So since a few people asked what I thought was wrong with emojis and how kids draw smiley face's I thought I'd describe it a little better here haha - These things are marketed at small kids ie 6+, and these aren't just smiley faces these are actually marketed as "an emoji" not a "smiley face" meaning the kid would have to know what an emoji is. I'm pretty old fashioned and grew up without phones or ipads, and I plan to do the same for my kids (unless they're watching something or playing a kid appropriate game). I don't know, everyone is different but I just think it's a bit silly that a 6 year old would be marketed an emoji product made for phones and ipads haha

I have a Klutz one that was for decorating bobby pins with seed beads and wire. They were pretty, but I got tired of making them after a few. My friend had one of their fingernail painting sets where it showed how to paint different designs. I remember how hard it was for me to do those same designs using the toothpicks, yet she made it look effortless! I did enjoy another one that I got that was making hemp jewelry.

Kids have smaller hands so some of the tasks might actually be easier for children. Like putting together the unicorn horn. Also this is part of why child labor was so popular is they were small and could fit into small places and their small hands were better at more detailed work... And could pay them less.

My mom used to make me surprise balls when I was a kid (38 now). I've never met anyone else that's ever heard of them! Mom never used a plastic container in the middle, she would start with the 'big' item, like a $20 bill folded super teeny for the middle. Wrap, wrap, wrap some crape paper, add another surprise. Could be an earring, charm, sticker, anything tiny. Add the item and wrap for a while till it's secured, then add another surprise. One of my favorite memories from childhood!

It is a thing (a party favour) in some parts of US, but I’m not sure that they are called ‘surprise balls’.
@radlee9743 жыл бұрын
I too am in US. Aside from those “5 Surprise! Mini Brands Surprise Balls”, (Which, I believe, are a fairly recent toy, having come out within the past 2-3 years or so.) I too haven’t heard of them or seen any others. (There are *LOTS* of other “surprise” toys out there though. Which I would’ve *loved* as a kid, as there weren’t _nearly_ as many different ones on the market back then!)
@RawringTaters3 жыл бұрын
All the mystery and surprise balls or whatever are new ways to make kids parents waste money. Otherwise With out wrap and the surprise aspect they are just gacha/coin machine prizes.
@riverAmazonNZ3 жыл бұрын
@@RawringTaters absolutely. The toys only hold their attention for the time it takes to unwrap them, and if the kid is trying to collect a set “blind bag” style, frequently leads to disappointment and a need to buy more, just like gambling. That being said, a lot of the toys now say surprise on the box, but there is no mystery what’s inside, the “surprise” is just more packaging, so there’s more unwrapping to do, each little bit gets its own wrapper. It creates a lot of plastic junk! Way too much packaging on a toy that’s basically tat anyway.

Klutz makes the best kits. They almost always come with a really detailed instruction book, and they always give you enough stuff to make multiple things. They were my favorites as a kid in the 90s, to the point that just seeing one is like full sensory nostalgia. I can even smell the book paper (yes, I smelled books as a kid, still do if im honest). I have no clue what those people were thinking with the name surprise balls. If I was a kid I would think it was hilarious and my mom would refuse to buy it because I was being "vulgar". Basically you get a BUNCH of little prizes, wrap the crepe paper around the biggest one, then as you wrap, add more prizes. It's much more fun to unwrap because you never know when another toy will come out.
