On eve December 1 Matildas father, Henry I died. Matilda was his only legitimate heir. In this time in history in the early 1100s a female had never been the heir to the throne of England before. When Stephen heard of his uncle's death He quickly boarded a ship and the moment he set foot on English soil he road as fast as he could 80 miles to London.
After being welcomed with open arms in London he again made haste to the great and important city of Winchester where his brother was the bishop. Stephen seized control of the treasury, quickly summoned the Archbishop of Canterbury and had himself crowned king. Stephen had stolen the crown.
It was an ultimate move in the game of thrones. On September 30, 1139 - a few months shy of 4 years after her father died Matilda boarded a small ship for Arundel Castle. She left her three sons and her husband in Normandy to fight for what her father had passed down to her: the throne of England. The fight for the throne between Stephen of Blois and Empress Matilda would last 18 years and would be known as teh war called The Anarchy. The storyline might sound a lot like House of the Dragon- but this history is real.

🥰🥰🥰 so glad you found me tooooo! Do you like the horizontal or vertical medium better? I’m trying to make everything horizontal here and everything vertical there. 💚💚💚

@@EvelynEdwards great question! KZbin’s horizontal videos feel more cinematic and good for long form content. I feel like overall it’s a better way to learn to absorb, but the vertical that we have on social media makes it very easy. It’s more convenient. In short, one is steak and the other is shrimp!

Evelyn, if I may, your skill at storytelling, with your voice (so essential to the art), combined with your scholarly ability to condense extremely complex historical machinations in such short order is nothing short of genius! I’m working my way through your oeuvre with such guilty delight, rather like a decadent amuse bouche. 😘 Merci!

Love your videos. They're full of suspence and intrigue, devious behaviour, a complete lack of values on the part of the parasitic elites. A bit like today huh?!

They were kinsmen. She left when she was quite young. But he and his family was a large presence at court. They definitely got to know each other over the next decade and a half as rivals.

Hard story, will there be a part 2, and how come Arundel was spared from the Cromwellites ?
@EvelynEdwards
@EvelynEdwards 3 ай бұрын
There will be many parts. 💚 Arundel is actually still owned by the Duke of Norfolk- the highest ranking peer in the peerage of England. That’s got a big part to do with why.
