Some times I wish I knew about Asia more a lot earlier in my life. Feels like a regret of mine almost. One of my dreams was to shake John Wetton's hand and to finally met the band or to see them live. However, I grew up not knowing much about things like tours and such until I got a lot older. Certain Mr. Wetton passed around the time I was struggling with third grade, where I was constantly moving. I'm in love with Asia, their music especially. If I never knew about it, I don't know where I'd be right now. I hope John's doing well even after he has passed on. Asia inspires me in ways I cannot easily describe.

Saw them during the Asian Invasion '82 tour at Kingswood Theatre, Toronto. I still recall Carl's drum solo in the middle of the tune - then the kit started rotating. Highlight of the show. RIP John Wetton. Epic voice and musical talent. Thanks for all the great music over the decades.

Bragging rights. He'd had stacks to all sides in the previous tour and he ran out of sides! Downes was always a first-rate keyboard orchestrator and he didn't want to give up what he was doing in the studio. Now, to an extent this is overkill in that if there were such-and-such keyboard he wanted on one hand and another keyboard on the other hand, he'd locate them on the same stack or at least adjacent stacks. This is essentially pre-MIDI so he couldn't just have a small number of controllers running racks of instruments. So this is overkill but you know, in progressive rock, "more" generally equals "good."

I though Greg Lake was okay as a replacement for John Wetton, but this lineup didn't last long. I do think Wetton is the better singer. He was also the first person I ever remember seeing using a pick on a bass guitar.
@GeorgeAPadilla8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree. Lake was great for ELP and stuff he did, but for Asia, it is as though Wetton owns it. Not really a 'Crimson fan, so I like to think Asia is his thing.

Pick on bass in the 1960s was very much a British thing. McCartney always used one, Entwistle used one part of the time, The Nice's Lee Jackson used one. So did the Experience's Noel Redding, Thin Lizzy's Phil Lynott. Fingerstyle came primarily from American rock and R&B in my estimation
