Your videos on the cast iron overlocker/serger is very helpful. I subscribed. During and after the pandemic, the population of students taking up dressmaking/tailoring exploded (K-12 Students, Young adults, Hobbyist and even Retirees/Senior Citizens, a lot of first time/beginners do not know anything about the sewing machine which they have just bought or acquired, much so the overlocker/serger, totally new in operating such a machine. I have viewed your videos on this topic you made several years ago. I hope you will update these overlocker/serger videos to be viewed in the current time. Thank you.

Oh, that's interesting to hear! Thank you for sharing it! I have already uploaded some of the videos for this machine as KZbin shorts. I will think of how to present them better in a playlist or something. It's a great machine.

Pls have tried to fix the blade but not working properly, on testing it, the edges àre not smooth or do I have to sharpen the lower blade? Thanks
@ArtOfClay7 ай бұрын
Before sharpening the lower blade, double-check if both blades are properly aligned. From my experience, even a slight misalignment can cause issues with cutting the fabric properly. There is a nut on the side that can be loosened so you can move the whole blade mechanism closer or further away from the needle, so you may want to check if it is tightened. If none of this helps, then sharpening might be necessary.

I am sorry, but I don't have that specific model, so I can't provide a video demonstration on replacing or sharpening the blade for the Yamato overlocker.

Can the knives be sharpened it it's blunt please
@ArtOfClay Жыл бұрын
Yes, the overlocker knives can be sharpened, but it requires the appropriate tools and skills. If I acquire the necessary knowledge, I will create a video demonstrating the process.

Thank you very much great video indeed! Fixed my problem. I would like to add though, I had to end up pushing the blade towards the presser foot and the actual still mechanism to the right hand side, separating them as much as possible whilst tightening the upper screw in order for my blades to be touching enough to cut! Hope this will help others too.

I have a similar model but it doesn't cut. What should be the problem? please help

I guess the knives are dull, or may not be installed correctly. Also, the presser foot may be installed too far away from the knives.

I would also l ike to add that I have seen videos calling this cast iron overlocker/serger kind that you have in your video a weaving machine, and I was amazed that instead of a motor, this kind of overlocker/serger/weaving machine is manual, it is operated using manual foot pedal on the overlocker/serger/weaving machine. Have you encountered anyone converting their motor powered into a manual pedal operating one? I am interested to know how to convert to save on electricity.
@ArtOfClay2 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen a converted one with a pedal. I have seen one with a flywheel that has a handle to it. But you have to spin the flywheel too many times to get the machine to sew fast. Just an idea, I think it can be easily made into a manual pedal one using (legs/lower metal part) from an old lockstitch sewing machine. Many people get rid of these old machines and the part with the pedal can be used to realize that idea. At least in the country that I live in, you can find a working machine with legs, and a pedal (all parts) for about 20-30 euros. You may need a custom size belt and a wooden board for the top.

Oh, yeah. Thank you for sharing this. It looks like the lower part with the pedal is from an old sewing machine.

I tried it for the first time and it worked but during tying the pins it changed the move. And I tried several times but it failed to work again

It's frustrating when something that initially worked doesn't function as expected, even after multiple attempts. I understand your frustration. I hope you can soon adjust the knives on your machine to resolve the issue.
