@ProckGnosis
@ProckGnosis 4 жыл бұрын
@@shawnsaul7759 I was impressed enough with the sounds on the Skulpt that if the Argon8 can do all that but with more voices, an easier-to-use interface, and a few more Modal 002 features, then I'll be very interested...especially if they hit that price point of approx. $700.

I am on the same page, the form factor is to die for, and I really really need a good ribbon to midi...but the sound is a bit vst-ish to my ears. The modals seems slightly warmer imo.
@RoomAtTheTopStudio
@RoomAtTheTopStudio 4 жыл бұрын
@@MrBothandNether I agree. The Argon8 does sound warmer. The Hydrasynth may not sound as warm but I can imagine what I can do with it's features and with a studio full of "warm" synths maybe a "vst-ish" type of synth is actually needed to get hands on with and sound different from the rest.

Reminds me of the Kawai K5000. Oscillator display thingie makes it look sciency but is of no real use, is it?
@metaspherz
@metaspherz 4 жыл бұрын
I kind of agree. The oscillator display might not be of practical use unless you're interested in sound design. I know that Korg Monologue's display helped me to understand the subtle relationships between sounds and their shapes. Seeing is believing, so to speak. I now know what a sine wave looks like and sounds like over time as it evolves. You can't get that with just an image of the waveform. Same with the sawtooth, etc.. Now when I hear certain sounds on the street I can relate to them and even imagine their shapes in my mind. Then when I play I can reinforce the various waveform shapes on the display with what my mind's eye sees. I think the display can be useful as a learning tool.

Reminds of the Kawai K4. So it seems like a very modernized version of those early digital Kawai Synths. Certainly not to be compared to VA Stuff. Love the sound.

So you guys already tried both contenders: the Argon8 and the Hydrasynth. Which one excites you the most regarding sound design? Which wavetables engine sounds better to you? Which one offers more modulation possibilities? Which one seems to take you to more unusual timbral terrains? Hopefully, you can give your frank opinion and not one of those well known “it depends on what you are looking for.” I’d like t know YOUR take. I know the Argon8 is not finished, but the engine already has a character and a direction.
@HotStrange
@HotStrange 4 жыл бұрын
Speaking objectively the Hydra has much more in the way of sound design and unique timbre possibilities but both offer a lot. I preordered the Hydra as soon as it was announced, but I may get the Argon8 down the road. The Hydra has so many features, though, it’s hard to pass up for the price. Also, you can create your own wavetables on is vs the factory made wavetables on the Argon8. In the end it does depend on what you like better. I wouldn’t let what they think about it influence what you spend your money on.

Having listened to both the Argon8 and Hydrasynth demos from Bonedo Synthesizers my only conclusion is that I want both. The things that the Hydra can do are what I desire but the patch 2:22 on kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKfVqquJfsqSlac puts the Argon8 firmly on the wanted list. I love the character of the sound of this synth even though at the start I was biased in favor of the Hydra. Thank you Bonedo Synthesizers for a great demonstration of both of them.
@ksqmusic
@ksqmusic 4 жыл бұрын
I got to play both at Knobcon. It surprised me that for almost half the price, the Argon8 sounded significantly better. The Hydra presets were flashy with effects, but starting with an init patch, it sounds weak compared to the Argon. If I did a "blind" comparison and had to guess which was $1299 and which was $699- I'd of guessed the Modal to have been the $1299 synth.
@RoomAtTheTopStudio
@RoomAtTheTopStudio 4 жыл бұрын
@@ksqmusic sometimes the brittle harsh and weak sounds are what's needed in a mix as too much warmth doesn't leave enough space. The Argon8 does a very good job with pad sounds from what I've heard on demos. I have analogue synths that give me warm pads though. I don't have analogue synths that give me what the Hydra does though. I am inclined to get both as they will both fill a void that's in my sonic palette and will still be less expensive than a Summit.

@@andrewkirk6452 Sure - You'd only have to make a MIDI (or CV/gate) connection and run them both on the same channel. Also, you could use the Sub Phatty's external input (or vice versa) to have them sharing the same signal path.

Most of these demos are playing the factory presets which probably utilize tons of mod routings and effects to show off the capabilities of the synth. With some less extensive patching I’m sure you can get whatever kind of sound you’re looking for.

The deluxe probably has the noisiest key-action, I've ever heard on a synth. On top, couple of keys are real sticky, when coming up from an Aftertouch position. Not a key bed I would wanna play piano sounds on. And there I thought this would be "the one and only" for me. Another thing, that surprised me, was how little headroom it has, leading to some nasty clipping. Not going to listen to rave reviews on KZbin for a while!

@MusicGearNuts

it is supposed to be sharp and clean. If you want to thicken it, you saturate it with a solid state pre-amp preferably into a filter to roll off the top. The "analogue" sound is all about degrading a perfectly clean and stable signal.
