We have an amazon "store" in our mall and its basically just a bunch of bins filled with stuff that was backshipped, returned, not delivered, or broken. The highest something goes for is 7$ and those are on Thursdays and saturdays. Wednesdays are 6$. Tuesdays are 4$ and so are Sundays. and Mondays are 2$. It's kinda cool but it's always packed with people on the lower money days- you risk your life every time you reach into one of those wire bins 😅

I have mixed feelings about the existence of all this "Bob Ross" themed stuff out there, some of which is in direct conflict with Mr. Ross' stated goals as he laid out in his show. "We don't use any stencils or paint-by-numbers in our technique,..." This feels like an appropriation of his name, likeness and quotes in order to market something which I doubt he himself would endorse. Also, I think these side-products make it tough to recognize the real kits with brushes and paints like he used on the show. That said, I'm glad you tried it out here. I was curious about how it worked.

I feel like Bob Ross would have a super wholesome response to the watercolour book. Something like: 'If you are not comfortable with oil paints, or a big canvas, it is totally okay to use my watercolour book. I want everyone to be comfortable and happy when they make art.'
@nowandaround3123 жыл бұрын
I doubt it. His show was called "The Joy of Painting" not "The Joy of Making Art" and his entire ethos was that anyone can learn to paint without assistive devices. You should just go for it, make mistakes and turn them into happy little accidents and just enjoy the act of putting paint on the canvas. Bob Ross has become a caricature and now people believe that he was this saccharine character who showed nothing but love and kindness to everyone and everything at all times and never displayed any emotion except happiness and acceptance. He had many wonderful traits, but he was human like everyone else.
@nowandaround3123 жыл бұрын
Btw I don't think there's anything wrong with "paint with water" books, if someone isn't comfortable or able to use real paint and a canvas then those books can be a great way for them to participate, although I don't think they should have used Bob Ross' artwork for it. My point was just that Bob Ross likely wouldn't have reacted to it in the way that you and the other people who liked your comment believe he would have

Honestly it's evil. Amazon swoops in, puts all these stores out of business, then sets up literal shop where those stores once were. Love u though, Chloe!
@bubble_tea4_life4863 жыл бұрын
It’s a capitalist system, it’s not exactly evil, it’s how businesses grow. Yes it’s sad for smaller store owners who go out of business and that is understandable! But it’s how capitalism works, people have the chance to make their own business and grow it. Amazon thrived and has grown and others haven’t. I wouldn’t call it evil, it’s a natural part of the system
@cleverhandle4203 жыл бұрын

@@cleverhandle420 what do you propose is the solution?
@cleverhandle4203 жыл бұрын
don’t talk to me like that, if you don’t like what I have to say just say you disagree. I’m tired of the “if not capitalism, then what?” argument. It’s old and it shows people aren’t willing to admit things aren’t working but they don’t know how to change anything bc they believe capitalism is the answer even though they know nothing about capitalism, how it works, and how it’s been applied in various governments. Firstly, Amazon isn’t benefiting off pure capitalism. It’s gotten where it is solely by anti-competitive practices. That’s not my opinion, that’s the conclusion of the economists who study Amazon. And it was able to get there thanks to “pro-capitalist” conservatives and rich lobbyist chipping away at the pro-capitalist, anti-competitive laws for decades to decrease competition and pad their own pockets. Again, not my personal opinion. Just known facts. Another known fact is that America isn’t a true capitalistic society. More so than most but I imagine u don’t know to what I’m referring so let’s just stick with the fact that no country, ever, had reached true capitalism. Every “capitalist” society has some sort of social welfare system in place and every economist, no matter what system they prefer, that isn’t a pure capitalist agrees that these are necessary parts of the economic system that drive massive amounts wealth and increase the health of the general population which also drives wealth. As do most American politicians which is why have a lot of welfare systems in place. We’re a mixed-market economy but only of of those markets is ridiculously unpopular here. So one may say well all we need is more capitalism but that’s no different than asking for world peace and expecting everyone in charge not to try and get mad at each other. Well then we make laws that protect it so that people can’t ruin it but that’s what we did and then we ruined it. We could debate the social structures and various outcomes but again I doubt you know to what I’m referring and I’ve not the Fs to give in KZbin comments but it also is extremely unpopular to the general population. Enter, the wealth gaps. Trying to make a more capitalist society always results in public anger that then results in some sort of welfare net. Challenging the assumption that the pursuit of the idea that personal wealth benefits all of society (and doesn’t at all harm other people, forms of life, the environment, quality, etc etc) has proven difficult to those who have directly benefited from it and those that know nothing else and assume they just need to work harder but to most experts this has been long proven wrong time and time again. So, you ask, if not capitalism, then what? Well there’s already experts working on that solution and a new economic system that, funnily enough, would lie somewhere between socialism and an “inclusive” capitalism that reflects the will of the current people and can easily slide in the given direction that is needed at the moment (but leans far more socialist than it is right now). We already know systems like this work you just have to adjust for culture. Oh you say, that’s not even an answer, I must be right, haha. Well your first presentation of stupidity is assuming there is an easy answer. Not to fix capitalism, to fix wtf we’ve used it to do worldwide. Your second is assuming the perfect solution already exists and is ready to be put in place tomorrow, see my above point. Given that most young adults in America, and I do mean most, reject capitalism outright you can say it’s already dead. It’s just clinging on to survival at this point, mostly thanks to white boomers. And again, that’s not my opinion. The same is true worldwide. The truth is that we have the economy we choose to have. Not raising minimum wage, decreasing welfare for people in between low paying “at-will” jobs, no guaranteed access to healthcare or secondary educations, no guaranteed access to increasing priced housing, gentrification being allowed to happen unabated, eroding anti-competitive laws, the wealthy protecting the wealthy using “trickle-down economics.” That’s the general idea of the economy we have chosen to have. And by we, I mean the white boomers. All the talk and structured ideas from policy experts, economists, politicians on what a different economy could look like without capitalism and how we would do it means it’s just a matter of time before the bad ideas fall to the bottom of the pile and the good ideas rise to the top and slowly, but surely, a new system is put in place. And hey, next time u wanna stupidly blame Amazon’s wealth on “capitalism” and then ask what a better solution is maybe open a few textbooks, read a few research papers, and some news articles instead.

@cleverhandle4203 жыл бұрын
They’re not legally a monopoly in the USA (they fall short a bit) but economists would debate the specifics of whether their business practices fall afoul of antitrust practices. You’re not wrong to question though as governments are looking to change their laws to address companies like Amazon, Alphabet, Facebook, and Apple for “unfair business practices” including our own. Given that they have massive amounts of data that other sellers aren’t privy to while selling competing products has led to multiple antitrust investigations and what we call in the US “monopoly power.” Sadly we don’t have laws to address the digital age power that helped these companies grow to have so much power and the FTC is basically STARING at them these days and has been for YEARS - our laws are just archaic, but you know. Congress I’m sure is working together to find a solution sometime in the next fifty years or so. Amazing that people never make sure there’s room for unexpected change when they come up with laws as most of our laws don’t address the power that the internet has given bad actors.

Well if you find that your sharpener keeps breaking the lead when you try to sharpen them, use the bigger hole in the pencil sharpener. I had this problem a while back and I was getting so frustrated, but I tried using the bigger hole to sharpen and it worked so much better! I haven't had that problem again since I started using the bigger hole! I wish I had known this sooner because it would've saved a lot of my colored pencils! So I really hope this tip is helpful to someone out there! Much love to all!

Re Stablio pens, don't use on rough paper, the nib, which is a firm gel type thing, will erode down.

the mall in my city had half the building bought out and turned into a hospital. the more stores that close the bigger the hospital gets.

Crayola is high rated by default because non-artists tend to love them and think they are best. Let's be honest, Crayola sucks in terms of ART supply, but is okay for kid's craft kids in general.
@mydogeatspuke3 жыл бұрын
Same with most crafter supplies tbh. So many people say they're the best they've used and compare them to top brands they've likely never even tried, often repeating what reviewers have said so that people click their affiliate links. For anyone who's used actual artist grade products, the crafter stuff is complete trash by comparison. There are the occasional student grade gems but they're still nowhere near the same quality objectively.
@Kessik83 жыл бұрын
Crayola is amazing for my student budget, though there are better felttip pens or pencils for sure. I tried arteza pencils, they are better as "kinda artist" pencils. I simply cant affort to try prismacolor or alike pencils
@mydogeatspuke3 жыл бұрын
@@Kessik8 it's worth remembering that what you can afford is no reflection on you or your talent, and that a good artist can make the best of most supplies. I've seen incredible art created with some of the most trash supplies imaginable. You shouldn't ever feel like you need the professional grade stuff to enjoy creating or that you'll never be good enough if you don't spend a lot of money. A lot of people get it all tangled up in their minds and it stops them from enjoying their hobby and that's a shame. Professional supplies will always be better than crafter supplies, that's just the way it is, but that's all that it is, too.

I use Derwent academy they're actually pretty good, considering their price,@@mydogeatspuke
@mydogeatspuke2 жыл бұрын
@@Starrieyedhockey if that's where your budget takes you and you're enjoying using them then that's all that matters. But they definitely won't compare to Procolour or Lightfast from the same line. Something being good enough for the price doesn't mean they're objectively good.

Thanks Chloe for this video. It was good to see the products being used. I probably would have bought the brush pens for my daughter but maybe I will try to get something a bit better. She is constantly drawing and coloring. But everything is so expensive. Have you ever trialed the Amazon Basics range for comparison? They wouldn't be equal to Prismacolor, but any good for kids?

I just saw an Amazon 4-Star store too, when we went to the SoNo Collection Mall in CT last week. I almost had the same idea of buying some art supplies to try out but wound up not getting anything when I went. I didn’t see Prismacolors at the one we went to, however, that doesn’t necessarily mean there weren’t any there. The store is interesting and I like how the price tags will automatically adjust to the online price if it changes.

Try the thing that is like play doh ( at least that's what I think it is) it's in your basics, I just slap it on my pencil drawings and pull it up and it will lighten the lines evenly but you can also mould a tip and then erase just normally
@parisgreen46003 жыл бұрын
I think it's a kneaded eraser - I just discovered them pretty recently. So good for lightening a pencil drawing without rubbing it.

I have some magic painting books bought during the lockdown (UK). They require lots of concentration to do really well and get the colours to transition. Work best with a slight damp brush rather than a very wet one. (I didn't feel up to doing anything demanding - was very stressed.)

I love the stabilo marker case! I have these markers and they are great but I don't have the funky case for them! Also I had one of those magic watercolour colouring books when I was young. Unfortunately I don't think I had any paintbrushes. I just remember getting up early one morning to paint it using the end of my dressing gown cold lol. My parents were not happy.
