"one person, one vote" has never been implemented in the U.S. Senate, in terms of representation by states. Not to mention gerrymandering, vote restrictions, etc. Electoral college permits the election of a presidental candidate who does not win the most votes.

Somebody just said, we must have rule by law, which must be obeyed whether you are a Prince or ordinary citizen. In any ideal state surely Princes etc shouldn't exist. This same man inferred China is not ruled by law. Of course China has laws, criminal, property, political, etc etc. Law in the West can be determined by money you have in hiring the best lawyers.

shipeng LI 我50年没有写中文。但我在重新学。 check out the following to see where u cant understand. maybe i ll try to translate. but my main point is that: 在第2次世界大战,中国是:抗亚援西 Book review for: Hirohito and the Making of Modern Japan www.amazon.com/gp/product/0060931302/ref=pe_1205900_141520640_em_1p_0_ti LET’S NOT TALK ABOUT JAPAN UNTIL ASIA AND AMERICA REACH MILITARY PARITY WWII was a turf war among the military powers of the world on how to cut up Asia, Africa and the Mideast. It was an opportunity for Asia to reclaim its past splendor by clearing the Western colonists out of Asia. As the recent rise of Asia testifies to, we should expect that Asia should not have any problem to liberate itself during WWII. But two factors derailed this liberation effort. First, it was the Christian converts in Asia. The Chinese Christian converts actually maneuvered so effectively that the Asia liberation effort was derailed into one that actually tried to preserve the presence of colonists in Asia, not only in China, but also in Burma and Thailand. This happened in the Xian Mutiny, in which rebelling leaders force the Chinese leader, Chiang Kai-shek, to stop exterminating the indigenous resistance to foreign colonization and to start just to fight the Japanese, which was leading the liberation effort. Japan, at the end, only got the support of the Buddhist countries in Asia, such as Burma and Thailand. Second, it’s the subject of this article - propaganda based on self-fulfilling prophecy, such as the forgery of Tanaka Memorial, and fabricated smear, such as the Nanking Massacre, both aimed at Japan. With America holding such undisputable military superiority that make America the judge, jury and executor, all Asian countries thus far are basically voiceless, except for the pro-West, and mostly anti-Asia, Christian converts, who continue the Western tradition of seamless propaganda. This book is providing them with the appropriate material to keep Asia divided and conquered for the benefit of the West. Historical evidences ignored by most historians: 1. chiang kai-shek caused the nanking masscre by pulling the commanding general tang out of his post in nanking, after tang warned chiang that his leaving would cause a massacre. 2. chiang did that to revenge his humilitiation at the xian mutiny, of which 12/13 was the 1st anniversary. in fact, chiang murdered more chinese people in the following spring at the yellow river flood( upward of 30 million, in 3 provinces and 5 years), but also blamed it all on the japanese, that it's the japanese who broke the dykes, not him according to the communists later investigations. 3. chiang and his spy master daili had already sent a team headed by qian xinming to do some photo shoots of the nanking masscre album that fabricated this whole event of nanking massacre. this is a album self-scripted, self-directed and self-enacted by qian's crews, whom, immediately afterwards, were sold out to the japanese military police to be executed for their smearing job of japanese troops. even though chiang and dai li lied to the world(thru my colleague at university of california, wakeman, jr) that qian defected to the japanese secret intelligence agents, the widows of qian's men recently testified that's not the case. qiang actually send the photo to wu han, and passed on to the western media, before, after a few months, surrendering to the japanese. but when the japanese found out he had fabricated the photo album, they executed him immediately. 4. all chinese people should ask themselves this question: had not japan occupied all the ports on the eastcoast and blockaded america's arms shipment, do u think china under mao would be able to survive chiang kai-shek's campaign to exterminate china's peasant resistance? chinese historians should not repeat the public evidences produced by pro-west chinese traitors, mostly christian converts, and draw ridiculous conclusions. at the minimum, we need to base what really happened on records the mao's people have on the commanding general tang, whom mao rescued, but was falsely advertised by chiang as shot by firing squad. well, he lived to a ripe age in his 80's as a top party official. but the best way is to let the japanese tell us their story, in 2020, when the combine military power of china and japan reaches parity with america. UNEQUAL TREATIES What are the unequal treaties. They are treaties forced upon the victim country by brutal force of military superiority. How can unequal treaties terminated? Also only by military power. Historically as defined in Wikipedia, “An unequal treaty is any of a series of treaties signed with Western powers during the 19th and early 20th centuries by Qing dynasty China. But why does China only consider its own as unequal treaties? And why doesn’t China, and for that matter, all Asia, consider the most unequal of unequal treaties, the Potsdan Declaration imposed on Japan by America an unequal treaties?

dilegentelectron i wrote this just for u: ME AND MY UC,BERKELEY I graduated from uc,berkeley in 3 years with full scholarship and most of living expenses. i went back to teach to pay back what ucb has given me, after getting my ph.d. and stings at oakridge national lab and energy, inc. in 1977, i essentially had to break ucb's 25 years of hiring freeze, as well as hiring of asia professors in a school with 30% of the student body being asians, while less than 1% of the faculty. from my computer code worksho class, i trained the best software automation nuclear engineers. i routinely got calls from the top nuclear research labs and power companies requesting to hire my students. of course they would get the worst of my students in the workshop, since the best are already too busy doing a startup with me in centralized nuclear software automation for the nuclear community, that was an pioneering effort, way back in the 80's, out of the boeing supercomputing center, to do what today we called cloud computing with large data. among the achievements of our company, energy engineering computer laboratory(EECCL), were the solution of many of the critical issues in the 3-mile island nuke accident and software automated optimization of the design of space nuclear reactors, sp100 for general electric and jimo for lockheed/martin. uc, berkeley, i thank u!

dilegentelectron i have to be crazy to change this crazy world we r in: CAN WE REVERT FROM BARBARISM TO CULTURE? In the past three centuries, the Western barbarism of religion, militarism and mob-rule, or democracy, and capitalism has turned the Asian culture of harmony, benevolence, peace and meritocracy upside down. Most conspicuous is the flipping over of Asia's social hierarchy from a meritorous ranking of scholars, farmers, laborers and merchants to the exploitative arrangement of politicians, militarists, preachers, lawyors, doctors, businessmen, techies, hardhats, farmers and scholars. Now harmony has turned into racism. Benevolence has turned into exploitation. Peace replaced by war. And meritocracy into a war-mongering mob gang. Human beings are made into slaves to money, and nations turned into sheeps being herded around by military mights of one superpower, America. Instead of family-centered, we openly focus on economics, but think deep down only of military mights. Kids must study hard. Adults must work hard. And old people become an unwanted burden on society. Why? Because only when economy expands, a nation can build more and better weapons. The Asians are busting their asses trying just to do that. Their goal is to reach parity with America's military strength. But what we really need are only food in our bellies and a roof over our heads. So, the first question the Asians should pose to the Westerners, when Asia catches up to America in military strength , is: "What do you really want?"

Andrew, as the moderator, you should stay neutral. You can’t compare the air quality of a tiny island of 23 million to the major hubs in mainland China of 1.3 billion. Your comment also aren’t comparing Taiwan island to the suburban areas of the mainland. And based on that, I am certain you don’t know enough about mainland China well enough to even comment. Shame on you and the organization you represent.

I'm a fan of Eric X Li, but he certainly wasn't as articulate in this video as he usually is, especially compared to his TED talk. One mistaken conclusion he makes is that in the past 200+ years, the West "succeeded DESPITE democracy". This is fundamental misinterpretation of history. 200 years ago, no western country had a "democracy" as he defined it (& panel members accepted by default); every successful western country that uplifted itself from a developing to a developed country had de facto oligarchies, highly restricted political participation, and a pyramidal social structure. In the past 500 years or so, there is NO example in the world of ANY country (western ones included) advancing from the status of a poor, developing country to that of a rich, developed country under a genuinely democratic system - one that's characterized by universal suffrage, equality, & fair, periodic multiparty elections. Therefore, I would go further than him in saying that the success of the west CANNOT be attributed to democracy - at least not the brand being promoted by western-dominated institutions today.

Daniel seem cant accept the truth that democracy is worst form of governance. democracy is a just a value like "honesty. hardworking, beautiful" advocating democracy akin to " advocating values of honesty" to misrepresent value of democracy in the typical rigid western framework - an election, one person ,one vote, is a truly a recipe of disaster. as daniel say that they refuse to give up "one person one vote" despite it is truly evil, bad daniel dont realize that " such judgement already prove to us that so called voter are not irrational, not sane in their decision making? for the sake of " demonstrating that we respect people's wills, we actually allow fools to choose our elected leader? fools - there are majority genius - few in number one person one vote - basically allow fools to decide your future.

what china needs is to just go back to the systems that worked in the past. forget about the government system first. just bring back the social hierarchy of "scholars/farmers/laborers(techies)/merchants". then the small issue of electing leaders can be reduced just to betting on merits or genes, the latter being really the cumulative merits from the past and addressing an appropriate reward system to past leaders.

孙正峰 i am a former nuclear engineering prof with uc,berkeley, california, living in berkeley, california. in the aftermath of the tienamen riot in 1989, when america put a sanction on china, i sponsored ur tian-he(then yinghe) supercomputer group to build a mini-supercomputer in berkeley. this group today is the number one supercomputer manufacturer in china. since then, i have found china lost its way, like blaming their benefactor japan for saving the mao's liberation army from chiang kai-shek in the civil war, and helping the chinese airforce in the korea war. r u one of the modern chinese western-barbarian or christian converts? as for me, i m working with the north koreans to liberate asia from america.

孙正峰 china blaming japan now to woo taiwan by whitewashing chiang kai-shek, who's life long ambition was to exterminate mao, along with him china. but japan ruined it for chiang. am i right on that? what u call stupid terminology is the only thing that will save from being sold out again by its pet dogs of the west, like chiang and wife. i m not joking about north korea, as i m going their in mid oct. and they said the same about me when i saved taiwan from being technically strangled by america, when i bought a computer 5 times larger than the one america refused to issue export license. also the time i tried to salvaged the chinese supercomputer group(the last one survived out of 3, at the time). the leader of the group refused to buy any american supercomputer, and i wont allow them to clone other supercomputer, like they did to cray. and the result is the tianhe-2, world's fastest.

taiwan has one of the best health care systems in the world. wth is Li talking about? there has been a huge migration of SE Asians (not Chinese) to Taiwan in recent years. Tsai is going to encourage more of this type of migration :( i guess more maids and more uneducated people in Taiwan.

Sometimes, reality is cold heart bitch. Has the western democracy delivered its happy ending? Too short to tell, yes. But from the trajectory tw is heading, its highly unlikely that tw will reach to the other side of paradise. Now, that being said, its only a prediction, folks in tw can still fight for a better future. However, it seems like the effort of adopting the western democracy will be ended up as futile struggle.

I've seen many Taiwanese talking about their health care, it seems like they nothing to say but the health care. Is Taiwan really such a backward place so that citizens have nothing to honour but a unsustainable and inefficient centralising managed on the road of being bankrupted system?

Li is biased against taiwan. if taiwanese moved out of taiwan it wasnt because of its political system. it's because the fear of communist china taking over. i had some respect for him, but after what he said about taiwan and his failure to take into account econ theory into the decline of taiwan, his credibility has been cut 50%. also, he forgot to mention that taiwan's political parties have completely different ideologies. blue wants unification and green wants Independence. when you have such a conflicting issue, it is obviously that taiwan's politics will suffer. despite the 1.3 million of taiwanese working on the mainland, these 1.3 million would rather keep their ROC's passport. they will never take on PRC's citizenship. so yeah, i hope his positive views on the ccp is just as fallacious as his collected data on how satisfy are the Chinese with China's current communist regime.

So, Taiwanese moved out of Taiwan because they are afraid communist might take over, so most of them decided to move to mainland China.

My apologies, but it is on nowhere I saw he is supporting Bin Laden in the text. He is simply speaking truth and mentioned the reason WHY Bin Laden ATTACKED the US. He is NOT saying what Bin Laden did is right. Actually I believe everyone in the Civilized world will say what Bin Laden did to the US is evil. Nothing to talk about here. The true problem is, you DID NOT UNDERSTAND HIS ARGUMENT, that the decision you AMERICAN PEOPLE made by your democratic system gives Bin Laden a reason to attack the United States, a reason which at least Bin Laden think such a reason is reasonable to him and his followers. Well not convincing to me but yes to him and his follows.
