Very much with you on lots of those, I have never enjoyed (other than the odd song) music from Elton John, Wings, Oasis, Coldplay etc, BUT the music of Nick Drake is a beautiful listen in my opinion. Also Queen make my girlfriend happy, so thats good with me because she doesn't really do music. Her favourite song is Bohemian Rhapsody (yeah, I know), I once won a voucher for itunes and I got Best of Queen with her in mind and I downloaded it in hi-res and played it to her on my Sony XM4 headphones and she heard it as she had never heard it before, and it made her cry with happiness, so Brian and his funny guitar are good for me (now and then).. Good video Chris, I am still fairly new to your channel, but I like and respect your music knowledge and your humble way of putting it across..

Olah Chris. I agree with you completely about Coldplay. I have no idea what people find appealing about them. I have two or three CDs I have played once and didn't hear anything of remark on any of them. I notice one of your other commenters mentioned Genesis. I agree wholeheartedly. With the exception of a very few tracks I find their music tediously uninteresting, especially their early albums. Ditto with Radiohead. I bought OK Computer on the basis of positive reviews and was totally underwhelmed. Appreciation of music is such a personal thing, often just based on a particular time or a feeling, that something can make you go 'wow!' the first time you hear it. That's part of what makes it endlessly fascinating. You like what you like. It isn't a competition.

Good rundown Chris. These things are massively subjective...I think without Mull of Kintyre I quite possibly wouldn't be here today.🤣 To be honest I've never been much of a Who fan - certain songs I like but in general I find most of their stuff too bombastic, and a lot of it sounds like 'marching off to war' music, which puts me off. Oddly enough though I really like what I've heard of Pete Townsend's solo stuff, so maybe it's Daltrey I mainly don't get on with. And even though I enjoy Moon's energy and gumption, after a while I start to notice that he's just playing the same stuff all the time, through every song. Happy new year.

Last one i tried was Aqualung and i didn't like it. I just don't like their songs. One you didn't mention ELO. It’s weird isn’t it how sometimes you don’t get a band that are obviously doing something right. I sort of get it with things like scream metal. It just seems a bridge to far from traditional metal which I get. I’m sort of the same with wings and queen. When first saw Queen on whistle test thought amazing and still like early albums but night at the opera was last Queen album I bought. Sometimes with wings an odd track will make me think wow! But other times glad that a cd lets you skip. Elton however is different for me. The early albums are a mix of orchestra, country, folky . Although glam rock changed him I still feel yellow brick road and captain fantastic are incredible bodies of work. The massive success of Coldplay really is one the great mysteries of the music world. Foofighters, sure they suck but I bet their concerts are fun. Elton, I guess Beatles types really dig his songs. Hair metal, was fun at 16 years old. Wings again I suppose it's a Beatles thing. Jethro Tull good for a listen every few years. Queen, fans dig that bombadtic theatre. I mean Meatloaf sold about a thousand million LPs but Coldplay? I cannot see one single redeeming feature to that droning, wet lettuce unimposing FM radio rock. Is it even rock? What actually is it? We should blame post War (album) U2 for somewhat ushering in that middle of the road nonesense.

I have a problem with music I can't understand - not technically, but that I can't understand the point of. I fail to see the point of heavy metal, it just always sound so dead and perfunctory. Prog I should like, given jazz is my home music, but I seem to be allergic to it - it's full of songs that go on forever and never go anywhere. And the worst one for that, because every strand of my telecaster playing DNA says I should love him, but Danny Gatton's stuff just leaves me cold. People are always trying to convert me. Apropos Nick Drake - listen to his records but don't listen to his singing. The records are worth it just for his imaginative and clever guitar laying. Block his words out ( I never or hardly ever, listen to words anyway so maybe that helps) and dig the guitar. another plus is the records are pretty short, so it's over quickly if you still don't like it!

Artists I just don't get or connect with include, Led Zeppelin (most overated band of all time, imo) Yes, Bob Dylan, Radiohead, The Rolling Stones and Black Sabbath, however, I think they had done some good songs in the 70's but I just can't listen to Ozzy Osbourne !!

Interestingly whilst I like LZ, I do understand why people might think that they are hugely overrated.

Hi CHris, totally agree with you re Coldplay (totally bland) and especially Oasis (like you not a fan of the whole Britpop scene either). Elton John and Queen - it's down to the period - I like Elton John's albums up to the initial split with Bernie Taupin, but post that no thanks - similarly with Queen it's those 70s albums up to Jazz and Live Killers that I like and after that not so much. It's a similar thing with McCartney and Wings - Mull of Kintyre was my jumping off point (though did like it's B side). Though I think if I had access to all his albums post that I could probably make up a decent compilation. I'm with you on hair metal (though I'm not really a metal head as such). Really liked Whitesnake in it's early days but couldn't stand them when they went down the hair metal route. Never could get into bands like Foreigner, Journey, Van Halen - just don't do anything for me. A guy I have a lot of respect for is Todd Rundgren, but (apart from the first two Utopia albums) I just can't get into his music, and I have tried a number of times. But at last I've found someone who can't get on with Nick Drake. Now this is an artist who given my love of folk and singer-songwriters from that period I should love but I just don't. I won't mention the horrors of The Sex Pistols and The Smiths.... oops I just did 🤣

I know it’s all very subjective and highly personal but Nick Drake is awful. So many love him. Do they say it because they think they should like him? Cheers Pete

As a folk fan Pete how can you hate Mull of Kintyre? A genuine modern acoustic folk song with a glorious melody and heart-rending bagpipes, plus a big rousing finale around a bonfire on the beach. And McCartney wears wellies in the video, what's not to love?🤣
@soundsfromthewestcoast993912 сағат бұрын
@jamesgriffithsmusic It's so MOR and cheesy James - just one step up from The Frog Chorus and Grandad 🤣!

Heart stopping bagpipes. Don’t get me started on folk either.

Oasis - quite derivative? That's the understatement of the year! I agree with you on nearly all of the artists and bands you mention. Foo Fighters are so generic Indie / grunge. Queen - too much pomp and theatrics for me. Van Morrison. I've seen him live twice and was bored to death. However I do like the Who, especially in the 60s and I do like Nick Drake. This video should get some heated responses I think!

The who are just too bombastic and shouty. Keith Moon is dreadful. Just overplaying and noisy. I find Cohen more uplifting than Drake. Cheers John

@jamesgreig4805 we all hear things differently. Don’t mind some early queen. Until the solos
@jamesgriffithsmusic22 сағат бұрын
There is at least one guitar solo that May didn't use his Red Special on, Crazy Little Thing. He used a Telecaster on that!

@@TheVinylOrchardtotally agree we hear things differently that's the beauty of music if we all agreed it would be boring 😊

@jamesgriffithsmusic I’ve really tried with this band and some early stuff I don’t mind. But the guitar and multi tracked vocal thing just finish me off.

Hi Chris . Fun video I remembered that you don’t like the flute so no surprise you’re no lover of Tull , John & Morrison don’t do it for me .. I can’t stand led zeppelin..that’s a minority view on KZbin 😀. Have a great 2025 👍

Enjoyed your video Chris. I suppose the band/artist that I don't get/don't like is Led Zeppelin! Even though I like Paul McCartney to a degree, some of the stuff he's released is downright terrible, obviously the song you mentioned with the Frog Chorus but surely the one song of his that grates with me is 'C Moon'. I thought this was funny, watch towards the end for it. Cheers! : kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYmsfYCkbMuebck
