It's a lonely man's equivalent to giving twenty bucks to a person who is kind of your friend but not really because they're stingy as hell and only hover around you because you sometimes pick up their tab, and then asking them to go to Harris Teeter for you and buy tasty-looking gourmet snacks. This is basically the same thing. Your best bet is, of course, to visit online food catalogues (if you live in the middle of nowhere but possess the necessary money and fascination) or to visit any number of gourmet or niche-cultural supermarkets (even if you can't speak the language and feel out of place, there's nothing wrong with visiting a store that loads up on foods outside of your own culture, nor should you feel shy about asking shopkeepers to translate some of the more esoteric stuff for you).

British pancakes are more like crepes. American pancakes are much more like cake, I suppose. It's weird that there are strange overlaps in the language like that. Most people just call those "granola bars" in the US. Though most people in the US call pancakes, pancakes. You'd almost never hear them called flapjacks. Flapjack seems like a more rural, old-timey name for pancakes in North America. Either way I've never in my life heard that term addressing granola bars.

Dmanbiker Oh, we have granola or cereal bars as well. A flapjack is far more sickly sweet and the grain is very dense and chewy. For me, a granola bar has a drier consistency- often more airy too. A flapjack is entirely unhealthy but a granola bar is perceived as a healthy snack. But maybe that's an imagined distinction on my part. :)

I did a backpacking trip at Philmont Scout Ranch this summer, and one of the main brands of food provided for us to eat on the trail was Honey Stingers. I have to say that the ginger one sounds better than the ones I got, as the other waffles are very sweet and overpowering in my experience. The gummies however, are quite delicious.
