I have spent most of my life in long, cold winters. I lived in South Florida for four years and I didn’t mind the heat in the summertime as long as I went to the beach frequently and had ceiling fans throughout my apartment. But I must say I really love the four seasons and I actually enjoy the winters. I have lived in many different places but I always come back home where the winters are long n cold. 💝🌎💝I have enjoyed camping in every season. There’s nothing like working hard all day in the winter n coming in for a nice meal n nice rest in the warm cozy camp. It’s food for the soul to get far away from everything n everyone for brief periods of time. It’s like rebooting.

You guys did your bunker better than what I've done to my bunker. Atleast you had log walls to keep the water away and keep the soil from caving. I was in the process of doing the wall reinforcement until the forest was cut down for houses. Also, I did not have a draw knife nor could i find one in the stores to scrape the bark off of the logs that I had. Which is not good to leave bark on the logs.

I really don't know how you guys are going to handle the water underneath. Your stairs just allow the water to come right down, under the threshold and then under the dugout. The whole thing is going to rot out quickly not to mention the unhealthy air you will get from mold and mildew. At the very least take the floor up, dig it out some more and fill with gravel and then put a vapor barrier, i.e., tarp over your beams before you put the floor back down. Its sturdy but the water is going to complete destroy the load bearing capacity of the soil and the whole thing is just going to sink into the mud.

@@user-yr9lt7dz8k One is not dealing with the water issue. Building underground in clay creates water issues because it can't drain. It's challenging but some sort of drainage needs to be provided. A big help would have been extend the roof and eves so when all the rain and snow melt run down it would be kept well away from the walls. This would help control how much water built up under the floor. Lastly I'd have gone with more earth on top of the roof for multiple reasons. One would be that a thicker layer say 15-18 inches would provide better insulation as well as absorb more water and provide enough depth for roots to grow in. It's a learning process. It's a pretty nice dugout it's just missing those things that are needed to combat the water problems that come along with building in clay.
