Well, he has to strip down before people can actually *tell* that he's a big purple monster. A big part of his story is his tragic dating life. When it's time to get down in the bedroom, he has to say "hey, before we do this, I gotta tell you that I'm a little bit different..." And once he's naked, they freak out and run screaming because they were about to make love to a big purple monster. But then he meets someone who is totally into it - super hot for that fluffy purple goodness. But that ends up being just as bad because he's just their fetish. They don't really see *him*. Grimace isn't just a piece of meat, he really wants true love. He needs somebody who accepts him and loves him for who he is. There's also an alternate universe version in McDonaldland 2, where he's married with kids -- totally "Leave it to Beaver" domestic bliss. But it's a running gag because he doesn't really catch on that his kids are normal humans and aren't even a little bit purple. Every once in a while he starts wondering where they got their curly red hair, but then something wacky happens to distract him before he puts two and two together.

I actually got an ad once that was like, a McDonald's commercial but anime, and NO JOKE even with as short as it was, I actually kinda felt invested in the characters. Like, it was about this girl who got a job working at McDonald's, and she wanted to be the best at her job, and she worked tirelessly, working through all parts of the job, all the while her best friend is cheering her on. I think it ends with her becoming the manager or something, but not gonna lie, I was not expecting it, but it was welcomed.
