Hi there, I know this is a 5 year old video now: However, I just wanted to point out that Epson provides a driver download for this scanner to make it work with Image capture. It's under the Drivers list for this scanner on the support site. I double checked to see if this was also supported as I purchased the V600 a couple weeks ago to have a dedicated scanner, and I have that set up to use Epson's software AND Apple's built in tools, and they both seem to work correctly. I'm sure you may know about the support, but it's amazing to see how many people many not know this, and not purchase the scanner, or purchase, and assume it's broken, or isn't supported on the Mac due to lack of information. Have a great day!

Do you know the difference between v600 and v39?
@macinman2 жыл бұрын
@@breaksonn the 600 can do film scanning and a lot more professional geared features, it also is larger and has it's own power supply. The 39 is usb powered and smaller. I I don't own the 39 personally, but I am going from the feedback I've seen and heard in videos from people who have it.
@kotyakarapetyan Жыл бұрын
@@breaksonn V600 is a CCD scanner (it's like having a special photo camera inside, with a lens and a CCD detector). V39 is a CIS scanner. CCD scanners have much much longer depth of focus, meaning they can scan originals that do not lie flat on the glass. The tech is significantly more expensive, which also allows them to put more high end electronics in. On the other hand, V600 also has the transparency mode, and if you don't need it, you are paying extra and getting an even bulkier device (thick lid). I would love to see side by side comparison if the two scans/software/speed for flat originals on v39 and v600.

Thank you so much for these reviews, having the artist's perspective helps enormously. If you have very large artwork (say 56cm x 76 cm) the fact that you can remove the lid on the Epson v39 must help a lot as you can just slide it around and scan the different parts. Great job with your videos, thank you so much again!

The color quality after scanning is subjective. Just like comparing SLRs (Sony, Canon, Nikon etc) which one produced better color science and its never ending debate which is the best. Similar case to Epson and canon scanners. Which scans better colors . Everyone has its own taste of color. This make the masses confused at times. Your color "green" in Epson maybe bland to your taste while others is the perfect "green" or vice versa to canon. The quality of monitor/printers can contribute to the scanning output as well. If you have a standard monitor, don't expect good colors after scanning and blame the scanner after. You have to match them. If your serious about it. a "CALIBRATED" monitor dedicated for photography (this will produced life like colors in your screen), a good scanner (epson/canon), and editing software using the color profile of the monitor (ICC color profile) to print and a good color printer (not a standard all around printer) for best result. By the end of the day its your budget, its your scanner and its your color liking what's important. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your very comfortable reviews! If scan quality and user experience are the top two priorities, and I only have reflective originals, would you go for V39, LIDE 400 or V600? I was thinking of buying V600, but it's very old (old tech?), and I don't want to have to lift and put down the heavy lid all the time. I also like that CIS scanners are USB-powered, so one cable less to manage. However, quality is really important, and if V600 gives noticeably better quality on flat reflective originals, I will go for it. Any idea? If not-would you recommend Lide 400 or V39? My application is digitization (for family archive) of old photos and documents.

thanks for replying :) i'm actually going to get either the canon 220 or the epson v39. currently i have hp deskjet office printer/scanner but it's meant for just documents and in my test scans for colored pencil drawings, the highest resolution i can get is 1200x1200 at 24-bit and i'm still not satisfied even when i save the scan as tif or raw. my main problem is not really the resolution or insufficient RAM but the color depth of 24-bit since the color depth dictates how accurate the colors are scanned. so even if i process my scans in PS, they are still initially in 24-bit and i can't for the life of me get back the lost color nuances from the drawings i worked on for hours and hours even if i change the setting to higher than 24-bit in PS. edit: also, i compared the jpeg image to the tiff one and as far as the colors go, they are identical LOL. again, this is because of the 24-bit max depth. jpegs are actually only 24-bit and the RAW or TIFF format are meant for higher than 24 but it's pointless that the hp scanner i have allows me to save as RAW or TIFF at basic color depth.

Got one for cheap from Carousell. Doesn't have the Installation CD though. When use the scan/copy functions - Can I use other program such as Paint or Adobe/Nitro PDF instead of it auto-prompts opens the Photoshop app?

What do you call it when a scanner cannot focus unless the item is 100% flat on the glas surface (3:50)? I used to scan the inside of CD jewel cases for my homepage on my old scanner with absolutely no problems focusing in the depths of the CD case. What should I look for when buying a new scanner? Or is it just blind luck / bad luck? If you know. Thank you very much in advance.
