@@kirkhamandy They could have the thought that you're a good driver who cares about their car like them, and parking side by side is like both of you being parked next to a kerb or wall, your cars protect the side of the other from being hit by an idiot like that lady. Likewise if you're parking somewhere where the option is to park next to a car that appears looked after vs one that's beaten up, wouldn't you park next to the one that looks better looked after? You can't judge what will drive into the car park after you but if there is a car present that looks cared for then you can park next to it and be reasonable confident that they won't damage your car when leaving if they get back before you but also their car will protect your car from that side for as long as they're there. You can ask for their name and address, which you can then use (along with your dashcam footage) to claim against their insurance instead of yours. This, of course, depends on the lady’s car actually being insured - if it wasn’t, it could be a reason why she didn’t stop - and whether or not you decide you want to make a claim or pay for it from your own pocket. Ashley, it must be something to do with DIY shops as a very similar thing happened to me at Wickes. My camera was off but I was fortunate enough to come out of the shop just as the culprit was leaving. It was a white van that had been parked in the next space but, like you, I had parked as far away from it as possible in what was actually a very wide space. He just pulled out at too sharp an angle and scraped across the front corner of my car. My insurance also waived the excess as it was clearly the other driver at fault and it was fully settled by his insurer but, annoyingly, it is still showing on the insurance accident database as being my fault (this happened in August 2018) which has an impact on my insurance renewals. I have tried, and am still trying, to get this put right but, although it sounds an easy fix, I haven't succeeded yet.

I feel like going trough insurance has become a last resort mean to get things done... I live in Paris, streets are tight and bigger cars don't even fit in the 2 meter wide parkings spots. In 12 years of ownership of our Saab, we have reported 3 incidents to our insurance company and they ended up terminating our contract despite the fact that we were never at fault and were always able to provide the information of the driver at fault... When you get your contract terminated by an insurance company, it is very difficult to find a company that will work with you. In order to re-insure the Saab, we ended up going to insurance companies saying "if you work with us, we will insure our five cars with you + the house". I once hit the mirror of a parked car, I stopped, left my phone number on the car and ended up paying 80 euros for the repairs and that was the end of it. The owner of the other car couldn't believe I had the decency of owning up to my mistake.

Disappointing that the police will not prosecute, simple incident, clear video evidence, a clear view of her face. I'd guess any solicitor wold advise her to plead guilty, 10 minutes of court time. I've only once attempted a hit and run. As a student, I was manoeuvering out of a small carpark. I reversed and thought I hit another car. After another couple of minutes turning round (yes, the car park was tiny) I got out and found I had hit a low garden wall. Big, big sigh of relief. One evening I had a knock at my door and a new neighbour I had never met apologized for hitting my car while turning his lorry. My driver's door was banged in and I couldn't open it. Kudos for being honest as I would never have known until the next day.

But unfortunately this is the world we live in and people like this woman who bumped into your car are everywhere!!😮 I had an idea the police would do absolutely nothing! I even commented that on your community post yesterday, when you announced this forth coming video! Any way they can avoid any involvement in 'minor' traffic bumps like this and let the insurance companies deal with them, is reducing their work load and naughtily, 'manipulates' the real crime figures!! She probably does this every week, looking at how many bumps were on the corners of her car! But what this doesn't do is protect the public because one day she'll probably knock someone off a bike or run someone over! 🤔 At the very least the police should have a word with her about the incident!👍😎 Things to do to mitigate this happening in future- I always park at the rear of this type of carpark, furthest away from the shops, where nobody else parks! I've even parked straddling over 2 spaces, especially on very tight carparks! There are some carparks I just won't park in, I'd rather find a quiet road somewhere else less busy than risk some scroat dinging my car! I've even sat in my car and get my wife to go in the shops! Unbelievably some woman parked uncomfortably close to me, could hardly get out of her car, she knew I was sat in there, so you'd think she'd be extra careful? Not at all, as she was getting her children out of the back she slammed her car door into mine!! She didn't even bat an eye lid lol, not even an apology when I asked her to be a bit more careful and respectful of other peoples property, she couldn't careless! Luckily no dent but a tiny paint chip I found later after a closer examination, which I had to just dab a bit of paint into.😮🤔😔

As the car park was covered by cctv she has made a FOI request to the car park owners and is currently waiting their reply. As you say, some (too many these days) people have no morals or conscience and with the Police not prepared to take the matter further it will get worse.

They didn't even want the details for their records. They fobbed me off on some national task force whose phone line rang through to a "press blah for foo" system and then immediately disconnected the call after you got through the various levels and the thing on their web site for filing a report had assumptions that were unhelpful (chief among them that you actually knew who tried to defraud you) and it didn't work anyway. Around here, they only seem to be interested in sitting in their cars taking photographs of cars speeding. Yes, I know speeding is a problem. But they'll ignore people blowing stop signs and all manner of other infractions that occur right in front of them. Seems to me that running stop signs and the like is far more problematic than the people doing 10 over the limit on an empty freeway.)

Two of the incidents were a few weeks apart, each costing me £400 a time to get it fixed to avoid insurance premium increases. When I took the car in the second time, the body shop owner said he’s been in the business for 15 years and in that time, the number of customers coming in with courtesy notes from other drivers left on windscreens has gone from a regular occurrence to almost never. It seems common decency is a dying art in this country, and it’s interesting to see it’s not all the part of the younger generations, who so often get all the blame for being careless and not wanting to face the consequences for their actions.

A few years ago, just two hours after I picked up my very first brand new car, I did just that in our local Asda. I popped in for not very much, milk and bread probably, came out and couldn’t get to my driver’s door due to a beat up old car parked alongside, loads of empty spaces all around. Thankfully they hadn’t hit my shiny new motor. It turned out they were still in their car and, initially, refused to move. Once I started taking photos they started up and moved off.

I park pretty much just like you described. If the carpark is large but there is an empty area "at the back" or away from shop entrances then I will park over there away from everyone and just get a wee bit of exercise in walking those few extra steps to the shops. If it is a smaller/busier carpark I will always look for that end bay which leaves only the potential for one car to park beside me and I will keep my car tight to the white line of the bay nearest the end. I also always reverse into parking bays because I drive a mk4 mondeo and these cars are notoriously long so very hard to drive straight into bays. I find that generally this works well but what I have seen on occasion is that the extra space that I leave for someone to open their door in the bay beside me, it actually invites bad drivers to drive into that bay because of the extra room. That is actually precisely what happened here in your case. Leaving the extra space makes the bad drivers think "Oh, I'll get in there" so taking all these steps to be as careful as possible can backfire on us when the bad drivers are out. I didn't like the way she even went up to your car after she hit it and said "I never did that" and she walks off. I hope she has learned from this but I doubt it.

My car was parked outside my workplace and had a nest CCTV camera covering it too. He must have been terminally stupid to come back because I was waiting for him with footage and asked him why he didn't tell anybody about it. He didn't really have an answer and expected to get away with it. Anyway, we managed to sort it and he paid me £300 for a new headlight and a few hour's labour because the front bumper has to be removed to change headlights on my Audi.

In previous video I said parking at a parking lot like this is begging for accident. But now I see Ashley knows about this stuff, end spaces and whatnot. I always park on the left end space with my left door on the left (left hand drive car), so after 3 and a half years I "only" got a small ding on the right back door. Most people are careless, so most you can protect is one side of the car. And it's best to protect the driver's side as that is what you are looking at 99% of the time. Doesn't even matter where you park, even if middle of nowhere, you are still at a risk someone parks right besides you at a very close distance as most people have a habit of parking in tight spaces and so they park tightly even if only one car.
