These cheapo sausages make a great 'binder' for minced meat..to be made into meatballs.just defrost about 4 sausage to a small pkt of minced meat..fry to brown..and add to stews/pasta..etc..😋

I know this was a year ago but I just picked up on this. Price has gone up a bit £3 for Richmond and £1.50 for Just Essential but still a massive difference. We've always got a bag of the Just Essential in our freezer - me and my wife call them "school dinner" sausages, cheap and cheerful but nice and tasty. Well worth the money.

For the first time ever, I've bought Tesco barn eggs just to try. £1.35 for *15 eggs* . The prices of the standard eggs had all gone up considerably and I couldn't get to the farm gate where I usually buy free range eggs because the road was closed. I would not, on principle, buy caged eggs, but at least the hens in barns have some room to move around a bit and roost. Another shopper was also buying the barn eggs and I asked her whether they were okay. She said, yes. Mixed sizes, so sometimes you might want to eat two if they're small. I will post a comment after I've eaten the first one tomorrow what I think, but this is one major food item you could compare - provided the people in your family like eggs. You could compare barn eggs with standard eggs and with the expensive eggs like the Tesco Clarence Court eggs at £2.60 for six. Vast price differences, but do the expensive eggs really taste better?
@L1RW2 жыл бұрын
Apparently the boxes marked free range” are from chickens that lay eggs in only a metre square space to roam. Free range is a supermarket con in my opinion. If you want fresh, either get chickens, or buy from someone who owns chickens.

First impressions: The Just Essentials sausages look far nicer than the Richmond ones. I used to buy Richmond fresh sausages, but then you did a review of ASDA Farm Stores sausages, which at the time were only 80 pence per pack, and they tasted lovely. Recently, before ASDA introduced the yellow pack Just Essentials range, the Farm Stores ones had been replaced by another cheap ASDA sausage, which was just as good. Hi Gaz You get what you pay for. I'm sorry but I'm spoilt by my local butcher.. 80% pork.. and taste amazing.. No sulphites and additives. Not cheap but the enjoyment is on a different level. Downside, apart from price.. unless you freeze them they don't keep more than 24-48 hours before they taint in flavour but that's because everything is natural food there are no preservatives... Unfortunately many people may never get to taste real pork sausages and that's a shame as additives make up to 60% (or more) of most high street products. Keep up the excellent reviews...

Well I do the "breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince, supper like a Pauper" method so my breakfast is biggest meal. I begin with bacon and sausage, cook them slow, leaves a lot of fat / sticky in pan, then add mushrooms which de-glase the pan, cleans it, soaks up some of the salt from the previous, then the pan is clean drop in whisked eggs, turn it, then drop back the sausages, bacon, mushrooms, to warm up. One pan cookining. Wipe clean then ready for next day. The sausages thus are cooked slow and kept warm. You can also defrost to begin microwave to begin to save time+money. In between I do all the other morning things I can shower while mushrooms cooking (they give off a lot of water).

I have become converted to ASDA just essentials. Its the only last supermarket that is offering decent quality food for the price. Its hit and miss in Aldi/Lidl whether you will get essential range products. They are either out of stock or not stocked up depending on the region. A shame they have restricted their range to 3 per item and that most of it is now OOS due to popularity!

thanks 😊

If they hadn't restricted it to 3 per person it would have been OOS even quicker so I think they're justified in doing it to give more people the opportunity to buy them.
@jungleboy12 жыл бұрын
@@andrewlaw That is true, but its been a few weeks since they introduced it and I've seen more OOS products than before. They need to get their supply chain sorted. I don't know if they are selling essentials at a loss (i expect they are), so they may want to restrict the number of items they buy. Then they force us to get the more pricier equivalent which in turn makes them profit.🤣

To be honest, I buy 2 packs of 14 thick Richmond sausages, from Iceland, sometimes and I quite like me. Not the best sausage but if you fry them nice, they are quite nice. I do like the odd sausage and bacon, sausage omelette for breakfast or sausage mash peas and gravy for lunch or dinner. I watched Blue Van Man reviewing Harvester cooked breakfast and it looked so good. I was starving aswell. Sausage looked great. Nicely brown. Lovely looking hash browns. Bacon etc. Although, he covered it in syrup.

I've never liked the Richmond sausages, but I recently tried their 'Sausage Patties' and they were quite tasty. Finished them off fairly rapidly and have just got another pack in from Iceland! 😋

That would be a good comparison as there are a few different pork patties on the market. Asda, iceland, richmond, slimming world etc.

I did a comparison using the normal oven, and an airfryer with the normal Richmond sausages and found the airfryer doesn’t brown the sausages as well.

Hi Gareth, this essential line in Asda is great. The sausages looked far better than the Richmond's. It's a pity I don't have an Asda anywhere near me. Thanks for the review mate. 👍

Hi Ian. My nearest asda is over 10 miles away so I get things delivered from them
@GeekfromYorkshire2 жыл бұрын
@@yodaslovetoy I am thinking similar, I visited a family member in another town who had a nearby Asda, tried some of their stuff, and now I'm thinking of getting an Asda delivery. Note: I don't drive so it's bike/walk radius for me, Asda is way other side of town, up a hill..... dodgy bike storage. I've been using the nearby Tesco but it's adding 10p a week to every item.

Hi mate try the asda essentials irish stew. Bit of pepper & brown sauce, bread & butter. SPOT ON!

Good review Gareth Ty, One thing I could never skimp on is a real sausage, Got to be local butchers best for me! I only eat sausages about once every two months so cost is not prohibitive on this treat, although watching costs I still will make three meals out of a pack of six, freezing some for later.

I think I will give the Asda sausages a go on your recommendation. Have to say I didn't like the look of those other things. YUK. Seems Asda just essentials range is pretty darn good. Thank you for all of your recommendations, they are a great help 👍👍

The reason they are both 42% pork is that in the UK it can't be called a sausage if it has less than 42% meat but the quality of pork can differ from cheaper products.

I've had the these essentials ones before, they are what I call cheap cafe/breakfast sausages! I'd give these a 9/10. Never been keen on the essentials burgers tho

Can you do supermarket own brand chicken nuggets vs the expensive ones?
@zandraling91212 жыл бұрын
Did I read that wrong or did the traffic light on the front of the packs show values for 1x Richmond sausage vs 2x essentials?
@zandraling91212 жыл бұрын
Think the biggest difference in texture comes from the rusk in the Richmond vs the flour in the essentials. The flour will make it denser and smoother
@BaldFoodieGuy2 жыл бұрын
yes Richmond uncooked too.

When you did the comparison the Asda numbers were for 2 sausages and the Richmond was for 1. Asda had me when I saw the spices ginger, nutmeg, white pepper, cardamom and mace they have to taste good. So am off to Asda tomorrow as I love me a sausage butty with brown sauce!
