The Jamaican cherry you showed, we call it saresa here in the Philippines. It was proven to cure diabetes, by a teenager a few years back. Cheerios!

Maybe some shade will help with the heat . A couple of fruit trees will give good shade to the vegetable garden

Beside the fruit he mentioned, some other tropical fruit trees that grow really well are cherimoya, atemoya, wax jambu, star fruit, jack fruit trees.

Did you know that California grows some of the most water intensive crops? RICE and ALMONDS. Don't feel like a bad person if you need to water your garden, millions and millions of gallons are going to big ag in California, I think a few of those going to your garden are A-OK.

Rice yes but Almonds no

@@frankmattsson4293 False. "The amount of water that California uses annually to produce almond exports would provide water for all Los Angeles homes and businesses for almost three years."

The Almond tree does not require watering to produce nuts, I live in the south of Spain and me and my family produce almonds. The climate as I understand is similar to California, we do not receive any rains for six months of the year. Our almond trees do not receive any irrigation, this is exactly why the bad practices of the California growers gives almonds a bad reputation. If you irrigate you will get a bigger harvest but at what cost?

@@frankmattsson4293 Yeah I agree, Big AG in Cali is to blame for the water problem.

John, happy thanksgiving!!! 2022. If I had that backyard , it would be thanksgiving everyday. My fig tree is loaded for the second time this year. My mother can’t understand why I’m digging up my trees and moving them with me but I know this tree is at least 8 years old and she does a good job! I also have loquats that have set and will be feeding us come March. My lichee and rambutan are only a foot tall. My bananas have babies but here in mobile, al it might get cold one night and snap my babies. Much love to growers who feed Mother Nature also.

Thanks so much both of you. Jose is a shining star to me. Regarding soaps for watering, I came across some work that was done at UC Berkeley that compared plant growth watered with the so-called gray-water safe detergents (Oasis and Ecos etc) and Indian soap nuts vs controls. Only the Indian soap nuts did not deter plant growth. For the last 6 months I've been using them here in South Orange County California for laundry and dishes, and using the gray water for the fruit trees Etc, I don't notice any difference between that and the tap water I was using before. Thanks again!

The answer to the worm in the trees is wrapping them. Looking to Japan. I don’t think that they plant a tree that doesn’t get wrapped? Especially fruit and nut they for sure get wrapped. I am going to plant a whole mess of fruit and nut trees down in Florida. You better believe I am wrapping every single one I plant!

Good tip! One way to learn how to grow food without water is to look up "dry farming" and look up the Hopi Indians farming methods without water which is to plant more seeds deeply and much father apart.

What if all gov't officials encouraged citizens to become more self reliant and grow their own food forests? America has 50,000,000 acres of grass yards so we could produce more food than we could ever eat if we converted worthless yards to food forests
