Well to be honest, it is not really coronation when it comes to the caliphs as they are not supposed to be kings, but rather implementers of the will of God chosen through shuura or majlis, and even later during the umayyad and abbasid periods, you still had process of accepting heirs to the throne. Early caliphates were not absolutist monarchies, but rather some sort of elective oligarchic dictatorship based upon religious foundations. Maybe process of ascension to power would have been a better description of this entire process rather than coronation, on order to emphasize the difference between Caliphate and kingship? Though the nuances of the titles would have been hard to fit then, so I understand kind of why you added coronation to the video title too and why you kind of did skip through it rather quickly in the video. Yet, it should be said that you mentioned many things adjacent to this with the bay3a 👍& I think you did a very good job with it!

End of time and Qiyamah signs, Imam Al-Mahdi will come from the east! Recently a man named Muhammad Qasim and his divine dreams about the rise of Islam are getting famous on social media. Many people are claiming that he is the Mahdi. Muhammad Qasim, the man with blessed dreams for Islam and Pakistan. His followers present him as Imam Mahdi. What is the message in his dreams ? In Islam true dreams have influenced the course of history. "Allah will not help Muslims until they eradicate Shirk at the state level", This is the claim of a man named Muhammad Qasim from Pakistan. He is also claiming to have Divine Dreams about the end of Time and the rise of his country.

Interesting video, I would like to add that wali Al'ahd still had to collect bay'ah when they rose to power, also very interestingly in Morocco we have a tradition of writing down the bay'ah, a tradition that is almost 800 years old or even older, it was even once used against a moroccan sultan, where the army claimed that the new taxes he imposed on them was not in the bay'ah they had, so they rebelled supporting one of his brothers It us also worth noting that there existed a tradition of "bay'at al mawt" where an army would swear an oath to their emir to fight tell death, most famous was during the Abd allah ibn alzubair's defence of the kaaba from alhajjaj Last thing i would add is, interestingly, bay'at alhudaibya mentioned in the quran was a literal exchange, as those who swore the oath were given a right to the booty of the war on the jewish forts outside of Yatherib, even those who died before the battle had their families collect their portion of the booty, in a way it was a literal contract

I was just reading, yesterday in fact, that Ka'b ibn Lu'ay, a direct ancestor of the Prophet (PBUH), began the practice of delivering a sermon on Friday during the 4th century CE as part of the Ibrahimic practices which became the basis for the Khutbah. The article I was reading mentioned many other practices now typically associated with Islam actually predated it, e.g. Abd al-Muttalib instituted the practice of giving one-fifth of any booty going to the poor and needy and that the Kaabah is to be circumambulated 7 times. Perhaps examining how Islam, rather than being a religion that sprang anew and fully-formed actually maintained many pre-Islamic traditions that people were already familiar with more-or-less. This work maintained that the things that carried forward into Islam did so only from the pre-Islamic monotheistic Ibrahimic religious practices but I wonder if that was the only source. The footage of the 1918 installation of Mehmet VI is - wow - what a visual record to have.

Yes, there were remnants of Hanif religion, which was an Ibrahimic religion that had many customs and rituals from Ibrahim (pbuh). Contrary to popular belief that Islam took many rituals of pagan Arabs, actually it took Hanif rituals that was also mixed into pagans rituals. If I'm not mistaken there was Abu Amir (who himself was hanif), he accused prophet Muhammad (pbuh) of adding additional things to Hanif religion, to which Muhammad replied that he brought Hanif religion pure and white. Thus, we can conclude that Islam was not a new religion, it was a continuation of the religion of previous prophets. (also , can you give me the link of the article you had read?)

This makes me wonder, what about the 'faraway Islamic worlds' like Sub-Saharan Africa and Indonesia? What was their equivalent for the Sultan's 'coronation'? These regions seem starkly different from the Arab/Turkic/Persian worlds, I'm less familiar with sub-Saharan Africa but Indonesia seems to have preserved a huge amount of unusual pre-Islamic rituals so i wonder if likewise their 'coronation' equivalent had more pre-Islamic relics.

Today I learned that the khutbahs was a tool in asserting fielty. I always thought that the prayers read for the Sultan and heir's health read in khutbahs here where I live is standard practice, not knowing it possibly used to pray for the Caliph before the tragic dissolution of the institution. Also fun seeing the King of Malaysia, Defender of Faith in such Malaysian states and territories without a Sultan and thus prayed for in khutbahs in such places, cameod in the coronation video right at the anointing part.

Khutbah used for political power already happened during Banu Umayyah reign when they delivered khutbah to curse Ali. Ali retaliated by using azan and qunut to condemn Muayiwah for becoming rebels (as he declared he is Caliph in Syria) against his caliphate in every prayer . That's why every Shiah's azan will have the declaration of Ali as Waliyullah and every salah they'll have qunut
@ummfaizal
@ummfaizal Жыл бұрын
We are not sure if before Ottoman dissolution, our ancestors here prayed for the Ottomans or not in khutbah. Because Ottoman Caliphate legality was in question. According to Ahlul Hadis (Shafi'i and Hanbali madhab) only Quraisy clan can claimed to Caliphate. The Bendahara dynasty of Johor claim to be from Ba'alawi of Aydarus of Yemen and used title of Khalifah and Zillullah fil Allam. The Johor Sultanate have high prestige among Malays because they're successor to Malacca Sultanate. Plus they have Nobat troupe that claimed from prophet Ibrahim and Alexander the Great, the music played during installation of Yang Di-Pertuan Agong. We don't have coronation but installation of King. Except for Johor, Selangor, Terengganu and Kelantan that have their own crowns.

Fundamentally, Khutbah is NOT a tool for anything except it is a mandatory part of Salaah and that it (Khutbah) should consist of the Aqwaal of ALLAH SWT (meaning the words of the Quran) and the Prophet (PBUH) meaning Hadees. Apart from these fundamentals, one can make dua, essentially for Muslims and everyone else. But because there is a minimum requirement of Khutbah but NOT an upper limitation of what CANNOT be said about praising or making Dua of a supposed Caliph or prime minister or head of state of President or Army leader etc, one can use the Khutbah as a “Tool”. At the end of it all, one has to realize and remember that Khutbah of Friday is part of Salaah (specifically in lieu of the first two Rakats (cycles) of prayer) and the essential/Mandatory parts are the Aqwaal (words) of ALLAH SWT meaning the words of Quran and that of the Prophet (PBUH).
@pamtam1
@pamtam1 Жыл бұрын
The rulers and the people of the Muslim world, due to lack of freedom of expression about political views have time and again, blatantly appropriated this sacred part of Friday Khutbah and have tried to convert the Khutbah as a “Tool” and extension to make up for their lack of communication with the people by way of honest administration/governance, primarily the peaceful transfer of power. Had Islam been a creation of the Muslims, the Muslims would have decimated every aspect of Islam right in the beginning.
@ummfaizal
@ummfaizal Жыл бұрын
@@pamtam1 in my country Malaysia, the mandatory part are delivered in Arabic (praises to Allah, salawat, 2 verses of Quran and du'a, per Shafi'i madhab) while the rest of khutbah delivered in Malay language. The second khutbah mostly contain lengthy of du'a, this du'a contain prayers for our sultan as head of Islam (an adoption of English constitution for king as head of Church of England 😊). In my state of Kelantan, the sultan always late for Friday prayer, the khutbah cannot delivered until the sultan, the head of Islam came, he's always late that 2.30pm or 3pm only can start the khutbah. I would like to add, the Bait ur Ridhwan was a pledge made at the tree of Ridhwan regarding Uthman (Ra). The Muslims had halted at Hudaybiyah. They were wearing their Ihram and had the intention of performing Umrah (the prophet had a dream of visiting Kabaa). Uthman was sent to Makkah to negotiate with the them so that the Muslims could perform Umrah. The Muslims waited for a while and they got no response back from Uthman. A rumor broke out he was killed. The prophet and his companies then swore to avenge Uthman if he was killed (a pledge ,bayyah, was made) . However Uthman returned after some time proving the rumor false.

Sounds a bit like democracy... the ruler has the right to rule because of the social contract between the ruler and the people and the ruler is a servant of the people. The ruler and the person giving baya are equal persons and the ruler-to-be even gives speeches to collect bayas. I suppose the difference is that the ruler will rule in accordance with the laws of Islam and not approve of a law that goes against that...

Idk thou, in Morocco they still do the Bai'a to this day the same way the did hundreds of eyars ago, and still the leaders of the tribes still come from all regions to do the pledge, the tribe leaders don't have really that much power anymore nowadays but they did not long ago, just in the generation of our parents and before (speaking as 90s kid), IMO the biggest change that happened in Morocco after it's independence is how the power and autonomy of tribes got diluted (althou some tribes still have the right to have their own tribal laws, own judges and courts, amogst these are the jews too who did and still to this day have their own court ).

@@vaktus3380 I watch several videos on KZbin about why Malaysia and Indonesia Indonesia became Muslims. No video gave the correct answer. It's true we got Islam from Arabian traders. But the trade route through the sea already established way long before Islam. In fact there is one Malay word existed in Quran, in Surah Al-Insan, the word كافورا (camphore) is a pure Malay word. It's shows connection between Malay archipelago to Middle East since ancient time. Precise facts about the Islamization here only can be get through local studies not through European/Orientalist. Got a video from Knowlegia channel but this video also not provide details. The first Islamic sultanate here was Perlak Sultanate of Ismaili Shiah which have connection to Fatimids of Egypt. After Ayyubids toppled down the Fatimids, the Perlak was destroyed by Pasai Sultanate of Sunni Shafi'i sect. From this point Shafi'i sect become the dominant creed to spread to all South East Asia. Because it was sponsored by Ayyubids and later Mamluk Sultanates. All of videos I watched said local kings helping the spread of Islam, this was not true, because Islamization here became slower because of local kings resisted not to convert into Islam, only after Sufi Saints perform miracles in front of king then only they converted, that was in late 1400s just few years before arrival of Portuguese.

It wasn't unchallenged by any means. It was constantly attacked both militarily and through propaganda. Not only Sunnis but the Shia Buyids were against the Fatimids as well. They weren't recognized as Caliphs by anyone but those in Egypt (especially Shias).

@@AlMuqaddimahYT do you have evidence that Fatimids Caliphate were not recognized outside of Egypt? In fact, the Holy Cities of Mecca and Madinah also under their control. They're also have extensive trade and da'wah mission to India and South-East Asia. The first islamic sultanate in Indonesia name Perlak Sultanates were of Ismaili Shiah sect. During Ayubids toppled down the Fatimids, a war broken in northern Sumatra between Pasai Sultanate (Sunni) against Perlak (Ismaili Shiah) and won by Pasai. Then Pasai spread Islam to Malacca, Kedah and Patani. From this onwards that is why South-East Asia is Sunni of Shafi'i fiqh. Islam came here from trade network starting from Egypt to Hejaz, Yemen, Malabar coast of India then to Malaysia and Indonesia. The dakwah very active at that time. Even the famous Shafi'i jurist Sheikhul Islam Ibn Hajar Al-Haithami from Egypt even travelled to Malabar coast of India in 1526 to meet his student Sheikh Zainudin Al-Malibari, author of Fathul Muin kitab in Shafi'i fiqh that are still used in Malay archipelago madrasah today.

And those things you mentioned doesn't make one a monarchy. A monarchy is someone who inhertits power and can rule until he dies or abdicates it. Giving allegiance is not meaningless; You see the Saudi monarchy isn't like your typical western monarchy. The father isn't just handing over power to his son. If enough members of the Bani Saud don't give ba'yah, the father's choice is irrelevant. The Bani Saud represents most of Saudi Arabia. Look at the Roman empire ( I mean the Easten Roman Empire that is called Byzantium) that collappsed becaused emperors were usurperd and usurpers used other peoples like the bulghars and Turks to usurp power from the ruling emperor.
