I hope you enjoy this one (the subject matter is a little different to the usual chocolate box landscape!). As ever, any questions about this sketch or drawing / painting in general please just add them below :)

Wow! thank you for dividing all that up for us and making it actually look doable!! I love the way you teach too - great job!

You were right. When I saw the photo I said 'no way' but I tried it. Thank you for teaching us to tackle difficult perspective in a very logical, straightforward way. The subject may not be my cup of tea but my attempt looks like a factory! I decided to be lighter on the pen in the darkest places and use colour for the contrasts, but the point was the simplification of complexity. Satisfying.

Really enjoying this series. Particulay how ink construction lines can enhance a sketch. To my eye anyway. More please.

Yes Roy, I think a lot of people fear that you have to get every mark precise with pen because it can't be erased. In the final sketch of this series (St Paul's cathedral) I deliberately make a few bad marks to show how they won't effect the final sketch

I really like your style. I followed lesson and I think it worked pretty well. It is basically my first sketch in last 2 years that I liked myself.

You made an ugly piece of construction look so beautiful! Thank you!

Thank you for the challenge. Images like this I usually swipe the other way, but I can see now that, compositionally, scenes like this can be very fun, even if in a technical way. You've especially helped me with not trying to get too much detail.

I have been painting with oils for the last 5 years. During the Covid lockdown I decided to branch out and try watercolors. I stumbled upon the ink and watercolor art and it really intrigued me. I started following your sketch series and am now hooked. I really love your approach! Please keep it up! Connie from Houston, Texas. Stay safe!

I really found this tutorial helpful. I tend to rough sketch out with an H pencil before hand and then follow up with very solid lines but I think I should try your approach to encourage me to work faster. I also found it pretty validating that you don't get hung up on complicated strategies for conveying perspective or worrying too much on the details. It's a sketch, not a photo. Loved the final product. I too really like the Pelican water brushes. I some have really fine traditional watercolor brushes but I use the Pelican brushes 85% of the time and am completely satisfied.

I was looking at the picture up close, & those four square chimney-like structures reminds me of your city drawing. Three have their stacks covered in stucco, while the fourth is plain brick. BTW, that sky. I could look at that sky for hours.

Fabulous. Personally, I would rather have this on my wall than a landscape of green fields and sky. Landscapes are so overrated - in my opinion.

The chimney is like that because of camera lens distortion.
