Get twenty artists together, tell them to draw the same animal, and that they have to be unique as possible. You WILL find similarities. Which is why I have to disagree on the Lycanroc and Direhowl compassion. They're both based off a wolf, and you can really only draw a wolf so many different ways before it stops looking like a wolf.

@@bradwine228 If the basis for the game is 'Pokemon with guns', it's the responsibility of the artists to make sure *none* of the designs look like or can be confused with Pokemon. There's less Pals than there were Pokemon in the first generation of Pokemon. There's no excuse other than laziness or intentionally basing some designs on Pokemon.

I bought palworld for $30 cause it was a pretty good price for a new game. I've played it since its first week of release, and its just a fun game. After the $30 price, it feels like an investment. With the updates and how the game gives you a lot to do, at times i have to remind myself its in beta. Definitely worth playing and worth the price. My real advice is that if you're reluctant to play the game mostly due to the designs of the pals, you're limiting your ability to enjoy a game you can play your way at your own pace. Give it a shot.👍

It's blue with a white under belly, like piplup." You mean like a penguin. Are you going to say that a penguin with blue feathers must be the pokemon? "Ditto with a hat" Ditto is a *blob.* You cannot just say "look, it's a blob, must be Ditto." Pokemon didn't invent slimes. For the stingray one, you gotta tell me what parts are similar that *aren't* from actual rays. The wings, tail, and antenna are all features on real rays. The color pattern is obviously to denote the elemental aspect of the creature. It passes. The deer does not have the same shape antlers. In fact, the deer pal has more deer shape antlers than Xerneas has, as its antlers are supposed to resemble tree branches. Beyond that, it's a different body shape and the fur pattern and color choices are very different. Oh my gosh, no. No, this cat is not fucking shitty Meowth. No. It is just the mouth that sets people off, and pokemon did not invent crescent smiles full of sharp teeth. No, the pal is obviously inspired by fucking Cheshire Cat. It's shit, but it's not a ripoff. Lucario and this ugly ass pal are both based off Anubis, the Egyptian god of death. He's a jackal headed deity. The similarities between these two are from the Egyptian inspiration and depictions of Anubis and the jackals that tend to flank the dead. If we're calling it a problem, they're both Anubis rip offs. You know, if this dragon pal is a rip off of Gyarados, then the dragon boss in Sword of Mana is too. I'm pretty sure these features are ubiquitous in a lot of Japanese dragons.

Most things that are called Copyright infridgment are just a normal Animals with an element added to them something which shouldn't really be copyrightable. And others are just same general shape with different color patterns and/or features, with only very few being actually actual copies. All i'm saying is that you really shouldn't copyright a concept, such as for example the thing that Eevve is which is Cat fox thingy with fluffy tail like that is a very basic concept

Eevee is a distinct design from the animals it is based on. It is still hotly debated as to what animal it actually is. Also, Gmax Eevee is nearly identical. There is no way that wasn't a direct design rip. No you can't copyright animals, but when you take animalistic features and create your own creature and someone else ends up with the exact same thing, it is not a coincidence when the firat is extremely popular. If you want to make an example like that, try not to use an actual unique design to prive your point.

I know i'm late to the party, with the exception of cremis and verdash which are the most blatant ones (eevee and cinderace respectively) i feel like noone of this designs are ripoffs, most of them are "pokemon-coded" so to say, but most of them are distinct enough to earn their own identity, it's just that diehard pokemon fans see the similarities and instantly go balistic, each of the pals have their own vibes on their own and i like their designs for various reasons, i'm not a design expert but i can't bring myself to hate any of them tbh

As a Yo-kai Watch stan, we also have issues with some of the designs. Just 3, Purin, it's recolor, and Bushi. I don't remember what Yokai Purin and it's recolor are copying but Bushi I tell you. Blushi is just Sheen and Gleam from the first Yo-kai Watch game, down to the posing and even the fire on top of the hat, that hat flame is what gives away it's a dead copy of Sheen and Gleam from Yo-kai Watch.

I also agree with you that Arsox looks nothing like Terrakion, I don't know what some people are seeing that Arsox looks like Terrakion, but I doubt it does, Arsox takes a more Ram like appearance (since that's what Rams look like in real life, just without the flames on their bodies) unlike Terrakion though. Nah, Dinossom (wow that's a bad name) is literally a pallet swapped Goodra with Lilligant's flower as a hat. It even has the same antennas! They are just pushed down because of the hat. It even has the same flower down to the upturned edges, petal count, and the number of segments in the crown. It even has the same tail curl. And antenna curl, but a liiiiiiitle extra. They recolored a goodra, made ever so slight modifications to the arms and ripped lilligants flower off with a teeny color tweak. OMG I just checked... they didn't even change the color of the flower. They just used the shiny variant.

Vox doesn't look like eevee at all, and the "gyarados copy" is a sea serpent and doesn't look like it at all. Foxsparks is just a literal fire fox, nothing to with Nikket, the monkey is just a literal monkey and the 2 hedgehogs are just colored hedgehogs

13:38 - so part of the issue is that IIRC, the Palworld team straight up said that AI was involved in making the designs, and since *AI isn’t magic*, that AI training data had to come from somewhere, and there’s some designs that are very highly suspect of Pokémon designs being used as the training data……

I feel the need to offer some clarification, Because what some of the actual artist behind the designs claim (unless someone is actually willing to provide a source otherwise) was while AI was a boardroom idea to get initial motifs, it was decided that all the test results were too poor quality to even use for brainstorming or were literally just pikachu with a glock. So while AI was an idea, they instead decided to just go back to the drawing board... Literally. EDIT: Also, The initial claim that PocketPair's CEO said they were AI was (hopefully) unintentional misinformation as some of the "Callout Post" misinterpreted the CEO talking about Buzzfeed using AI to make Fakemon as if he was saying Palworld did it too.

Personally my problem with the pal designs is that instead of coming up with a new and interesting design philosophy they just snatched Pokémon’s and thought that’d be enough. Pal world is made for an older audience than Pokémon, they have so many options to make both cool and cute designs that don’t feel like some shitty Pokémon fan design that somehow snuck itself into an actual game. There are so many things that can be done to make something cute, or cool, or scary,edgy,pretty, literally anything if they just had put more effort into fleshing out their own unique monster designs. Digimon and Pokémon have totally different designs quirks, nobodies going to mix them up, but with pal world and Pokémon, it’s a huge possibility.

I do agree that the designs look like offbrand Pokémon and the Pokémon has better design but Palworld does something that Pokémon refuses to do which is make the monsters lifelike in the way they walk around and interact with stuff, and it is not like Pokémon doesn't have the animations to use, they just refuse to use them. All we want is to build a house and grill food with our Pokémon, Palworld is just all we got since Pokémon refuses to give it to us.

Honestly from all the game play. I've seen, they don't seem much more lifelike than what we have in scarlet and Violet. Yeah, they can go to a work station, but that's just slavery. Pokémon have already shown that Pokémon have jobs in the world. Heck, sword and shield allowed you to send them on jobs. I do agree that they could do more than just battles. But slavery isn't the way to go.

@@coltonstewart8698 You are locking them in balls, storing them on PCs and forcing them in advertisement friendly cockfights, it is already slavery, which is why Palworld was able to make a parody of it in the first place. Having them help you set up a bonfire wouldn't be much worse than what trainers already do with Pokémon in the games. The thing that a lot of players like is the freedom to do things, customization and player exppression are part of the fun. If Palworld offends you then take a look at the fangame Pokémon Wilds, it is basically the same concept, lets you walk around free and build things with your Pokémon. It is the logical next step from Secret Bases from Ruby and Sapphire, something that should've never been abandonned but only incremented with each new game. Or the mods for Minecraft Cobblemon and Pixelmon which manage to keep almost all mechanics from the series as possible, including Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves.

My biggest issue with Palword designs is that a lot feel boring or lacking in anything interesting enough to them. Like yeah, Pokemon designs can be basic as hell, but they can still have their own intricacies that make them still interesting, like the knot on Flamigo's neck, which is where it stores power in order to swing at opponents, or Roaring Moon's Wings resembling Mega Salamence's. But most of the Pals just feel like they fall into one of 3 camps for me: Basic Design Concept like "Fire Fox" (never heard that one before) or "Jackal that resembles Anubis" (real original), Pokemon Bootleg (Fenglope is just Cobalion but skinny and with fluff), or Pokemon Fusions (That Cinderace x Leafeon/Grass type that I do not care for [in case you couldn't tell from my PFP])

Also I DESPISE Lovander with every fiber of my being, because it basically just takes Salazzle (a Pokemon I adore cause it's design is really cool [and not just "sex appeal"] with an awesome color scheme) and only looks at said Sex Appeal and makes their version *Bright Pink*, gave it **HAIR??** and gave them ***BOOBS???*** I don't hate Fan-Service, as long as it doesn't detract from content or designs themselves, but this angers me so much because they took such a good design and then made a worse version in order to make blatant furry bait
