I heard a quote recently and helped me with resistance, ‘whatever it is I am avoiding, will it make a difference in five years time’ this helps me decide what my priorities are for a better future. Great chat 🙌❤️🦋

This reminds me of the Screwtape Letters written by C. S. Lewis… ‘resistance’ is that little voice aka Wormwood, whispering in your ear with the sole goal of keeping you far from your purpose. If you haven’t read it the whole guise is a senior demon training a jr. demon on how to discourage and keep someone from fulfilling their purpose and off of the path God has set before them. By whispering in their ear. Love this , good stuff!

As a mom whose kid is about to turn 10 I can completely agree! But as an artist I understand the need to be able to escape into that world being a mom your resistance could also be coming from our instincts to protect their kid

I’ve had resistance coming up with ideas. While watching this video I went through my photos with a new mindset and now have dozens of reference images to paint from ❤

Thank you so much for sharing this. Is absolutely true that awareness is the most important step. My mayor resistance is house work and family responsibilities. Coming from a traditional Hispanic family,… family and family related activities ALWAYS comes first. There is so much social pressure and subconscious programing. Prioritizing your self and respecting your own creative time, is part of self love( as long as you don’t compromised others wellbeing😌)….

I think resistance has a fear component to it. The reason it shows up the most with things we are meant to do the most, is because we are actually afraid of the success of what we are trying to do. I think the key to overcoming it is to ask what you are afraid of? And then work through that! Great podcast!!

I’ve been enjoying your content lately. You’ve inspired me to make art from my own vision again. I’m considering taking the mastery program. Making a living as a full time artist would be an amazing reality.

My resistance is truly my pain. I know getting up out of bed is going to hurt BUT, God provided me with my own art studio in my home and a way to pursue art full time so to over come this, I have set a schedule of what I have to accomplish daily and I actually force myself to go to my studio, turn on all the lights, light my candle, review my paintings from the day before, then I start me day. That mere act of just going to my studio and turning on my lights gets me to push through my morning pain. I enjoyed the video and thought about Dimitra as a new mom as my daughter in love is a new mom and an artist that craves her creative time. I within my 14 day Art Social trial and am enjoying the information,!! Thank you for all you do.

Thank you for this podcast! I noticed that I feel resistance when I see painting as 'work', it is that pressure that makes my insecurities come out and I end up feeling drained, overwhelmed and uninspired.. The resistance in my case makes me look ahead and fear that there is no future as an artist for me, I am not talented or I will always struggle and other blahblah ego-talk! It helps to take the pressure off by turning it into 'playing with paint', by working on more paintings at the same time or organizing some other means to meet my financial needs. I remind myself every day to clear my 3D-ego out of the creative flow, because it only works if I am merely the instrument that is used to express inspiration through. Creativity comes from a higher source and I am in the way if I (ego) need it to be 'me' or 'mine'. The dynamics here, although tiresome, I actually find magical and humbling. It doesn't stop, so better learn to enjoy it! 🙏

I had a baby a few weeks ago and have resistance to anything that could take that cuddle time away! I’m constantly thinking about art and goals (and watching all your videos while I’m recovering.. thank you so much for posting so much btw) but am putting everything on hold for a couple of months. I think pre baby I had a lot of resistance due to not having a process down packed… will work on doing a BUNCH of paintings in a couple of months to solidify a process and have more fun 😄

Yes, for sure! It is all about finding your priorities, that is of course a very beautiful thing and you should of course dedicate yourself to what is most important in those moments. Your Art will always be there for you when you are ready again!

I'm having a wonderful problem with resistance to anything outside my studio except my kid. I'm having no problem either prepping my area 4 Fluid acrylics, painting, or organizing I did have resistance to those until I started paint pouring in January

I just had an argument with my husband because I asked him his opinion on a painting I thought I ruined and he gave me advice on how to fix it, and I just told him that I can't because of lack of skills. Lack of skill, time management and my ego are my 3 big resistances. Thanks for the video, now I know what to do, and I'm happy my husband didn't settle down and still beleived in me when I didn't!

I’m not sure if in my case resistance consists of indecisiveness , too many ideas to start, thinking if anyone besides me would like my art, or wanting to be someone else.
@milanartapp Жыл бұрын
Yes, that is a very valid feeling for sure! Though you know, Art is all about creating for you. Creating from the natural beauty within yourself, there will always be a market of people interested in this and who find your exact Art to be beautiful. Just be your full authentic self and everything will follow!

I think this Milan family seem very genuine even though im adverse to reality shows where people fail and are disposed of I feel there judging of art could be damaging to a person's confidence. They seem to be promoting artists that have not been chosen by galleries. I like weird art. I love Marlene Dumas Peter Doig Francis Bacon and Cecily Brown and Gerard Richter. I wonder how these artists would have been judged by this family???? I worry that there is a lack of imagination and composition. The great painters are composers. But I see here they seem to copy from the computer.

So is the book war art really a good read?
@the1stime Жыл бұрын
He’s definitely one of the leading experts on resistance. I’ve listened to all his books on audible, War of Art is my favorite. Fearless Creating by Eric Maisel is good too, a bit more esoteric.

They are talking about procrastination guys they just labeled it as “resistance”. There is nothing you don’t already know. Get up and do it. It isn’t a new idea. So I really thought this was going to be a discussion on how to be continuously creative. It wasn’t. If that’s why you came you’ll be disappointed too.

We are so glad you watched this! Don't put so much pressure on yourself, these things take a lot of time and effort, just take small steps every day and don't get overwhelmed. Just focus on one step at a time and what you can do in that moment. You got this and we believe in you!
