A little background on Juan Gabriel. He’s arguably the best Latin American artist, not only for his voice, but his music, and his lyrics (he wrote over 1800 songs, many of which were given to other huge artists) Some artists had better voices, others wrote songs that are known globally as well but he was the complete package. He sold 60 to a 100 million records in his 45 year career. His life was incredibly difficult, he suffered like few people. From his mom not loving him and abandoning him, to being incarcerated for something he didn’t do, to the physical, mental and sexual abuse he endured for his sexuality. He is quite the story of winning against adversity. He’s listened to by kids to older people alike as he has become more than just an artist. What he did for music will have an impact for a very long time in Mexico and all of Latin America.

As for the music, there is way more where that came from, many other artists who have made an imprint on Mexican music, like the classic Pedro Infante, Pepe Aguilar, Jorge Negrete, Jose Alfredo Jimenez. However, if you want to move, I suggest you try the cumbia genre, anything from like Los Angeles Azules or Selena Quintanilla. My suggestion is nunca es suficiente by Los Angeles Azules.
