and "Mele Kalikimaka" (the only video in which he's not the only singer 😅), to many many more. And they're all good! 🙂 Enjoy listening to Geoff and watching his videos. And if you want to check up his a cappella stuff with Voiceplay, I'd suggest you start from their cover of Metallica's "Nothing else matters". 🙂 See you next time, subscribed in anticipation!

AWESOME reaction, Smokey Jorge!! I love witnessing folks discovering the deep magic of Geoff (pronounced, "Jeff)'s voice. The amazing range, the stunning quality in each register, and, por supuesto, that lowwwwwwwww rumble. I LIVE for that lowwwwwwww rumble! It has been said that somebody bumped God's elbow as (s)he was pouring talent into Geoff, resulting in him receiving the voices of 5 different vocalists, ha. Geoff is also the bass singer in the acapella group, "VoicePlay," whose beat boxer is Geoff's longtime friend, Layne Stein. They've known each other since high school, if memory serves. VoicePlay's cover of, "We Don't Talk about Bruno" is not to be missed, for the beat boxing, Geoff's bass plus sense of humour, and the rest of the singers are no joke, either! As far as next suggestions for Geoff's solo offerings, he just dropped an amazing cover of, "Carol of the Bells," and a couple of my faves are, "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," "Misty Mountains," "Big John," "Sixteen Tons," my list of faves goes on and on and on.... Mahalo for the sweet shout out, amigo mio, and gracias otra vez for this wonderful reaction!! Bless up, everyone!! Till the next!! (Flip forthcoming....) 💜💜💜💓💜💜💜

As for the video work, first rule of a camera on a tripod when filming: don't touch the camera. He usually shoots with three cameras set to wide, medium, and close, unless there's camera movement, where he typically uses a steady cam operator. From there the lighting is set (if there are changes they are done by computer and set to the track so the changes are always the same. This is usually done by Eli Jacobson from VoicePlay. ) Then the video editing part. Geoff's wife is usually on set with him making sure each separate "clone" stays within a predetermined area.. which makes the editing cleaner for Geoff in the end. And yes, he does the arranging, recording, producing, and editing himself. He does have (same as VoicePlay) a mix engineer who does the final audio mix. (His name is Ed Boyer.)
@GeorgeTheCloudАй бұрын
Hi Karen, thanks for all the info, even the mix engineer! All did a great job and I'm excited for this rabbit hole, stay tuned!
@Badger77722Ай бұрын
@@GeorgeTheCloud Ed Boyer is a well known audio engineer who seems to specialize in working with a cappella groups. He does almost all of the final mixes for Pentatonix, VoicePlay, Home Free, and here also does Geoff's. Ed was an engineer for The Sing-Off, which is a TV show from the early 2010s that all three of those groups competed on, and I'm sure that's where they found him.

This is the video that introduced me to Geoff (Jeff) as well 2⅐ years ago. Two weeks later I found out he was bass for the acapella group Voiceplay. Geoff uses instruments on this channel. Geoff sings multiple times. Once for each clone. If you notice each one is spaced out. He uses certain points in the background to do divide them. Over the years his voice and range has gotten so even better. Going from a D1-D5 to now B0- E5. Somes higher or lower. He and Voiceplay are not just pop. They're all genre. His latest videos from Christmas to 2 months ago.... Blue Christmas, Wicked Game, Unshaken, Don't Mess Around With Jim, Big Iron, Imagine, Song of Durin. His and Voiceplay's Christmas videos are fantastic. They'll be realeased from their to the public soon. Geoff has been married to his and Voiceplay's production manager Kathy since 2017. They have a 7 year old son William. Voiceplay... If you decide to watch any of their videos you'll get as lot of information like i gave here about Geoff but alot more in depth. They both have tons of amazing videos to choose from. Id give videos from Christina last year but the list too big. Five latest,.... The Way You Make Me Feel, Total Eclipse of The Heart, Be Prepared, Thriller, Stand By Me (shorts form but full length). Also. Geoff and Voiceplay beatboxer both have their own personal channels with cool videos on them as well. Welcome to Geoff's rabbit hole 🐰. And hopefully Voiceplay as well.

Oh, always fun....a new reactor to Geoff solo (or VoicePlay). Subscribing in hopes of more Geoff/VoicePlay. It's all wonderful! Geoff has a 5-octave recorded range but even more impressive is his 3 octaves in full chest voice. He's my favorite solo artist and VoicePlay is my favorite group. Just read each video description to see how very, very many skills the guys have learned to utilize to do most things themselves. Sometimes Geoff solo is in costume and makeup, but be assured that all of the vocals that you hear (and all of the instrumentation) are all his. Geoff and VoicePlay have a large group of dedicated fans who regularly seek out reactions to their work since they are 100% indie and we need to spread the word. If you react to them regularly, you'll notice new subscriptions....promise! In most of the outros to Geoff's videos, he speaks into his iPhone with a brief thanks...just listen to how low his speaking voice is!

Geoff is incredible. If you go into his videos, he has How to Sing Really Low. Recently has done, Imagine (John Lennon), Wicked Game (Chris Isaak), Unshaken (RDR2), Monster Mash (Bobby Pickett). VoicePlay - Nothing Else Matters (Metallica), In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins), Creep (Radiohead), Hoist the Colours (Pirates of the Caribbean), Dragonborn Comes Skyrim, Valhalla Calling (Miracle of Sound), I Can't Make You Love Me (Bonnie Raitt), Queen in 5 Minutes, Drunken Sailor (old sea shanty), Sleeping in the Cold Below (WarFrame), the apocalyptic trilogy over 3 yrs 1) Warriors (Imagine Dragons), 2) Dream On (Aerosmith) and 3) Seven Nation Army (White Stripes) will give you a good start. They have lost 2 members over 4.5 yr, Earl Elkins (a founding member from 1997) left for personal reasons, J None was a member but got recruited into the US Navy for his vocal talents (he's in for 5 yrs, most of that done, comes home to the Orlando area as he can get leave and sings with VoicePlay), new member to replace both of those guys is Cesar who can do baritone and high tenor. Eli (bald tenor) same vintage as the original group but he was singing rock bands until he joined in 2010. Geoff and Layne are the 2 original members from middle and high school before launching 4thLove, then they got a beatboxer Scott Porter and changed the name to 4:2:Five. When Scott left for an acting career, Layne wanted the beatboxing so Geoff gave him lessons and Layne has flat run with it - one of the best. So right now VoicePlay has 4 members and usually choose a guest vocal which gives them a lot of flexibility. They have no contracts, no bosses, all the arrangements, staging props, etc. Layne and Tony (former baritone before changing to productions) bought Pattycake Productions(do most of Geoff and Voiceplay videos). Tony runs it with Layne's help as needed.
