Would love to hear and explanation of how putting a nail through a papaya tree converts it to female. I just chop the top of the males and the tree branches out into 2-5 trees at the top

Just one thing that bothered me, he said that loquat is in the citrus family but it is not it's more closely related to pears, apples or quince, they are all in the pomaceae family. On the contrary citruses are in the rutaceae family.

20 years growing fruits sound divine! I've only been collecting fruit for the last few years (already over 200 species, pretty good for being in northern illinois I think, but not good enough. lol). I grew Cannabis and psilocybin mushrooms for about 20 and 15 years respectively before I started collecting fruit, and I wish I had gotten into rare fruit much earlier... I'd have never wasted my time on the intoxicating stuff. I'm so happy growing fruit now, it blows my mind! This guy's yard is amazing, and fills me with envy! One day I'll be able to put my trops/subtrops in the ground somewhere... one day...

At 20:50 you he said he put a nail in the male papaya tree. Why is it a good idea to convert a male to female and where exactly did he put the nail in the tree? Very interesting collection.

What does he feed coconut trees???? THAT would be so helpful to know.
@LeChristEstRoi
@LeChristEstRoi Жыл бұрын
I don't know what he feeds his coconut trees, but what I know is that sea salt (1 to 2 kg/year per tree) stimulates coconut trees growth and nuts production, and makes them healthier and disease resistant. But you need to be careful when using salt in your yard! Most other plants don't tolerate salty soil! On my property I grow coconut tree on the bank of a seasonal creek, so any excess of salt will eventually return to the sea and won't accumulate in the soil and affect other plants!

There are many types of fertilizer, most are for tropical fruit trees. I also add salt about every 3 months. Any type even Epson salt.? Dm
@LeChristEstRoi
@LeChristEstRoi Жыл бұрын
@@theplanthealer Epsom salt is magnesium (magnesium sulfate), and is a totally different compound than sea salt (sodium chloride) Epsom salt can be used on all fruit trees. Sea salt should be used only for coconut trees.

Enjoyed his yard. Thanks for the video. By the way, you don't 'convert' a male papaya into a female. The males bear fruit automatically. They do carry further away from the trunk like where the flowers form.
@chaselex
@chaselex Жыл бұрын
Males do not bear fruit. It would have to be a hermaphrodite with both female and male flowers on the same tree. Or just a female tree that gets cross pollinated. Correct me if I misunderstood your comment
@rajbeekie7124
@rajbeekie7124 Жыл бұрын
These yards are great conversation pieces. However, these tees are planted way too close to each other. Many looked stressed out to me. To be productive, fruit plants need good soil, water, light and space. If not given enough space they will grow tall to compete for light. Many times papaya trees are bisexual. Sometimes, it is only female or male. Over time the bisexual may shift from male to female. Cutting off the top forces it to grow side shoots. The new shoots can change the expression to female. He will have to find a new home for the coconut trees. They need 15-20 feet minimum to do well. The branches will shade out trees below and they will not produce fruit.
