Talking about how Bookworm is an autistic escapist isekai fantasy.
Maybe Urano wouldn't jump off because she did survive in the isekai world. But then again she did have a supportive family there and she does credit Tuuli for not giving up so idk 🤷

One aspect of the source material that's been left out of the Anime has to be just how much she did with her mother. In the memory sequence in the light novel, she goes through her old memories, and instead of just being a passing visitor, she actually had the agency to go about and interact with her memories, and as she did that, one thought that just kept occurring to her was how much her mother had done for her. One choice she pointedly makes is the thank and apologize to her mother, even if just in her own memories, for passing away before her, which just puts a sadder undertone to the wide of things Myne 'comes up' with, be it the shampoo, pressing flowers, making baskets, origami, all of it was her mother trying to break her child out of her shell, and Myne realized that she'd be nowhere near capable of surviving as Myne, let alone start the thrive, without the experiences she gained from her mother spending time with her. One very particular detail that was left out of the anime was just whose books it was that were in the avalanche; instead of that having been her personal collection, it was her father's collection, one that was left in a state of disarray where Urano had fastidiously organized all her own books. There's a lot around that situation that remains unsaid, but I definitely feel like Urano's infatuation with books was something that came about as a coping mechanism from whichever situation had taken him out of her life.

The part about how her mom gave her some of the knowledge she had is so good wow. I'm actually annoyed at how short the memory sequence was in the anime, they should've spent at least half an episode for it (It was like 5 mins in the anime). It would've helped Ferdinand's character too.

I suppose she rather explicitly says she uses books as a coping mechanism when she says at the start of the anime that she can bear anything as long as she has books.

One of my favorite Isekai's. I love how it starts, slice of life isekai. No crazy powers (yet) and dealing with normal issues, as an isekai. We need more of these

This is just my two cents, but I think Isekai stories are all the rage these days because Japan and the rest of the western world for that matter are battling to survive right now. Depression from overwork is common right now, many people have been screwed out of having a decent life through no fault of their own, and the bar for achieving anything worthwhile is hopelessly high for many people. In that light it is easy to wish for just a chance to live a life where you either have a chance to live the life we were denied or be given "our dues" and be made overpowered for all of the pain this life has done to us. About AoaB, Myne is also very smart in more concrete things and fails and understanding abstract things like social interactions but when the social interactions are explained to her, so she has a blueprint of how to act and what to do to get what she wants she excels. She was the one who negotiated with (Dio) Benno, and she is the one coming up with ways to translate her knowledge into something of value through sheer effort and work so she can get her books. Again, very ASD as she is far more receptive to the carrot part of the carrot and stick routine and shuts down when given the stick. Myne's body might be very frail, but her mind is very comparable to concrete, VERY high compressive strength, very low tensile strength.

You're definitely right about Isekai and Myne's intelligence. I might come off as being a bit hard on the escapist thing, but that's only because I saw people praising Myne's struggle without acknowledging that the Isekai world itself is a godsend for her. In fact, Isekai's blatant escapism is probably its best quality, as it manages to capture those themes related to our sad reality in a way conventional stories fail to. And of course escaping reality is fun lol.

Nice take. IMO All non-fiction is primarily escapist nowadays, just from the sheer volume we read (me included... heck, the 33 volumes took a while in this one). The added value you outlined is somewhat current to all of us, who may have a bit skewed outlook, because of technology that makes us all slightly ADHD. Reading this series is fun, but a paradox as well. That makes you think. :D

As a diligent paper back collector of AOB. I don’t know how to feel about you calling me autistic. Tbh, i don’t really care. You should read the Light novel! It’s amazing!

@@jingo123 the next part, Part 3 is a blast to read. The light novel PB's are already far in part 5 but it only gets better! Rozemyne is turning more crazy by the day.

Pointing this out because I see you are doing this in good faith and want to help you improve in the future. Aspergers isn't a term used anymore. It's called level 1 autism now. They got rid of that term because Dr Asperger. The man the term was named after was a 1940s German Doctor who worked for a certain mustache man. And most people don't like ourselves to be associated with that man or men like him. The term refers to the people with autism who are "Good enough to live and work as slaves" by the 1940s Germans. It's a mistake still commonly made by a lot of people. This isn't being pointed out to judge you. But because I enjoyed the video as an autistic who relates to Mine and want to see more of your stuff in the future and for it to improve

Hi I just want to point out that his name is Asperger, but maybe that is just the english version. Also thank you for teaching me this info. It really is understandable not wanting to be associated with him.

It's nice of you to point that out man. Being an asperg autist immigrant in Germany, I would not sweat it if people are only familiar with aspergers, heck I'd be impressed if they have any knowledge about what it means at all. It's just that I wouldn't want people interacting with me to have another social landmine to deal with, considering I am basically a minesweeper with all the mines I am setting off on accident haha By the by, I am learning just today that autism comes in levels now, which I think is deeply hilarious. How much XP am I gonna need to grind to level up?
