I think that Mylo Xyloto was the most experimental era of Coldplay at that time, that was the reason of why many people had mixed feelings about the album. Many people needed to get themselves immersed on the messages of the lyrics, one example is Every T. is a Waterfall. Many people hated the song because it sounded like another one, it was "weird", but did anyone paid attention to the power of the lyrics? I consider that song the greatest one that Coldplay has ever made, the message of "never giving up" that marked AHFOD era is perfectly portrayed in ETIAW. "Maybe I'm in the black, maybe I'm on my knees , Maybe I'm in the gap between the two trapezes, But my heart is beating and my pulses start, Cathedrals in my heart" You can be at the worst part of your life, you can feel beaten, you can feel trapped, but hey! Your heart is still beating! So stand up!

I've always enjoyed "Mylo Xyloto" from the very beginning. Granted I'm a die-hard EDM fan, and "Mylo Xyloto" is their one album that most clearly flirts with EDM: most notably on "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall" (which Swedish House Mafia famously remixed), "Charlie Brown" and "Paradise". But even still, this still feels like a full band record the vast majority of the time rather than a vanity project. It feels genuine and sincere as opposed to compromised between the emotional guitar solos that punctuate "Hurts Like Heaven" and "Major Minus" to the emotional ambiguity surrounding the sparser tracks like "U.F.O." and "Up With the Birds". I've always genuinely loved this album, and I also predicted when lead single "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall" was initially met with a lot of jeers.......................that many would ultimately look back on that song with their minds changed. That's exactly what has happened, and I still regard this as being among their upper tier of full-length releases: third just beneath "Viva La Vida" and "A Rush of Blood to the Head".

Mylo's always been my second favorite Coldplay album (around a mile below Viva, and just a tad above GS, X&Y and AHFOD, though;), but hey, this is my favorite band and I have high standards) for its creativity, diversity and brilliant melodies (and-unpopular opinion-occasionally lyrics as well-Us Against the World is a lyrical masterpiece, IMO) , and I'm so sick of it being labeled as Coldplay's 'worst misstep' or them 'selling out' or whatever! Thank you SO much for this-it's so refreshing to see a positive review of this record-by my favorite music critic, no less-for once!

As I was getting into Coldplay, this quickly became my favorite album as I was getting into it. I deeply connected to it's spray-can-soul aesthetic, despite it's flaws which I wholeheartedly agree with from this video. Being a Coldplay fan since the release of A Head Full Of Dreams, I'd still say Mylo Xyloto has the most character than any other album I've ever heard. Knowing it's abundance of both character and flaw it feels like looking back to a simpler time whenever I listen to it. PS: Charlie Brown will forever be in my top favorite songs of all time and hearing what ARTV had to say about it in this video at 7:00 really hit the nail on the head for what this song means to me.

I’m about to actually sit through and listen to it for the first time since 2012-13 but I’ve always held it in some regards as it has Charlie Brown on it. I just re-listened to MX this morning. I'd say it's my 2nd/3rd best Coldplay album behind Ghost Stories & Viva La Vida, although it may just be my connection to the album that always draws me back. I remember getting the album years ago and while I listened to the singles I never listened to non-singles back then (I was around nine, who could judge back then). Around when Princess of China came out, the London Olympic torch relay had been going on and had just gone through one of the local towns (which I went out to see). For this reason Princess of China always stands out to me as a reminder of when I was young and couldn't quite understand what was really going on in the world around me. However, since recently revisiting it a couple of months ago I grew to love the album, convincing me to listen to the both the older and newer Coldplay albums. At this point I'm a huge Coldplay fan and anxiously waiting for Everyday Life.

Haven’t really listened to it since it’s release. It totally was one of my tops of 2011 when I was in sophomore year of highschool, but over time I lost my love towards it. By no means is it my least favorite but, it’s nowhere near the top of my list. X and Y is their best work (for me) that they have ever put out there followed very closely by Rush of Blood and Viva. Without a re-visit, I might just put Ghost Stories (a very under appreciated effort) over it. That album is so atmospheric, it’s so beautiful and really pulls me back towards the Parachutes days of the band.

I think the album is underrated. It was their grandest attempt, building on Viva La Vida or Death and All of His Friends. The lyrics represent both the best and worst of Coldplay. It's sound is really admirable, but occasionally it's brought down by overproduced bits. However, I can look back and admire what it tried to do under the surface of an uplifting sound. I wasn't and still not into the Rihanna Collab and for that matter, Up in Flames, it felt so inconsequential to the album when Princess of China already hints towards a similar theme. I did enjoy songs like Hurts Like Heaven, Major Minus (sounds like Radiohead added some flair), Charlie Brown, Us Against the World, Paradise and Every Teardrop, among a few.

Wait the original score 81/100 is 8.1 out of ten, or 4.1 out of 5. He said the album has grown on him, and the new score is 4/5. Am I missing something?

He said it wasn’t the score that he disagrees with, it’s the review itself

Can you do one with A Thousand Suns or Living Things.

He's always liked Living Things hasn't he?

@@iliketrains3495 He originally gave it a 4.8/5, but then re reviewed and gave it a 5/5, based on his Ranked video, I don't think that score stuck.

When I first heard this album when it came out I wasn’t the biggest fan of it. Then I saw them live for the first time on the following tour and oh man... talk about a dramatic turn of events. Still doesn’t top Viva or AROBTTH though.

Still can't really get into this one, but I also don't feel the initial knee-jerk hatred for it any more, so... I guess that's a kind of coming around to it, haha. Coldplay after Viva La Vida has just never really clicked for me and I'm not sure why. Maybe eventually it'll work for me if I keep revisiting it from time to time; that's happened to me before.

Viva La Vida is the only Coldplay album I know and I listened to. I should probably change that. Also, i just noticed you sound a little like Drew Gooden.

"No bad coldplay albums-" Headful of Dreams my guy. Its not even that I'm upset that its a pop album, its just not done well. I love 95% of coldplay's output, but goddamn Headful of Dreams was rough. It is easily their weakest effort, and just as an album as a whole, it falls flat on its face.

I never understood the hate for Mylo Xyloto tbh. Think it's a pretty solid album 👌

Didn't like it when it came out and I'm still not crazy about it. The story never seemed cohesive and the songs are for the most part not their strongest work. It's not a terrible album but this is one that I come to for the singles only by and large. On a scale of 0-10, with 0-3 being negative, 4-6 being average, and 7-10 being positive, I'd give it a 5/10.

I think I got Mylo Xyloto wrong too, is my least favorite album from them, even if I love most of it’s songs!! But I’m happy you see Mylo in a new light, it isn’t bad at all, just not my vibe

When this came out I really didn't like it because it was too pop for me. Now that Coldplay went even more maintream since, MX looks great in comparison...
