Artist Vs Poet started in the living room of my apartment. Tarcy was my best friend and I was his manager for his former band Enter The Collector, when they broke up he moved in with me to figure out his next move. When Craig messaged him I was like “dude yes this is perfect; I love Craig.” Lot of crazy stuff leading to the actual launch of the band that’s not on here, but love the tribute to the band and Tarcy. RIP.

RIP Tarcy. Talked to him online several times (along with Jason, who I still talk to on occasion). Great guys. I was bummed out when the second formation dissolved. I know Tarcy had plans to release some music as a solo act. What a great artist and singer.

Wow RIP Tarcy - I had no idea! Couple other points worth mentioning… - The song “Exit the Quitters” off the first EP is about the demise of Enter the Collector, hence the play on words with the song title. - Joe Kirkland had an acoustic side project, The Follow Through, from the 2008 era. The song So High was pretty viral on KZbin. - Dylan Stevens was recruited from another Texas pop punk band, A Bird A Sparrow

Man, I miss the fuck out of this band. I didn’t even find them until AFTER Joe Kirkland took over vocals. But man I loved them. Huge fan of the covers AVP 2.0 dropped, I love Joe’s voice

I'll never forget going to my first Warped Tour at the Toronto Flats and seeing Artist vs Poet and somehow getting Joe Kirkland to let me and some friends come sit outside their bus while he played a couple The Follow Through songs for us. Man, it gave me so much respect for these guys and really got to see at a young age how cool these dudes who seemed like rockstars to me could be and it was one of the main reasons I started my first band and have ever since loved this kind of music. Great video as always dude!

My heart broke when I found out Tarcy had passed, still loved AVP when Joe took over, kinda sad I found out through FTSK posting it while Joe didn’t seem to even acknowledge what happened..

Worked at chilis shortly with Joe Kirkland. He was a good dude and was great seeing him go get signed and be on the Voice.

AVP was such a jam and still is. Runaway, Lisa Marie and even their second album, I loved Alive and Miserably loving you. Those spoke to me so much during high school.

I was introduced to this band through their cover of Bad Romance on Punk Goes Pop vol. 3, which was one of my favs off that album (love the pop punk spin on the campiness of Lady Gaga). I also heard their song Christmas With You on the Tis the Season to be Fearless holiday compilation. 30:26 Funny that you brought up the John Mayer comparison, since one of the members actually does bring him up as one of their musical influences in an interview with PCM from Warped Tour 2010. Interesting to hear the story of this band explored in detail. Rest in peace, Tarcy.

Haven't thought of them in years and yet the minute I saw the title, I instantly remembered being in middle school, painstakingly cutting out Alt Press' short profile on AVP, and scotch taping it to my bedroom wall so I could prove I loved them before all my other friends. Thanks for the nostalgia hit ❤

Appreciate you highlighting a great band from a great era of music. You initially threw me with your take on Favorite Fix. That album was one of my favorites I'd spin from start to finish. I appreciated the diversity in sound. It was right around the time I started college when all these bands just broke my heart. Members of AVP and Forever the Sickest Kids left, All Time Low left or got dropped from their "major" label, and The Maine totally changed their sound. When Joe continued AVP as a more acoustic-oriented project, I didn't believe that sound was the goal. Fearless dropped them and so they had to record independently. It just seemed like it was a practical measure to keep putting out music until another label signed them and they could record in a professional studio again. I still loved the AVP 2.0 and saw it as potential for what they could be. Prior to the demise of these bands, I had the delusion that pop punk was going to be the next major top 40 sound, dethroning hip hop. Sadly that never came to be. And we're all here now in our late 20's and 30's reminiscing on once was. New music never quite hit the same for me again.

Definitely agree with the "trusting Fearless Records" bit. The whole reason I bought so many damn Punk Goes albums was because they came with a Fearless compilation disc. I discovered a ton of smaller bands from those samplers.

Yooooo! I got turned onto AvP when i was working at Journeys back in the day! Ended up getting passes to the Journeys Back to School Tour date in Jacksonville, FL. It was AvP, Go Radio, Breathe Carolina, and Mayday Parade. Shit was so lit, but Breathe Carolina had some technical difficulties with their equipment and played such a short set.

Joe and Jason went on to become songwriters under "Whiskey Water." I loved both first and second formations. Then Joe went on to make a new songwriting company. He had a project called The Follow Through pre AVP. God, I miss this band soooo much.

I remember first founding out about them from a Spotify suggestion to me a few years ago and I loved what I heard of theirs, but I had no idea they were from DFW like I have been living in (less than a decade, though)! Sad to hear of that vocalist passing that I also didn’t know about.

This was very informative and pretty cool to watch and listen to. But i was also there in highschool when they were getting "big" but they sounded like copies of everyone else and my friends and I weren't into them. Like you said they were more like openers unfortunately. The thought about their last album not taking them off was probably spot on. Not having a solid sounds is unfortunate.

Loved this video, I was a fan of AVP during that firstish EP. They have a similar career to the band The Graduate I feel. Their first EP the Horror Show EP was as cohesive as it gets, and then they just couldn’t really capture it again with their 2 albums. You can’t even stream that EP unfortunately, it is on YT tho thankfully
