He never mentioned anything about multiple accounts of the first vision, stated that all native people to the Americas were Laminates, that Joseph and Emma Smith marriage was a love story for the ages, and that Blacks were denied the priesthood because they were fence sitters in the pre-existence. I do believe he told me what he thought was true because that is what he had been taught. If we thought or felt like we shouldn't ask, he said that wouldn't be the Holy Ghost. When I was a missionary in the late 80's, the early invitation to baptize was then used as a reminder to the investigators who accepted it that the other things they needed to do were also necessary to receive baptism. For example, if the investigator had some difficulty accepting the Word of Wisdom or Tithing, (which came in later discussions), we would remind them that they had already committed to baptism and these additional commitments were merely part of what they had *already* committed to do. I believe (but I would need to verify) that this method of using the early commitment to baptism (Discussion 1) as a way to ease/leverage the later commitments (discussions 5 and 6) was explicitly called out as useful tool in both the Missionary Guide and in the Discussions themselves.

The veracity of the church does not hinge on the integrity of the apostles. It never has. Only those who have not the Holy ghost rely on the arm of flesh. The gospel of Jesus Christ is what is needed for the Church to be true. Even in his ministry, Christ called Judas Iscariot, fully knowing what role he would play. However, the church Christ established was and is true, independent of the integrity of the apostles. Much of what was restored by Joseph Smith has been altered or misrepresented. That is what Nemo is illuminating with these videos. The real question is, how far back in the history of the Church, did this begin. In fact, the very 'history of the Church' is suspect. As Nemo has demonstrated with his videos. We can only discern through all of this with the promised comforter. The Holy Ghost. I applaud Nemo for bringing these subjects to light.

Shifting baptism blame theory: Because a false convert who leaves is not faith promoting and takes the wind out of their sails when they leave and give factual reason as to why. If the missionaries believe the investigator is highly committed (otherwise known as someone with low access to information) they are empowered to wait to test commitment? How is following the profit still a thing? SMH. So many wonderful people being led off a cliff.

Served in Charlotte NC 1989-91, this infuriates me. We were pushed by all levels of church leadership to commit to baptism in the first discussion. Now they are trying to place that on the missionaries? Being raised in the LDS church, integrity was a key value. Where is their itegrity?

The church spoke of the various versions in an article in the Liahona in 1970, wow, super transparent. Am I going to have to start reading the entire church library of all times to hunt for the truths? This is ridiculous. Comment to several members about a man putting his face in a hat to translate, many will laugh, then say it was Joseph Smith, they won't believe it.

To one of the most obvious examples of fallibility is when Brigham Young taught that Adam was God and then Spencer Kimball said this was false doctrine. How can a prophet teach false doctrine if they are infallible? Bruce McConkie went so far as to say that if we follow the prophet Brigham Young on this issue, we are damning ourselves. But no, prophets can never lead us astray!

The scriptures still teach that Adam is a god. Read Abraham 4:1. It says the Gods went down and formed the earth. In the temple that was Jehovah and Michael (who is Adam) that went down and formed the earth. So Adam was a god. Joseph Smith said so (he produced the book of Abraham). And Brigham was just following scripture. To this day these fools at the head of the church don’t even realize that.

I did my mission in 1978-80 and even then our mission handbook encouraged us to ask people that "if they were to come to know the church is true, would you be baptized "? We would often add the caveat that we know they may not know now, but when the come to know it is true would they? Anything to get that yes. I don't remember what that little white hanbook said on the subject. This was the mission handbook (big black binder) we were given for our particular mission.

@@josephsmitheapedranochapeu9565 In what Nemo's quoted he refutes himself. When Ballard said "we now have to The Joseph Smith Papers" he confessed they did not know. So, I ask you this; How can the church leaders hide something they didn't know? "the beginning of time" You show your desperation taking that literally, Ballard was clearly talking about today's church leaders. You greatly lose credibility by narrowing your scope to unrealistic expectations about humans. You've all pointed many faults in leaders out which involve memory, humans do forget things but we have you talking as if leaders can't forget things, an unrealistic expectation about humans. By you all promoting pulling fragments of church videos out and using them fragments on more than one video your memory failed you, you now have contradictory videos showing you're deceitful liars yourselves for promoting your own lies. One video Nemo claimed J. Holland said one thing then in a separate video he said that J. Holland didn't say it. This is why I don't have much trust in exmembers and members trying to do something against the church from within, you all contradict each other, you're all found manipulating information. How do you validate Nemo's contradictory videos? The only anti-church material that has any respect from me is the CES Letter. Unlike you lot here, Jeremy urges his readers to do their own research and not just take his word for it while here you all are promoting Nemo saying "just trust me and subscribe", Nemo gaslighting. I've listened to an interview of Jeremy Runnels and his intentions were clearly about bringing more information to the table, not the intention to deceive readers by using fragments of information. If Nemo's the knowledgeable member I assume he is he has clearly on numerous videos intentionally misinterpreted what he quoted, like here of Ballard knowing all the history when he had said they didn't know as they didn't have The Joseph Smith Papers. How do you validate Nemo's manipulation of information to deceive you as well as members? This is what makes you all lose your credibility, the very fact you use lies and manipulation to get your point across.

One of my favorite lies is when Hinckley said in an interview, when asked why the church isn't transparent about their finances, that the church thinks that information should only be shared with those that made the donations, not the whole world. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHjOpYuMaJlpfZo&ab_channel=BomoNomo Also, when the church says they "disavow" all the previous "theories" about black people and the priesthood, to disavow something means that they take no responsibility for it. They're not saying the theories taught by prophets and apostles for 130+ years as doctrine were wrong, they're saying they just refused to be held responsible for what was said. So, if you're ever called in for a disciplinary hearing or have a bishop's interview, just disavow all the things you did that were wrong, and that should be good.

Hey Captain Nemo, listen, I served a faithful mission in the 70s and their were some books out re getting the investigator to commit early. My mission president Norman Olsen was against an approach which did not include education and sustainable commitment. When I returned home , my roommate Randy had served under M Russell Ballard and knew him very well. ( Randy said, correctly, he believed one day Ballard would be a general authority. This was in the early 70s) More to the point, Randy often indicated his mission president which was M Russell Ballard was against rushing in with lightening quick baptisms ( which was a popular approach by some at the time) Thus, Ballard was antithetical to such an approach and according to Randy who served under Ballard, the approach was adopted as long term commitments, education and local church community and support. Randy's Ballard lead missionary approach was two pronged holistic approach, a spiritual and social or community fellowship. A long term and honest commitment to baptism and conversion which included integration and fellowship into the ward and stake community. This approach clearly from your quote was carried over as a mission president to his apostolic ecclesiastical calling. This is what I know and what I can tell you.

At 4:11 re. Church hiding something. How come we only in recent years found out about Joseph Smith using a top hat to translate the Book of Moron? That was not taught to members in previous decades. And for the record, there are eight versions of the first vision, only the first two were published by the church during Joseph Smith's lifetime. In the first version, only God appears to JS. Jesus appears in the second version.

From the 1986 Missionary Discussions, which were in use until Preach My Gospel was introduced. 1st Discussion Pg 20 You can be baptized As the Lord answers your prayers and you feel that this message is true, we hope you will want to follow Christ by being baptized. Invite: As prompted by the Spirit, you could now invite the investigators to be baptized. (See the “Invitation to Be Baptized” in the instruction booklet.) Pg 22 Baptism Whenever the Spirit prompts you that the investigators are ready, invite them to commit themselves to be baptized. This commitment should be made as early as possible. As appropriate, use the “Invitation to Be Baptized” in the instruction booklet.

On the subject of leading members astray, there's also the teachings on previous probations from Joseph Smith, the Adam-God theory, which was taught as doctrine not just as a theory, from Brigham Young, and people on the moon and sun purportedly from Joseph Smith and carried on by Brigham Young. And that's just a small sample.

Bringham Young taught that Adam was God. He didnt present it as a "theory" but as a doctrine which he also incorporated into the temple ceremony. Of course the teaching has been disavowed, but it does show that prophets "from the beginning of time" are in fact capable of leading people astray by preaching false doctrines, which does in fact counteract Ballard's statement that they can't and won't lead people astray.

They’re just doing their job which is lying for the Lord. They pretty much covenant to do this when they go through the second anointing. None of them care about the consequences of lies, nor do they care about the people they are lying to. They honestly think it’s what the Lord wants and expects of them. I’m sure they believe the Lord will just sort it all out some day because they believe they are keeping their covenants, and the rest of us are required to have blind faith and not complain. Good thing we know better than to listen to cult leaders who are just going to cult-lead. They are just as trapped as the people who follow them, and it’s all in their minds….
