Buizel is definitely one of Ash’s best water types. Him being traded from Dawn to Ash was honestly perfect, as from then on fourth, especially with his first two gym battles, he’s shown how much of a determined and strong willed battler he truly is.

I usually struggle having a definitive favorite Pokémon of each type, but the Buizel line are undeniably my favorite water types, and Ash's Buizel played a huge role in that. Shame he didn't evolve like the rest. Still, I'm glad to see my boy get covered.

Buizel was essentially everything Charizard used to be except without a tragic backstory of abandonment or laziness in battle. Buizel was brash, arrogant and overconfident, but at least he could back it up. Ash was the trainer he needed to increase his strength further because the two share a mutual eagerness to battle and goal to become stronger. Buizel came to realize that he'd never get where he is now just by staying in one place and fighting passing trainers his whole life, the key to his success was ultimately aiming bigger, as in battling other trainers of ever growing strength levels across the world, something Ash could provide, which would also satisfy his passion for battling. Buizel shook off his excessive arrogance over time as Ash taught him to not underestimate his opponents, considering Buizel's arrogance and overconfidence spurred him into challenging Lucien and predictably he got his ass handed to him, partially because he stubbornly ignored Dawn and disobeyed her every command. This defeat really humbled him and bruised his ego big time, it was necessary for his growth for him to realise he had a long way to go before he could call himself the very best, like no-one ever was. Like I said, Ash was a better fit for Buizel than Dawn because he has the ability to understand pokemon much better than those around him and adapt to their needs accordingly, he succeeded where Dawn failed in getting through to Buizel. For this reason Buizel respected Ash and saw him as a worthy trainer, friend and mentor, and never disobeyed him, not once (except that one occasion when he got confused by Drifloon's psychic but that was unintentional), unlike with Dawn. Buizel obeyed Lucian because the latter proved himself firsthand as a far stronger, skilled and more experienced battler during their earlier bout and, like Ash, properly understands pokemon, this shows that as far as Buizel's pride goes, he is willing to swallow it for his own benefit and acknowledge those he considers worthy, even obeying them out of genuine trust. I'm proud of Buizel's growth as a character, going from being a callous thug to becoming refined and noble warrior.

I always wondered why buizel originally belonged to dawn. But now I think it was to reinforce the DP theme, that was so crucial in ashs rivalry with paul. Dawn and ash will even trade or give away a pokemon if its the right thing for their pokemon, while paul would just release them.

Ash always seemed to do better training and battling with Kingler, Clorfish, and Buizel than he did with Squirtle, Totadile, and Oshawatt. His Froakie-Greninja is the exception, but I kinda find it intresting how Ash when it came to water pokemon Ash was consistently better at brining ot the strength of non starter ones.

@@LoneWolf20213 I don't think there would be much changes aside from an additional new fully evolved powerhouse, cause the writers just gave Buizel Ice Punch and called it a day. Having learned one move and not doing anything else contributed to Buizel's losses to Kenny's Empoleon and Paul's Drapion, even if Buizel did defeat Paul's Gastrodon. While Torterra could have gotten more wins, at least he fully evolved to give Ash extra firepower even if the execution did not work well.

I remember when Buizel was first traded to Ash, I was unhappy about Ash losing aipom even though I was happy he got his needed water type of Sinnoh in Buizel. When it was using its first gym battle, I could tell right away that Ash and Buizel were great together, and that the trade was a wise decision. Especially since Dawn ended up getting the short end of the stick when ambipom left. If Ambipom was gonna leave Ash anyway, Ash might as well trade it. What Dawn dosent know won’t hurt her. 😂

I love the Buizel line (Floatzel is one of my favorite Water-types) as well, but I do agree that putting Buizel out of focus in favor of Infernape and not having him become Floatzel is downright stupid. What's wrong with Ash owning a Floatzel?! Floatzel also has Swift Swim as an ability like Buizel.

Buizels story arc had so many cool gimmicks. they explored him to the fullest with swift swim strats, the inflatable neck sac being used as an escape strat, ice aqua jet, him learning ice punch . honestly complete character

Buizel... My buddy! I love this little guy! I compare him to Swellow and Hawlucha. I loved his trade episode and battles with Ash. His personality is one of my Personal favorites and, to me, is underrated. I also loved the Ice Punch training episode. I just wish he and Swellow had met at some point in Sinnoh. That would have been awesome, given their similar personalities and capture episodes. Their battle would have awesome too. Overall, Buizel is one of Ash's coolest and most memorable lightweights and, easily, one of my Top Ten Favorite Pokémon of Ash’s of All-time... And it's not hard to see why. Bui-Bui!

Definitely agree that the writers owe Ash a Floatzel. Instead, the writers overused the tradition of not letting six of Ash's Water-types fully evolved (Buizel is the 4th member of this group). Nowadays, this overused cliche is widely reviled by fans.

Dude had quite the first showing, but man did he fall off hard after Fantina. Going from beating Dawn, Zoey, and Ash’s aces as a wild Pokémon to losing to mere Coordinator mons like Kenny’s Empoleon and being used to defeat a mere scout. And the less said about Byron’s Steelix, the better.

I love ash’s buizel I even prefer him over piplup tbh! (I don’t hold anything against piplup! I just prefer dawn having piplup over ash.) also I can see buizel interact more with ash’s other water types, and I think if misty were to give him a hug buizel would resist! But I can see him have rivalry with Paul’s weavile and deside to stay a buizel instead of evolving! Also speaking of which the battle he with crasher wakes floatzle! And the way he defeated Paul’s gastrodon was impressive too. Great video professor and I look forward to see what Pokémon you do next.

Love Ash's Buizel. It always had such a competitive personality. Only thing I don't like about it are the circumstances leading upto how it ended up with Ash. Coz Aipom seemed like a fun edition to Ash's team and it seemed to have a nice personality too. And then it got traded to Dawn for the most absurd reason like "it prefers Pokemon contests" and then that whole angle became pointless after it left her to become a ping pong player.

Man, memories with this one (1). Buizel wasn't my outright favourite, my younger self was dying to see the Ash's Starley/Staravia at the time at. But I will always remember, and my hand to god to this day hears later, how much I absolutely love the epicness of Buizel vs Lucario. It was tense, the roof got blown off and then Swift Swim and a new ability was learned then combine eith Aqua jet. I wanted him against Cynthia so bad and maybe get a little bit humbled or something. (I looked forward to her appearances and still do when rewatching.) Buizel vs Lucario cemented his spot as a favourite. Not high up but in the top ten (10) of my Sinnoh favourites. 😍😍

The counter shield that is such a good way to attack and defend at the same time you'd think ash would use it more through out his travels. After sinnoh he only use it again twice once against iris haxorus and against Cynthia's Spiritomb

Buizel certainly was a better choice for Ash to have on his team, as Buizel was more so of a battler and Dawn trading for Ash’s aipom certainly worked out best for both of them. Aipom did showcase a liking to Pokémon contests thus was an ideal trade for Ash to have Buizel and Dawn to have Aipom, though would’ve been nice if Buizel evolved as Floatzel would be a culmination of Buizel’s training and experience.

i can only imagine how things wouldve been if Ash had Chimchar as an ace instead of Infernape. he always had the energy to be one but even then he always went down after taking someone else down beforehand. he always guaranteed ash a short lead. its just his cocky attitude that gets the best or him leading to him usually being the first on ashes team to go down during a match
