In the old vinyl booklet Philps A 836075 LY from 1960 with Mozart's 2nd and 24th concertos (by the way: two giants: Clara Haskil & Igor Markevitch with the Concerts Lamoureux O.), Henry-Jacques explains that the allegro and rondo cadences were composed by Beethoven since Mozart did not write the cadences for the works he I had to interpret himself. The cadences are the same here.

I have never heard this 1st movement cadenza. Sounds more refined than the bombastic Beethoven one. I think that the most 'Mozartian' one is by Hummel, Both for the 1st and 3rd movents could have bee written yMoart mslf. Stephen Chin Montreal, Canada. .

It is too bad the recording devices of the time attenuate the high frequency notes. But with a little imagination, this becomes magical music and performance. Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli is one of the few GREAT pianists. In this concerto the left hand often is responding to the right hand, and only Michelangli makes the conversation between the two hands clear. Other less great pianists make the music sound good, but blend things into a flow so you don't hear the conversation. This is such a fantastic performance that it should be digitally enhanced and brought to modern recording standards.

This is, unfortunately, a very bad recording for 1953. There are recordings from the 1930s that sound better than this.

Why then did Brendel, Badura Skoda, Joerg Demus seek him out for musical advice and to study with him ? They considered him the greatest. I remember Demus saying that he had recieved the most important advice from Michelangeli.......so, I am sorry mate, but you do not know what you are talking about!

T. Concordo con Lei sulle piacevoli idiozie. Lo "spirito germanico di Mozart" è veramente il massimo. Mozart - austriaco - come poteva recarsi in una Germania che non esisteva? Non a caso Mozart ha soggiornato in Italia. Per fortuna sua e per la sua musica. La registrazione è pessima ma l'esecuzione di ABM è straordinaria con buona pace per lo "spirito germanico" che non è stato ben interpretato. Fortunatamente. Gradirei una Sua risposta. Grazie. o:)
