I like that they are straying away from that more mainstream pop inspired sound of Mylo Xyloto and A Head Full of Dreams and exploring new sounds. This was a huge relief as a huge Coldplay fan because I really didn't want Coldplay to eventually degrade into a full-fledged pop effort like Maroon 5. Don't get me wrong, I love songs like Charlie Brown, Birds, and Hurts Like heaven, but I personally I wanted to hear something new and that's what we got and I can't be happier about that.

Personally, it's one of my favourite Coldplay albums. Early on, after only one listen, I think it's their second best, just behind Viva La vida or Death and All His Friends. So many great moments. Coldplay, the band that just keeps giving.
@charliescott42555 жыл бұрын
Sorry Jon, I've got to disagree with you on this one, I think it's easily their best album since Viva La Vida. Now I agree that I don't think that Coldplay have never put out a bad album per say but I feel some of the tracks of their previous three albums this decade had some redundancies, mainly due to their choice of production which I don't think have all aged well. There was definitely a shift in their sound from Mylo Xyloto onwards as they leaned in a more poppier direction which for the record wasn't a bad thing in my eyes. Since they have strained away from that poppy formula it feels more organic and in tune with the Coldplay I know and love. I would put this up there with Rush of blood to the head and Viva La Vida in my opinion.

I kind of stopped listening to Coldplay when “A Head Full of Dreams” came out (to be fair, I never really gave it a chance to grow on me). Yesterday my dad told me there was a new Coldplay album out (he hadn’t heard any song off of it yet). I was curious and looked up a new song. I clicked on “Daddy”. We were talking when it started, but then the piano kicked in. It immediately took me back to the old Coldplay feeling. We basically sat in silence, as we have both loved Coldplay since they came out with “Parachutes”. When the song finished, we both said “I need this album”. Needless to say, we went and got 2 copies the same day. I fucking love this album. I also listened to “A Head Full of Dreams” and love it now. I’m glad to have Coldplay back in the regular listening routine.

I like Everyday Life. It’s a very global album. That discuss a lot of important topics and issues that excist in our world. And alot of them are very serious topics/issues. Which I think is why the album has this raw sound. . Which are things that people have a lot of raw feelings and opinons about. Like all Coldplay albums I went on a roller coaster ride of emotions. There are songs that make me happy and want to dance. And there are songs that make me ball my eyes out crying. Which is one of the things I love about Coldplay. They make you feel a lot of emotions. And they’re not afraid to experiment and use different sounds. And maybe not stick to one particular sound or style. Also they have songs that make you think. And like you I don’t think Coldplay will ever release a bad album. Sorry if this was long and went a bit philosophical. Just wanted to share my thoughts.

I understand this album is just another ghost story’s. Its just a stop gap till they bring out another arena filling rock album. The problem is. I think that orphans could of been saved for such album. If u pretend this album isn’t coldplay. It would be a brilliant first album for a band. But when you realise it is coldplay. U think. Fuck me. How do they do it. 8 albums in and they can still churn out catchy timeless songs. I read comments about favourite albums. Thats the compliment. Every album is different but brilliant in its own way. That is why they are globally the biggest band in the last 20 years

Chris intended to save Orphans for their next record, but the band asked him for a song with such vibes. I wonder why either 😂 I super love Orphans, it’s a catchy tune but It kinda don’t fit in the album
@manaceschavez71655 жыл бұрын
C'mon guys, it's the subject matter that's intend to fit together. The album is about all the feelings of everyday life, including the highest and lowest moments of the life. On these comments there are tons of people who say that "Coldplay felt this way" or "Chris intended this". The truth is you can feel safe in knowing that the finished product is exactly what they wanted it to be as a band, not just as Chris or Guy or whatever. It's not intended to be a another ghost stories, and it's not just a "filler" album for real music, that's never how they've worked ever before. The album is intended to embody their current feelings and express those feelings. With the entire album speaking so much about immigration and how it's being carried out in the world, you'd think that orphans is a perfect fit for the album. That's because it is!! It's feelings are intended to be in sync with the rest of the album. It's an album about humanness while ghost stories is clearly an intimate heartbreak album.
@XoThanaleeoX5 жыл бұрын
Manaces Chavez Well, it is a fact that Chris really did said he wanted to save Orphans for their next project, which is rumored to be a more radio friendly album, but then a band member asked for a song with such sound. 😂 I agree though, that Orphans lyrically fits the album, but musically it just kinda pops out. Which reminds me of ASFOS in Ghost Stories. And it does bug me alittle bit when listening to the album in order because it kinda interrupts the flow, along with many odd transitions I’m trying to figure out why they ordered the tracks this way (like how I was expecting Daddy to follow up Trouble in Town because of the heartbeat, instead BrokEn was in between them, but I’m sure there’s an explanation behind this!). Coldplay is a master of transitions but so far on this record only Bani Adam’s transi to CoTW impressed me, but that’s just my opinion. Nonetheless, Everyday Life is still amazing and remains my favorite Coldplay album only behind Viva and GS. I love each and every song, the message they’re trying to spread, and Orphans’ last three sentences make me tear up everytime 😢
@manaceschavez71655 жыл бұрын
@@XoThanaleeoX truth is i didn't know that and it seems like you guys know what you are talking about lol. Like i saw a review saying that Trouble In Town started off to be very ghost stories-esque and im thinking "did they even listen to ghost stories OR Trouble in Town??" Nothing alike in the tone lol. i just think that comparing this album to anything they have ever done is kinda ignorant. The piece is meant to stand alone and enjoyed as such. Touching on the point you were making about Chris' vocals not popping in every song, I think the ones in question are tracks that aren't meant to flatter Coldplay as the artist, but rather to showcase the diversity and connection that everyone in the world should share. I think it was intentional to cut Chris from the mix so the listener doesn't focus on him, but rather is given the opportunity to experience that more unifying sound of either other voices or the heavily inspired instrumentals. Great review though! I think you hit it on the head

I'd argue that they aren't quite alt/rock at this point in time. To me that would be describing their first two or three albums (X&Y was a little more pop/rock like, although probably also my favourite album of theirs) Yes, they do still have elements of alt/rock here and there, but I wouldn't say that that genre describes their most recent works as a whole that well. I'm very intrigued by the amount of different genres on this installment, though. Honestly the classical parts are what stand out the most to me on this record. What a fucking beautiful opening track.
@USMCLP5 жыл бұрын
Solid 8, maybe a 7.5 for me. Biggest drawbacks are really the abundance of interludes. I feel like they really just tested the waters with this project, and just threw everything out that they felt like doing. If they make a new album with the same kind of drive, but with more focus and chopped down to like 10-12 songs that are around 3-5 minutes long each, that would be fantastic. AROBTTH is still my all time favorite album, but this one is up there and I definitely enjoy it more than AHFOD; Even if that album had some great tracks too.
@slipperyjackreviewsit15484 жыл бұрын
That is why I don't consider it their strongest. The "real' tracks are fantastic, but all the interludes sound like they were thrown in there with no rhyme or reason. Nor are they even good. I'd say it's a good album, I cannot call it great though.

I really admire all the risks they took, from Arabesque to Èkó to When I Need a Friend. I think the passages are great too. Sunrise is a nice opener, WOTW / POTP reminds me of the title track from Parachutes, Guns (if it counts) is fantastic, and Children of Adam, while the lyrics are eh, the instrumentation is beautiful. I don't like BrokEn, and, while I like Cry Cry Cry, the backing vocals are annoying as hell. And though I like the majority of the record I do see the flaws you mentioned. I did feel there were various Chris-only songs. And it gets a little repetive on the 2nd half as there are many guitar-only songs. But some of them go HARD and other ones are simply catchy. Here's how I divided them: ☆☆☆Fantastic ones: -Church -Trouble In Town -Daddy -Arabesque -Guns -Orphans -The one in Arabic -Champion of the world -Everyday Life ☆☆Good but not amazing: -Sunrise -BrokEn ☆Meh ones: (I say meh cause they're not bad but they have a lot of downs. So I ranked them as being more and more forgetable) -Cry Cry Cry -Old Friend -When I Need A Friend -Éko -WODS/I can't remember.

I think it was intended to not make a perfect album because the world isn't perfect either but the world is also full of Beauty in so many different cultures and I think they did a great job and putting it all together. Also when are you going to do a review of Grace Van Der Waal it's been awhile since your last review of her and she's made a lot of music since then she just released the new EP you should check it out.

Really better than their previous three albums, I think... On the same league with the first four albums.

Just think for a second: Green Day’s worst album (Father of All) had the exact same score as this classic.

Definitely disagree with this one. This is honestly one of my favorite albums ever made.

For me Church can't be listened without Sunrise, and the Champion of the world without the Arabic one. I mean they can, but it just feels better.

By the way, Jon, will you be reviewing “Popular Monster” by FIR? I actually really like it, and I’d like to know what you think of it.

That's a cool song. Isn't it by AFI?

Hey are you planning to review Good Faith? I know you love Madeon, so I assumed you would be covering it

I wasn't that into it. It has about 4 tracks I can see myself coming back to but that's probably about it. It's not a bad album but it just needed more work.

Good record, altough most of the songs feel imcomplete for some reason, I appreciate the message they were trying to deliver, but feels incomplete too.

I can see how orphans is annoying but I still like it... Nowhere near as much as arabesque, it also just sort of seems like they are joking with the chorus which Chris does get buried in.

Coldplay turned into Imagine Dragons before Imagine Dragons turned into Imagine Dragons.

I mean you're kind of right. Though some songs on Night Visions do sound Coldplayish

Hate it :( This is unfortunate they are distancing from their earlier albums. Miss the original Cold Play when they weren't so rich and popular and were feeling down just like us.
