yeah honestly I am looking at an rv that is about a decade older than that one, they are asking the same process but honestly with as much work as it needs I am going to try to get it for 300, I mean just in paperwork alone, it does not have a title, so basically I am going to have to get a vermont registration, and then use that to get a title in my state, so just in that alone I am going to spend at least 350 close to 400 just to get it titled, it also does not have keys but considering its age I could get a key made for super cheap, it also does not run but from what it looks like it should not be super hard to get running as from the looks of it the problems are not the engine itself but pumps and such but it will still be a bit of work, plus the inside is very not good so I will have to pay in total about 2k minimum to get it go decent condition but it will probably be worth it

Looks like you could fix it up and make it livable. FIX THE ROOF!!! Get on top and do a quick inspection. Tarp it if necessary!!! Next, empty all your water storage. Black, grey, and fresh. If that stuff freezes up, it breaks stuff. Find your control panel, open cabinets until you find it. This will give you battery voltage, maybe some circuit breakers, levels for fresh water, grey water, black water, and propane level. See if the gennie runs....make sure you have at least a half-tank of fuel or it won't start. Look for manuals it all drawers and cupboards....quite helpful! And....KZbin is your friend! Best wishes!!!!!

But I think it's a great project and you'll get a lot of use out of it. I would see and want to know what the extent of the wood rot and damages so not to spend too much money. And you might want to winterize the fresh black and grey water tanks so they don't freeze. Great video

The leak is in the same place almost every single ruined camper leaks at, around the sky-light vent on the top! Some campers do leak around the windows, as well.... Both of these could have been prevented by removing the skylight immediately, and good awnings over the windows made so that water can never touch the window seal. This same issue also is found in mobile homes, almost as if the manufacturers of campers and mobile homes knew this, and was planning for them to need to be replaced quickly enough to keep them in business. It was preventable.

@watahyahknow
@watahyahknow 4 жыл бұрын
ohw man when you start pulling the panels away you will probbly find rotten wood underneat , the frame holding the while body up is made of untreated wood , the rot will probable be in the walls too it can be done but it will take a lot of time and taking out a lot of screws out the outside panels to be able to get the old wood out and put new structure against the outer skin on the inside if you decide to part it out you might get some good money for the stove , fridge .heater, oven , showerstall toilet unit the RV windows and skylights the aluminium from the outerskin and the engine rearaxle for youre own use , dont know wat the hardboard wood insulation carpet mess you have to bring to the city dump will cost you in parts it should be worth the 1000 you payed for it , depending how you value youre time , the size of youre toolbox and woodpile , it might be a bridge too far moneywise could do a cheap fix by not pulling the old stuff off but paint everything in sumting sticky like underbodycoating to lock any mould in before mounting paneling / hardboard cut around the cabinets and walls right over all over the bad spots put some caulking along the edges of the new boards on the inside and them move outside with the caulkgun do all the seams then paint rubber sealant over the whole roof and have the RV good enough to get one or two years of hollidays out of it but watch out for mould or fungus from the moist wood and hardboard and dryrot it can make you pretty sick , the roted structure can be so bad that the body is swaying left to right on the chassis when youre driving , i once seen a RV with a sleeping compartment over the cab that dropped 5 inches on the front corner of the campershell as the wood was just gone and the shell and poliester spoiler around the cab was all that held it up

That sputter going up hills is water in the gas tank. To remove the fuel is burn off most of it and charge up the battery. Pull out the spark plugs and take the gas line off the carb. Put a hose on the end of the gas line and put the other end in a jerry can. Put a squirt of oil in the cylinders and turn the engine over until you get the majority of the fuel out. You will be amazed at the foulness of the old fuel in the tank. Once all the old fuel is out put in new fuel with stabilizer if you are not going anywhere soon, The problem with these old beasts is the tank is empty and they condensate. Put another squirt of oil in the cylinder and clean up the plugs and put those back in. Hesitation up hills will be gone.

For $1000 I'd say that's good deal. From personal experience I'll tell you fixing water damage in a camper is a pain in the butt, but it is doable. Do your research. Read some articles, watch some KZbin videos about it. Make sure you reseal the whole thing. Use a solvent based caulk (don't use silicone) and butyl tape if needed. Don't use paint-on sealants, they tend to fail. I did that on the roof of my camper, and it cracked within a few months which caused a leak (I'm looking into suing the company for damage money)

Amazing good value for a thousand bucks ! Here in New Zealand, even needing those repairs, I couldn't imagine a large camper/RV like that one, that runs and drives so well, selling for anything less than $10,000 ! Dunno how much that beast weighs but here in NZ you can only drive up to 6 metric tonnes on a car licence (approx 13,000 lbs), above that you need a "Class 2" truck licence (the equivalent of a USA CDL)

Get a peemium set of plug wires with head boots ,also google a Banks Power pack that has exhaust hedders and cold air intake, it will help with MPgs and help the power and help with the heat, 18-19,000 pounds is a lot of weight even for a big block chevy to drag down the road , put the biggest trans cooler you can find if it doent already have one and make shure the engine driven fan clutch is good, you need max cooling in summer on these gas rigs, id go through the brakes too, they use the hydro boost set up on these, this is a P-30 Step van chassis like whats under a Bread truck, it may have the drum brake on the back of the Turbo 400 trans too i think thats a parking brake?

I guess one way to look at it is if you stay in the camper for 10 nights, versus a hotel, then it will have paid for itself. My only concern would be about mold and rotted wood from the leaks, which cannot be good for one's health. If you're using it sparingly, this might be OK, but if you're regularlly using it, it may be a health concern. But for $1000 I guess if it gets you back and forth and lets you can on the weekends, for example, then it was probably worth it. But you also have to ask yourself why someone would sell a "running" RV for $1000. I've seen some really old ones in good condition still go for a few thousand dollars. I at least wouldn't take it on any long trips... maybe places 1-3 hours away but that would be it, and would only stick to highways in case you break down.

I dunno about this one man. The water damage looks pretty extensive and possibly a fire in the furnace area? I wouldn't put too much into it. Use it for the summer for kicks than part it out. The genny and fridge should get some $.

Going over Bethel Mountain with that thing must have been a white knuckle ride. 100 south to 107 would have been safer and quicker, but apparently Google doesn't know that.

You have your work cut out!! I purchased a 12 x 5 V nosed enclosed cargo trailer in April. It was new. I am retired and have been working on it steadily all this time. I am moved in now but there is still tons to do. I sympathize believe me.

You could get $1k out of the windows alone, if they were removed and cleaned up, $450 for the engine, and another $500-1k for the scrap value! :D hard to lose on that deal, even if it didn't run, and you just got it to your property, it's an entire apartment for $1k!!! Maybe turn the front seats into a race sim/gaming area!

You didn't get hurt. If the water didnt get in to the walls your looking at just a weekend project redoing the ceiling and coating the roof. Hopefully all the appliances and plumbing are all in good working condition. Would like to see what you do with th is ol' girl.

I was surprised that YOU were surprised that it had a refrigerator. I had a motorhome of 1972 vintage that had basically the same things yours does. Mine was 70s Avocado Green for the interior! how 70s is that??

If I were you, I wouldn't walk on that roof just yet. Definitely tarp it asap so you don't have any more leakage. You've got a hell of a job in front of you. That's not only going to require roofing but a gut of the inside. Walls replaced, ceiling panels replaced and your floor has probably got rot so you're probably (most likely) going to have to replace the flooring. Next is the wiring. Its been exposed to more moisture than it was intended to be so all wires have to come out. Propane lines, motor on the fridge, hot water heater, stove/oven all need to be checked for rust/corrosion. But let me tell you, its a gorgeous rig. I'd love to have it myself. For a thousand bucks - well, you're probably going to have to invest in another thousand or two in repairs - you still got a deal. Its really a beautiful camper. You never mentioned the year but if its got a CB in it, I'd say it was 70s/early 80s. All this big old gal needs is some love and she'll treat you well. Congratulations!

First priority is to tarp the top of it until you’re able to fix the roof and and take care of the leaks. Water leaks that turn into mold on RVs is real serious problem and just giving you a heads up that it could become a real money pit. My .02
