In my high school art class, we had to paint a book and create our own pages. The books were very old books that was pretty much shoved in a closet in the school that no one was going to read. It was one of my favorite projects❤️, I painted pages, painted the cover, glued book page roses on the cover.

I'm one of those who thinks it's sacrilege to write or draw, etc., in any part of the book. I don't know. I feel like it's property damage. I kind of feel like this could be the exception though. I love Sherlock; the books/stories (I have the complete works and it's huge and heavy and it has a canvas cover too.) and the T.V. series and this came out lovely. I might try this if I can overcome my lifelong belief from the sacrilege. 😂 For future reference, to get rid of old book smell. Try any of the following or a combination of the following: 1. Take a container, like a bin, with a lid, put the book inside. Open a thing of baking soda, by open, I mean rip the whole top off or take the lid completely off, and place inside the bin next to the book or so. Close the bin with the lid and set aside for 48-72 hrs or until the smell fades. 2. Use an unused dryer sheet stuck between the cover and pages or between a couple pages in the middle of the book. 3. Fresh air outside can help, but if the book is quite old it might damage it instead. If the pages are damp or wet, do NOT use this step! 4. Kitty litter. Yes, weird but it works for cats right? Use a large container with a lid, fill with kitty litter. Place the book in another container, no lid necessary for the container you use for the book, and place into the kitty litter, but not all the way. You don't want to cover the book and damage it. You just want to maybe indent it into the litter a bit. Cover the big bin and set aside until the smell dissipates. Oh also, yes, paint the Winnie the Pooh book. There's so much you can come up with for that. It would be beautiful! 🎨📚🐻
@DragonsLily4 жыл бұрын
@@grannym2880 You can try using a soft brush on the spots to remove it, gently, light strokes. The parts you are not trying to disinfect should be protected so as to not spread the mildew or mold. Then you can lightly dab, very carefully as you don't want to drench it, hydrogen peroxide or diluted rubbing alcohol (equal parts) or denatured alcohol, on the spots with a clean dry cloth or paper towel. This should prevent it from coming back. You can then follow any of the steps above to remove the rest of the smell.

Amazing! I know that there are a few ways to cure the mildew smell of some older books. I suggest using your oven to dry it out very well and I have had success with Fabreeze the spray stuff to remove orders? Yeah that one. Then after the book is dry you prep the surface and paint away! I am hopeful that you will paint on your Pooh book! I have a suggestion? You might consider painting the Harry Potter books and you can get the paperback versions for very inexpensive cost! I worked in a second hand book shop for five years. Books that smell bad are typically mildew or active mould. We would sanitise glossy books with a cotton wool ball and some eucalyptus oil. This would remove the surface grime, kill any remaining active spores, and also have the added bonus of getting rid of sticker residue! You can do this on canvas style hard covers but it’s always best to spot test in a discreet area in case it causes staining. In this case, the Sherlock Holmes book would have been fine to give a wipe down with eucalyptus since you painted over it anyway :) The cover you did is great! I really love the balance between the sky and the skyline. It may be grey but the buildings stand out well and makes for an easier transition into the background. I like the Big Ben the best - it almost glows against the rest.

As a bookworm/book lover and collector my first thought clicking on this video was how could someone ruin a book? But after I saw how it turned out I was pleasantly surprised. For anyone feeling offended note that she didn't ruin the book she customized it. She didn't cover the art of the cover since it was blank. She didn't rip the pages or ruin the story inside. So I'm fine with this. People tearing books apart or making a mess of them? Sweetie no✨💕 Ps: if you are going to do this again I recomend putting a big piece of paper under the cover so you protect all the pages and don't need to be as careful painting the cover
