Ashes of Creation Freeholds: The Solution to ArcheAge's Land Problem?

ArcheAge Classic reminded me of how frustrating land systems in MMOs can be. Could Ashes of Creation’s freehold system fix this? Join me as I compare both games' land systems and explain why freeholds in Ashes could offer a more balanced and exciting experience.

My guild will have one, But between being the guild leader and trying to become the Node mayor It will probably be one of my officers that actually owns and manages it.

@@cd8788 LOL So you're the one to blame! :) What I didn't like was I heard their was a clicker program that people waiting for land could basically instantly place it. If that's the case that's pretty rotten. AoC's bid system hopefully will be much better, We shall see. Thanks for the comment!

@@cd8788 And there was never a problem getting land, just people angry that they had to pay other people for it when someone somewhere once got it for free.

the housing system in archeage was one of the greatest things to have in an mmorpg like that, honestly. sure it could have been better in terms of the land and everything. But it was so cool to just own a part of the land, try to find a good spot, build your house and everybody can even see your house. and you know it exists and persists in the world were you logged on or off and not in some arbitary separate instance. I'd love to see a similar system like in star wars galaxies to be in AoC. So you could for example turn your house into a shop and sell items or an inn etc.

i'm gonna add here that it would be cool if you could build almost anywhere in an area. The guilds that rule the major cities at that time will set a tax rate which is then paid by the people who live in that province. Through crafting or auction house or other means. So the whole voting for mayor would have some merit to see what the candidates offer. cheap taxes -> people want to move in that area. More people in the area -> more tax money for the guild. I don't know, could be an interesting system.

I actually liked the land rush system and illegal farming you had to do before it haha. But the no houses left thing sucked, as we speak I'm still trying to find a place haha. Thanks for the comment!

@@TheHiddenDaggerInn yea i remember the multiple times me and my friend used to wake up at 4-5am to cut some illegal trees farm. and theres always a huge competition of multiple people there including the original owner. 🤣 good times. still one of my favourite mmo memories is just playing archeage.

Yeah, I'll be disappointed if there's no personal land, guild owned land is cool for the guilds, but I sure don't want my house to be owned by a guild.

I feel that most guilds will have one or two freeholds for processing. Most players will own housing is weaker nodes and thus must travel to metropolises for crafting.

Ya my thinking for this video was large guilds wanting to have multiple freeholds in the same area, at maybe a few different nodes. Guilds will for sure hold a heavy presence. Thanks as always David!

*PvP on the FreeHold site should only be available after a Node Siege, but never inside the house.*

I don't think they ever specifically said they could PvP inside the house after a successful node siege, but their must be a mechanic they can destroy the house on the freehold if they're in fact going to be able to destroy and loot it. Now when it's not sieged I know they said even bounty hunters won't be able to enter. Thanks for the comment and welcome!

Still no real Knowledge about ArcheAge, but nice to find this out. In the Case of Doubt -> i think every single Freehold might be owned by some Teams of People. I dunno. It just has this absolute *"Sweat-Lord Atmosphere"* these Days whenever People talk about it. Like no one has an Idea how much one actually must do to get One -> but everyone secretely wants One without admitting it. 😎

@@AszkalonOfVerra I am not sure if I really want one. Because the risk of loosing it could be pretty high and with loosing your freeholds you will probably loose all your buildings and upgrades you reached for that freehold. So I dunno if I want to spend so many hours of farming upgrade materials just to upgrade your buildings and see how it burns down when a streamer guild runs over your node. Most likely I will try to gain some wealth and pay other's later so they can refine me some late game materials.

You just know Games have Problems, when *ONE. GAME.* has more or less all the Solutions to these other Game's Problems. From time to time you will always find Contents in some Games, where Playerbases from other Games have sometimes asked for *"many Years"* to receive these Contents - but the Developers don't really give any damn about their Wishes. Okay, Ashes is extra and specifically designed to have the Contents it will have. But even things like instanced Playerhousing for Example is even today in for Example Worst of Warcraft a Content which will never come for the Players. An Instance of their own ? A Guildhall ? And honestly : the Garrisons of Warlords of Dreanor are not it. Final Fantasy has instanced Housing - but not the alleged King of MMO's called WoW. 😆😁

Ya many games have had good concepts, Steven being a gamer has used them and made them better! Games have been stealing stuff for years from each other, if it works why not, but always room for improvement. Take care my friend from Germany!

Question of the Century: Will AOC fully release before Star Citizen?

Honestly even though I have a ship in Star Citizen I don't really follow it. That being said SC keeps scope creeping, so it might be a bit before they do a full release. with the real alpha 2 (persistent) in May I expect at least a full year of that. I could see a Q4 or Q1 release at the end of 2025 or early 2026 depending on what obstacles they face. with all the testers they will have and they keep adding more talent this should speed the process up. No one really knows though, thanks for the comment.

Unfortunately, this rewards those that can put 12 hours a day into the game. While punishes those that have far less time. One thing, this video opened my eyes, i have no reason to uograde my Voyage pack to the one with the freehold skin. Ill never be able to get a freehold.

Never say never, but early on it will be difficult. It might help you narrow down your professions you 're thinking about. Also families can have up to 9 people if they're married so if you're in a very active family it's still possible, they might own it and they can give you rights to use it so keep fighting the good fight! It's a shame they tied housing to making money/gameplay. Such a beautiful game. I wish we could have dedicated servers where we can play co-op with just our friends. It would be a fantastic game for RP. I wish they would simply sell the game on UE5 and let us do what we want with the assets so long as we don't make any money off them. My friends and I have no desire to compete with people who can log into a game every day or play for 8 hours at a time. We want to decorate, create RP settings, and write our stories. I'd never play a game where we could lose our RP setting.

Ya, it was a very fun game that the publishers just couldn't get out of their own way. At least AoC is trying to improve on some of their systems and hopefully will be much better run. Thanks for the comment and welcome.

They’re still gonna have some form of instanced land so it’s really not a big deal

@@Azuma951 Only instanced land will be Apartments and Inn's , They have a finite number of Static homes on the node itself. Freeholds are more for people who want High end processing, or run a tavern. But yes, there will be a form of housing for everyone depending on their needs.

Remember apartments will be limited at nodes, the mayor has a option to build more but this takes away from something else, on a server with eventually 50k players registered to the server popular nodes very well might be full.
