Hello Art, i am finally visiting your home town this summer. How many days should I take to visit Sukhothai, 2 or more days? Any recommendations where to stay. July is the rainy season, hopefully it won’t rain a lot. Thanks

I think 3-4 days in Sukhothai would be great. There are two large Historical Park - 60 kms from each other. Hotel prices range from 15-20 USD to 100++ USD. Sukhothai Heritage is a premium boutique hotel near the airport. You can travel in rainy season. It is green everywhere. Beautiful. 👍 Enjoy your trip!!!

I think you misunderstood on Buddha Amulet, it’s not from Khmer culture but from Dvaravati culture which was influenced from India. People in Dvaravati culture believe in Theravada buddha, so they build a lot of Buddha Amulet which you can see in the museum of Lopburi, U-thong, Sithep and northeastern part of Thailand.

Tai emerged from Khmer, that’s why the Thai took a lot from Khmer (even language and culture).

The Thai are not ethnically or racially connected with the Khmer people AT ALL, genetically different, very different origins. While the Khmer were setting up their early Funan and Chenla kingdoms in what is today geographically Cambodia, Laos & Thailand, the ethnic Thai 1,500 years ago were in southeast China with a lot of other non-Chinese groups, fighting the Chinese from the north who were trying to dominate them, some of the Thai language today is from Old Chinese which doesn't sound like today's Mandarin or Cantonese Chinese at all. This is backed up by genetic and linguistic evidence. The Chinese had not yet taken over that area. Over the years the Thais and other groups were pushed out and when the Thai moved to what is today geographically Thailand they were heavily influenced culturally, religiously and linguistically by the Khmer who pushed Hindu influenced culture and their version of Buddhism, in the same way the Anglo-Saxons of England were influenced by the Normans and their French. In modern Thai language there are often two words for the same thing, one from "old Thai" and one more formal version from Pali or Sanskrit via the Khmer.
