Both the girls were sick. They were making paper cranes together to wish recovery for each other. However the pink girl cud make the thousandth one first and wished recovery for her sister however lost her life. At the end we can see the two cranes together pink and blue which cud also hint that the 2nd sister also died some time later and they are together symbolized by the two cranes together. This is my sense of the story. Heart touching story!!

To clarify in case somebody dosnt fully understand: In Asian culture, it is believed that if you fold a thousand paper cranes, you will be granted a wish. This was made popular after a little girl tried to do this to get better after receiving Leukemia after the bombing of Hiroshima. There is an exhibit in the Hiroshima museum dedicated to the little girl, children, and world peace. It is filled with origami cranes.

This Story was inspired by Sadako Sasaki, a Japanese Girl who was born in Hiroshima in 1943. At the age of 2, she had gotten leukaemia; a sort of blood cancer, from radiation from a radioactive bomb sent by the U.S. she had to drop out from school because it had gotten severe. Then, she heard of a myth that if you make 1000 origami cranes, you can make any wish you want. So she kept on making cranes but unfortunately, she died at the age of 12 due to her sickness of leukemia. She only made around 644 cranes. Her friends and family continued making cranes until there were 1000. There is now a memorial statue of her in Hiroshima Memorial Peace Park.

This is based on a true story. In japan in ww2, there was a bombing witch let out a disease called Leukemia. A toddler named Sadako caught the disease but it didn’t affect her when she was that young. When she was 11-12 the leukemia really started to affect her. She learned that if you make 1000 origami paper cranes, you can make a wish. So when she was sick in the hospital she started making the paper cranes. Sadly, she was only able to make it to 644 paper cranes before passing away.

This was actually based on true story it's Japanese story that if you make a thousand origamis it's gonna recover you from a fatal disease. At those times I think it was World War II and a girl fell sick from the age 2 in Japan. She started making a thousand origamis and some years later she stopped wishing to recover and made the origamis based on a wish for peace from the war as all she wanted was peace for everyone and didn't like to see people fighting each other. However, she died at the age of 12 before completing the thousand origamis. Her friends and relatives completed making them till they reached a number of thousand and spread the news. Now in Japan, there is a statue of this girl and a fire made that is still burning to this day. People believe that the fire will not stop burning until peace occurs on Earth and war is stopped. Edit: mom look I'M FAMOUS 😱 Edit 2: guys this might not be accurate as 1. I had this as a comprehension in my English exam three years ago so I don't remember everything and 2. Every history book or textbook or whatever else you read this story from will not tell you the exact same thing as they are all probably different authors. This is based on a true story: In Japan, there was a girl named Sadako Sasaki, and when she was just a baby, some part of her brain or something was affected because of the atom bomb. So when she got older, she gets sick and eventually had to drop out of school. There was a myth that if you fold a thousand origami cranes, any wish you choose will come true. So when Sadako was in the hospital she attempted to do so. She kept on folding and folding. At one point, she got better for a week and her family gave her a silk dress, which is very expensive and hard to get, but Sadako didn't question it. After that week, she got sick once again, and continued folding her cranes each time whispering "I wish to get better." At the age of 12, Sadako died and she was only able to make 600+ cranes. Her friends and family finished these cranes for her. Today there is a memorial for her somewhere in Japan. The memorial is a statue of her holding a giant crane and under it, are thousands of cranes made by visitors. People come from all over the world just to leave a few cranes underneath her statue. I'm not entirely sure if this is the story. I don't remember when I heard it or who told it to me. Please correct me if any of this information isn't correct.

There's probably some other comment that already clarified this but I'll try to go into more detail. There was a story about a girl in Hiroshima. It was when America dropped their atomic bombs onto Hiroshima and Nagasaki to test it out. Thousands of people died, and others got sick from the radiation. Sadako was affected by the radiation when she was 2, when she was 12, she got Leukemia, it was said by doctors she would only have 1 year left to live. She believed in a myth where if you fold 1000 cranes, you'll be granted 1 wish (i can confirm it's a real myth as my brother's school did this for his principle). She started folding the cranes. As days go by, she stayed in her room, folding these cranes nonstop in hopes of being able to get her wish. But she sadly passed away, even though she folded 1000 cranes. After that, a statue was built as tribute to her, with it showing a girl holding a folded crane with the words engraved underneath "Our wanting is to have peace on this world" roughly translated. I read about it when I was in 3rd or 4th grade.

Both sister's were making 1000 cranes to recover from some kinda disease or to wish something they wanted to... Thus the pink sister made her 1000th crane first so she wished for her and her sis could stay together forever and wished for her sis to stay well...The blue sis made 999 till now...Suddenly the blue sis wake up in middle of night and saw her grandmother taking her sis to a room...She understood that her sis was about to die , she took an origami paper besides her to make her 1000th crane and wish for her sis to stay alive...But on the last step of making crane she accidentally tore the paper crane...And till it was too late...Then we see a pink and blue crane together which symbolizes that the blue sister died too and they were both happy in heaven...Very heart touching story!!!But well this was my sight of the story...Thank u...

Wow such a powerful and sad story. How beautifully put together and the animation is so cute and well done. You could feel the grandmother's pain and the sisters too as their crying seemed so real. Then I started crying as it really did seem real. You then think of the loved ones you have lost along the way prior to this short film. Well done to all the students who were involved with the project, you are all multi talented. God bless and stay safe and healthy and always happy.

They doesnt like it because the girls dies. Oldest first, younger later. The wish to be "always together' damned to lost their battle to the illness. Its obvious the youngest pass away too, if you fund just an empty house. The " confort' is they will be together in that better place. A bond beyond death. Its so sad... Its a tender, sweet story, but sadly doesn't got a happy ending. I cant click "like' button for that. And either " unlike', because is a wonderful animation work. Love every detail.

Every single person on the planet has a story. Don’t judge people before you truly know them. The truth might surprise you. Nothing can stop death. All we can do is seeing the reality and being prepared for it. It is sad to depart from loved ones and being together with unpleasant ones. This life is filled with sadness. People are unable to see it because their vision is covered. Because of that people tend to see happiness in things that are not certain and which is always changing. They seek pleasure in these and eventually become sad when the opposite of what they think happens. Please see everything as nothing of your own. See the reality and accept it. Please study Buddhism. You will find answers for everything.

Something people haven't realized is the girl in blue was sick first, which is why the girl in pink was more energetic at the start But then at 3:39, she started coughing, just look at the reactions of the sister and the grandma, its not of worry, its of shock, they were clearly not expecting her to get sick and it explains why she was so upset when she realized her sister gave up her wish for her.

I think that the story is about the 2 girls living with their grandma and making 1 thousands paper cranes so they can wish for something, but soon the two got sick, the one that wore pink got even more sick, and when they were almost done with 1 thousand paper cranes, the girl that wore blue tried to make 1 more to wish for the the that wore pink to get better, the paper ripped from all the pressure, stress, and time that was going on in her head, but the girl that wore pink already had made a thousand, with a note that describes for the wish she granted was that she wished to not for her sister to worry and remember that she was always going to be on her side, as in she knew she wasn’t going to make it in time for her sister to save her

Yet she still dies but the courage and bravery of her faith to live is what makes me so inspired and admire her. Sadder than Grave of Fireflies. Her name is Sadako. She is now a mark for World Peace.
