great vid .An issue i had was i was using a 5a forward and i was getting pain in my wrists .I have large hands so i needed a thicker stick like a 5b .That worked but there was a weight difference . I slowed down a lot and i got a lot louder and the band complained . So i went to a Maple 5b stick and everything has improved .No more pain in my wrist and a lower volume ..Only issue i have is if you play hard they kind of break a lot more then Hickory.. The only pain i have now is my wife because she hates my playing lol ...Happy Holidays stay well

I love howbyou can customize your sticks with Promark. My fav, all day every day pair is the Promark 2B Finess Maple Long. Love love love!

Thanks for going into rebound vs forward. I was a Vic Firth guy from the beginning, but I'm liking Promark more and more every time I pick up a pair. The way I play, I normally end up chipping off the tips of my sticks before they "break". When I retire a stick due to extensive shoulder wear or an actual fracture, that's the exception. I switched from VF 5Bs to VF 5B barrel tips about two years ago, and that helped. However, I'm a heavy hitter and for practice sessions I prefer 2Bs for weight training, and with some tape on the shoulder for fight wear. I've found that a taped Promark rebound firegrain 2B feels so good in my hands that I use it for more and more applications than just for long practice sessions or heavy music. VF 5B barrels are still my live/recording/run through with the guys sticks, but I'm considering replacing them with a Promark model, probably either oak or firegrain. I just wish they made more oak rebound sticks to choose from. In addition to my rock/rock derived playing, I do jazz band, and in my experience VF absolutely wipes Promark for jazz stick selection. There are some VF sticks that are so petite but can make any ride cymbal just sound better. This is pretty much the only time I go smaller than 5B. I have rods, brushes, soft mallets, and timbale sticks that I use to switch up the texture or just to decrease volume, usually for jam sessions.

Been using Promark 5a forward natural/raw finish for 20y .. Excellent sticks for Country and Rock.

Vic Firth Rock is my all time favorite stick. The "Extreme" version of the classic 2B model for more leverage. Powerful, loud, and bold with a short taper for more hit and power and with a beefy oval tip for dark and full sound 🤟🏻🥁

After trying 3A drum sticks, I can't play anything else. The Vater ones are particulalry good, I love the barrel tip on cymbals and the weight is perfect. I prefer the Vater sticks over the Vic Firth ones too, as they never seem to break.

Very good video about sticks! I have used anything from 7A to 2B oak. A big difference in mass and impact on the drum or cymbal. How 7A suits quiet playing, you explained that very well: it’s not that those sticks are quiet, but when you want to play quietly, it’s nicer with a lighter stick that let’s you use small, effortless movements to keep the volume down. My 2B oak always felt like they worked against me playing quietly, even though you can play quietly with those too. Right now I’m on 5A, but think I want to head back to 7A, I read from for example Annika N that 7A let’s her be more articulate. this is something I also find, it’s easier to make cleaner sounding doubles, diddles, roughs, rolls.

Im using the Steve Gadd sigs by Vic Virth. Barrel tips which I absolutely love, available as wood and as nylon, but the stick itself is like an inbetween betjeen 5a and 7a, which is perfect for me. A stick that can handle a lot of dynamics but also works well with (reasonably) hard hitting. The painted finish also feels just a tad grippier, but not so grippy thats its gonna give you blisters like alot of those grip coated sticks.

I like the Vic Firth Dave Weckl signature models, but you can't go wrong with a 5A.

My experience is inline what you’ve said. As I aged, I from 7A to 2B. I’ve recently dropped down to 5A with an acorn tip. But, I still don’t know if I’ve found the right stick for me. It’ll be fun to try though.

Vic Firth 2B is my favourite stick. They just never break on me. Vater have been particularly bad in terms of longevity and the way I play, so I avoid them now. Vic 2B and Meinl heavy 2B seem to be best

Since I have been using jazz sticks, the 7A now feels heavy! I like Promark's Jazz cafe MJZ3 (maple). A tiny fraction of the volume level produced by a hickory 2B.

The weirdest stick I've ever seen was probably Meinl's Nano (if I remember correctly) which is super thin and doesn't have any tips. Dunno what those are for.. probably some sort of specific use but I didn't understand 'em.

Vic Firth and Zildjian both went woke. So has Sabian. I'm looking at Promark for sticks and Paiste and Meinl for cymbals.

Promark has changed their branding and lineup too many times. They discontinued a ton of products that we're unique to the brand.
