Baking Eid Cookies & Life Advice with Baba Asad

Mamoul recipe:
Ingredients -
8 1/2 cups fine semolina
4 cups coarse semolina
1 teaspoo Mahlab
3 tablespoons mamool spice mix
3/4 powdered milk
1 cup powered sugar
1 teaspoon nutmeg
3 1/4 cup ghee room temperature
4 ounces butter melted room temperature
1 tablespoon yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 cup water room temperature
4 packages of baking dates
Unsalted pistachios
1/4 rose water
Dough -
1. Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl
2. Combine melted butter and ghee
3. Slowly add melted butter/ghee mixture to dry ingredients and mix well
4. Set dough aside for 24 hours and mix a few times during the 24 hours
5. Combine yeast with one tablespoon of sugar and 1/2 cup of water and let it sit to activate 15-30 minutes
6. Pour the yeast over mamoul mixture
7. Add water a little at a time to dough until consistency is even
8. Let the dough rest 15-30 minutes before forming cookies
Date mixture -
Mix 4 packages of baking dates with cinnamon, nutmeg, and olive oil
Pistachio mixture -
Mix chopped pistachios with sugar water and rose water
Form cookies and bake on a baking sheet for 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees F or until golden brown. Enjoy!

Baba is such a beautiful soul. He reminds me of my papa. He’s also a girl dad, and when I was a kid one of my then neighbors told my dad he was cursed for only having daughters. My papa responded “I am the most blessed man because I have the love of the most amazing woman, I pity you because you will never know this kind of love.” Seeing your baba talk about you guys like that made me realize that I too am lucky to have such a loving papa, who is proud of his daughters.

As we are ending this month of ramadan I think about all the people that haven't had the opportunity to be raised by such a good dad and I pray for them. Hi. I love your family! I follow the sisters channel and all 3 sisters on their own channels too. I'm a 57 year old Grammy with chronic illness and a Catholic to boot. I have near to nothing in common with you all except love for family and faith..no matter what faith. Baba and your mama did a beautiful job raising lovely ladies and a very nice son. I lost my baby girl 2 years ago when she was 27 and we are raising her son..our grandchild. She was my only daughter. I have 3 sons . the opposite of your family. I am thankful you shared ur sweet baba with us today. The great takeaway I get from this is how to raise my children so I can in shaa Allah get kids like you girls; warm, loving & always so close. My daughter is just a few months older than Alaina, going through her terrible 2s. Most days I would wanna say no to her whims and tantrums but today I learnt from baba that that is part of growing. It really helped me see things from a new perspective. Thank you for making it easier for me to understand my own children better.
