I loved OG RE4 but you don’t see much of his trauma present in it. In the remake you can tell he feels like a slave to the government with no direction yet he just wants to break out and just be normal again, yet his job doesn’t allow it. The fact he survived RC forced him into a position he didn’t necessarily want to be in.

It let's you know he's grown as a character since the last we seen him re2. He's become more patience and can keep his cool in a life or death situation.

My question is, when people complain about Leon being more serious, etc... I have to ask if they actually watched the opening flashback 'summary' of RE2, straight into his induction into, and subsequent grueling training under Krauser, etc. etc. etc. Basically pointing out that he's hardened and trained HARD since Raccoon City? Is it so difficult to believe that what he experienced in Racoon City wouldn't have a huge impact on him? The man is basically a hardened agent doing his job. Trying to peek up a girl's skirt, making jokes about her ass, etc. have been cut for a reason. He even turned down 'overtime'.

The RE4 remake does a great job at making him feel like a traumatized, devoed of emotion person who is almost dead inside. One flaw with the RE4 remake is Leon will still make subtle quips. The game wants the player to believe Leon has fully changed into a serious nonsense character who only cares about doing his job and doesn't have time to flirt with women. In reality, it's a mask for him to hide behind his pain. Even Ada calls him out for it. "You haven't changed. You just think you have."

The issue is I see many people who want the cheeky, almost dare-i-say childish maturity of the original. I didn't even notice a lot of the more.. sketchy stuff he'd say in the original until I played the remake. And between the two, I have to give this one to the Remake. I'm not typically that interested in remakes, but I honestly feel like the remake in many ways just up the original. (Except cutting U3 from the base game and giving that kill to Ada). TL:DR Chris Redfield needed roids and a boulder to punch to develop. Leon just need a few years training under Krauser, and taking his job more seriosuly.

Newer Leon is a bit more realistic. He is keeping it professional. The “Ok” is a verbal signal to her to end the hug. It’s “that’s enough” without being mean. Also it’s clear throughout the story that she has a small crush on him via her occasional flirts and her asking about Ada. He is just maintaining the professionalism by keeping focused on the mission and not being overtly emotional toward Ashley in any regard (even a celebratory hug)

He's probably the most emotive in the game!

I think what Leon says to Ashley in the remake is more impact full than the hug in the original. Sure the hug was more stiff in the remake but Leon is an agent, he just woke up and probably wants to assess for any danger first. I prefer the original, too emotive but short lived because of the situation they're in. Leon's "you did good" while hugging her says a lot, and the damn smile as the cutscene fades. The way they comfort each other is pure gold.
