Fun fact: Faber-Castell's origine is in Nuremberg (Southern Germany), where their first pencil factory is, which is a public pencil museum today. Close to that factory is the Castell castle. Staedtler and Stabilo Schwan (I don't know how famous Stabilo is outside of Germany) have their origine as well in the area around Nuremberg. As an art student who comes from that region, it's just brilliant. :3 Because of factory outlats, possibilities for internships, I even got invited for testing products bevor they got sold on the open market and have I mentioned yet, that Faber-Castell has it's own art academy in the old factory above the pencil museum, where I did a pre university art course? It is indeed a beautiful city to grow up as an art interested child.

I decided to price out the second box just out of curiosity and without even looking for the best prices it only came out to $42.25. Subscription boxes are meant to give you a high value of items for a smaller price and this just is not it. Now granted, maybe the remaining $7.75 would go toward shipping, but if I were buying this all separately I would either be using Amazon Prime, which has no shipping, or I'd be buying it directly from the store, in which case there would be no shipping there either. I'd also be able to get the best prices I could find and in-store I'd most likely be able to use coupons.
@sarahfisher68015 жыл бұрын
The 3rd box actually only came out to $34.98. :/ I'm staying away from this subscription box.
@annadesorcy14295 жыл бұрын
But add shipping. Depending on where it's from and where you live, it could add up to the rest.
@sarahfisher68015 жыл бұрын
@@annadesorcy1429 The only problem with that, is that boxes are supposed to be products to try for cheaper than it would be to buy them yourself. Most boxes that I've seen guarantee that you will receive something like $150-$250 worth of items for the $50 because they get them at much lower prices than cost and sometimes the items are even given to them at no cost to distribute by the companies because it allows people to not only hear about their brand and products but also test them out for future consideration of purchases. That is my problem with it anyway. They make a hefty profit off of each box and the customers aren't actually getting a deal on the items. That defeats the purpose of the monthly box subscription in my opinion.
@ljn3695 жыл бұрын
@@sarahfisher6801 Maybe it's just because I think differently but, I don't think value is why you buy an art surprise box. Thats just her being her, she missed likely other stuff too. I kinda dig her, but sometimes I wish she was just a hair smarter. Like when people asked her to try out “copics from wish”.. she bought real (and very pricey, imported and exported many times) Copics from wish, and what people wanted to see: the low cost alcohol markers like Ohuhu and Touch 5. It wasnt satisfying for anyone, but she cant change that. Shes also still a baby as an artist, sometimes her lack of experience and knowledge shows (you can do oil painting in one sitting, ask Bob Ross). I like her, but I watch her videos purely for entertainment, never for education or opinion. And shes one of the better ones out of these young YT-artists, theres few who are just good at drawing or painting, but otherwise thoroughly clueless... influencing future artists. (I dont know why I sound so mean and judging, I really dont mean to. Lost in translation, I guess..)

Is it really that big of a deal that she misidentified one single art product that I'm probably never going to buy anyway? Since you say that Chloe "put herself out there" to be criticized, so did you. (And usernames aren't pseudonyms. They're usernames.) As someone who's been using Function of Beauty for a year now: SO worth it! Seriously, get your hands on that stuff. A little goes a long way and it does WONDERS! Doesn't strip colour out, either! And you can literally choose what you want from your shampoo and conditioner. They also got masks, oil, leave-in and all that stuffy now! Yes, it is a bit pricy, but the smallest bottles last me for a good 4 months or longer (I do have short hair, tho). Can really recommend it! Also, the scents are fairly strong so going with mild is better lol I had peach, eucalyptus and milkshake before. Peach is my favourite! AND the colour of the shampoo/conditioner isn't hairdye! It is just to look pretty. Doesn't dye or stain your hair, unless you chose recude brassiness, then the shampoo is purple shampoo to cancel out yellow tones!

So have decided that its best just to watch others on youtube get them and do art with them. That way I get to feel the surprise of seeing what you get without the cost of the box and having the supplies go to waste if its not something I'd want to use.

I agree with oil paints. I used them once to do a couple of paintings. I liked the effect that I got, they seemed to mix well. I did a painting of the planet Jupiter once in acrylics and I thought that it would be easier to replicate in oils, BUT! The length of time it took to dry was a big put off for me. I don't have the space to leave them out to dry so oils are quite impractical for me. It is a shame, though because aside from that issue, I enjoyed working with them. Acrylics are my favourite paints, and I am trying to improve my watercolours and get into gouache, as I've not done much in that.

The Faber Castell Pitt pens are India ink, not alcohol. They don’t blend and they’re good for lettering, but streaky for areas of colour. Some of those brands are pretty cheap especially Royal and Langernickel. I’m not sure these are worth $50. Had a minor choke at the price of the shampoo too, sheesh. They don’t say if they’re lightweight, it’s gotta get in deep, but then get out. £3.50 at the supermarket still tbh. never mind a paper cut :p I was so worried you were going to stab yourself with the blade when you were cutting towards yourself Smart Art boxes seem to be hit or miss but the new designed boxes look pretty good

Hi Chloe! Awesome video! I love seeing you what you do with these subscription boxes. Will you be getting anymore of the flasks in your shop? They're so adorable, but out of stock and I didn't see a price on them. Hopefully, I can get your book after the holidays. I hope it won't be sold out.

These look like so much fun! I'd LOVE to be able to afford these art subscription boxes. Thank you for sharing.

I'm so late seeing this but just had to say that I agree I prefer acrylic paint however oil paint does have its place. If you use the wet on wet technique (Bob Ross) you'll finish the painting in one setting so no need to worry about waiting to finish!

I really think the last "board" was a 10 sheet oil paper bloc.

haha loving the way you try to speak dutch with van gogh haha. Hanemüle has the best bullet journals ander their paper is awesome maybe the bord too? Have you tried it already? Loving the last two boxes :)

I think these might be good for artists starting out. I liked the acrylic box & the stained glass boxes best!! Of course I'm not an artist so I'm not sure about the value or price point. I think they'd make great gifts if you have artists in the family. Also, Royal & Lang Nickel also make makeup brushes, very good quality company!!

That’s a lot of months to save up your boxes. I would’ve savaged them long ago, lol.

I agree with these review scores, except maybe a slight adjustment based on my preferred media over yours (e.g. I like pencils). The last two definitely got deservedly high scores. Starter oil paints are a huge deal.

Fyi: "Relief is a sculptural technique where the sculpted elements remain attached to a solid background of the same material. The term relief is from the Latin verb relevo, to raise." Source: Wikipedia (it's also pronounced relieff, with an e that sounds like the one you get in the letter "f")

Any chance you’re going to do enamel pins of Arthur in the future? Just a thought 😉 Especially the ghost & the Ring, Coat, You could just draw him cause he’s cute that’s four right there how many do you need slap some bunny ears on him for Easter awww!!!! You gotta draw that anyway cause too cute! I think enamel pins of Arthur would sell.

That a lot of boxe to open at the same time, but really intersting since like you said you can experience more than one boxe at the time and really developpe a idea of the kind of subscription boxe it is
