I have never seen and probably will never see someone use modular hardware like you do Its amazing how you use your setup with ease. The way you make every sound blend in with each oher. specialy when when you transition from a beat to another. I'm out of word to describe how good your music is. But its perfection. You clearly master the art of mudular. This is the firt video I see of your music but its not the first time I wach it. I'm still amazed by it every time. I wont to be able to enjoy it to the max before moving to new vid. I have a feeling I'm in for a real treat. Good stuff!!

Thank you for covering the KSP! It’s a fantastic tool. Just today (thanks to the manual and the excellent support staff of Arturia) I discovered that you can send MIDI data from the 5 rotary knobs by activating the “Control” button on the left of the Track 1 button! And in the same day your video on KSP is published! If this is not a double whammy than I don’t know what is :P

The KSP is a master brain all in itself. Thinking of voltages with the pitch out, can be used for all kinds of different things (besides pitch, it's just voltage coming out) Then the timing options, the program changes. It's almost overwhelming. Definitely a tool that will take a few months of solid experimentation to figure out, so many possibilities. For example, I used the midi out going to my bitbox and using that to sample drums. That leave ALL the 8 drum trigger outs open to use on drum modules OR as switches to trigger different modular events (say an envelope to a filter every 16 steps) The options are endless. I haven't even tried it with a DAW yet, but I've read you can use it as a pseudo DAW to CV interface as well... program your sequences in DAW and send them out to Euro... I can't think of any Euro module that does that well (I had a Yarns way back) the KSP has to be one of the most innovative out-of-the-rack devices ever created.

Man you made me realise how I don't use my keystep to it's full potential, great demo you inspired me to dig a bit deeper to really use the sequencer. I was wondering how do you setup it to work with PAM and your DAW ? Have you tried to route the keystep cv outputs through your O_Cs ? I guess that you can do some fun stuff to alter the melodies

I can’t speak to the DAW though I will say Bitwig can slave to KSP. My DAW Cubase pro does not, so shop around. With PAMs getting a 1/8” TRS cable Y split to two female connectors. Connect a couple of eurorack cables to the female jacks of the TRS cable. Plug those into PAM and the male TRS into the clock out.

@@DashGlitch yeah man, the eloquencer was at some point a cool sequencer, but in reality It does not even come close to the capabilities and flexibility of the Keystep pro. Eurorack sequencers are for the most part cumbersome, but Arturia has well taken care of that🤙🏼

I sat on the fence with the key step pro for a while. I was actually quite disappointed with the beat step pro for various reasons, despite the unit being my gateway into modular. It’s reassuring to know that this model is more sturdy as with the beatstep the whole body would flex and twist under pressure then there was the micro Ian connector for power which was super sub satisfactory.This lead me to go for a sequencer in the rack,I’ve not regretted. The only thing missing from the key step in my opinion is some sort of mod input cv control (apart from clock) other than that looks a super device for laying down jams on the fly!

I would like to buy a multi-track sequencer like the Keystep Pro, but since I'm software-centric hence I won't be using the other hardware connectivity capabilities of it, which might be a waste. I still don't know of any other multi-track keyboard aside from the Keystep Pro (and the Novation SL MKIII).

@thepostapocalyptictrio4762
@thepostapocalyptictrio4762 2 жыл бұрын
Uhh kind of. YOU WILL have to plug the Keystep up to a computer to change the clock settings in the Arturia software. Factory setting is set to the old Roland standard of 48 per quarter note , which is way too fast for the DFAM.It needs to be closer to 1p16th note. Even then, you need to slow the tempo lower than you think. Clock out goes to ADV/Clock on DFAM.

The splitter is complicating things, you can just run all the synths in a chain? Make sure to set each synths MIDI in channel, MIDI can access 16 channels, but it needs to be determined on the destination synth/gear

A word of caution regarding this keyboard: In almost all respects the Keystep PRO is a great little keyboard/controller/sequencer. However, in one respect it is simply awful: the velocity sensitivity on its little keys is just plain terrible. If you are going to use it to play a velocity sensitive instrument, like a piano for example, there is no way to avoid having notes suddenly ring out because of a high velocity value (*WAY* higher than you intended to play). The more dynamic/expressive a piece you're playing the more it will happen and if the piece you're playing requires that you slide off a black key to a neighboring white key, forget it. I don't regret getting mine - what it does well it does very well - but I'd have appreciated it a lot more if I could use it for playing velocity sensitive instruments live.

Yea I did mention the keys being a bit of a con but it doesn’t affect me, I’m not a pro keyboardist. I think what you need are semi-weighted keys 👌

@@DashGlitch I have an old Kurzweil PC88 which, after 25 years, is still holding up. It weighs about 60 pounds, so it's not exactly portable and it won't fit nicely on my desk in front of the computer. I'd hoped the Keystep Pro would let me easily record short sets of chords or melodies into my DAW, and it does so long as I'm not working with a velocity sensitive instrument. But I tend to work with instruments that are velocity sensitive ... All that aside, I really enjoy the videos you post, Dash. I especially get a lot out of those in which you explore a particular plugin, DAW, etc ... Thanks.

@PaulPomeroy
@PaulPomeroy 2 жыл бұрын
@@nebula0697 There aren't any adjustments that will make a difference. I think it's more a physical problem they caused by shortening the length of the keys (to make room for all the controls at the top). I spoke with Arturia about it and they took it on as an "open problem" after doing some testing there. They might be able to fix it in software, but I have my doubts.

Yes Arturia can alter your decisions and influence you because they sent you something for free and you gave them a fabulous review and if you didn’t or every body stopped accepting things ‘for free’ then they wouldn’t do it. They made you an ‘offer you couldn’t and didn’t refuse’ literally ‘what do you want? Omg who could resist that - you didnt’ … to deny otherwise is demeaning to your viewers and dishonest as is every other KZbinr who accepts stuff for free to review. We all accept it though because we like hearing about kit for free so we are as much to blame. Thank you for the interesting video
@DashGlitch
@DashGlitch 9 ай бұрын
well to be fair, if it weren't good - I could just make a video about how it sucks, they weren't asking to see the video before it got posted and also didn't alter my personal opinion on the piece of gear in that way. Another thing to note is that I wasn't even dealing with Arturia directly, rather a local distributor who deals with many different brands. Anyway just thought I'd clear that up, thanks for watching and commenting!
