I’m pretty sure he actually wrote this about someone’s daughter. Like a 3 or 4 your old. It’s about how fathers will do anything to keep their daughters safe. Just like “I used to love her, but I had to kill her” wasn’t about a girl., it was about an advanced aged pet [dog].

I love this song and still know every word and I absolutely adore Slash, the lead guitarist! At the time it was said that Axl Rose wrote this song for Erin Everly, the daughter of one of the Everly Brothers, which was a famous singing duo (brothers) from the 50s and 60s. The couple did get married in 1990 and the marriage was annulled in 1991, according to my research.

Not sure about where the lyrics came from, but I've heard that the song got started when Axl heard Slash doing a finger exercise on his guitar (the intro) and then was like "this can be a song" and they jammed off of that. The "where do we go now" part was from not knowing how to end it. You guys should definitely do a deeper dive on GNR. They have a lot of great songs.

Kathy here - late to show on this reaction, but just in case you see this comment, fun fact: Slash in the hat, had a really long solo on the full version of this song, but the record label cut some of it out for the radio version, so Axel Roze insisted that the official video included his full solo. And yes, Slash is a beast! GNR was one of the great rock bands of my time. I will be 69 years old in February and I can still remember when it came out, buying the record and rushing home to hear this one because of the solo by Slash. I can still listen to this band and probably til the day I die. Thanks for such a great reaction. And glad "you are a fan"! Peace out!!

I'm gonna give it to both of you. I feel that you guys are far the best reaction team thus far. I feel that you are truthful in your reactions and even admit that most that you react to is not your genre of music but I can see that you really give it a listen and not just "HEAR" the music and that's fair and it really seems that you can appreciate music that much more. As far as the southern classic rock genre like Credence Clearwater Revival, yes, it's not something that you would tune in for your music, but let me say, I am a black male that lives in the country and there is no black/white when it comes to the soul in that southern rock. I wish that more folks would appreciate that. There is a lot of white folks that sing soulful in which I know you now know also. I like my black music, R&B, rap, and blues, but I can also get soulful music from that southern rock too. You guys are great!!!!! Keep doing what you do.

When "Appetite for Destruction" came out in 1987 it changed alot in mainstream music. I was 11 at the time it came out. They were the ones who changed what I was listening to. Before I was listen mostly to pop and then some Rock... GNR changed alot of people to listen to Rock as their main thing. If you listen to them they have elements of alot of different kind of music..... Blues, Country, southern rock, classic rock and heavy rock. Sadly the last 10-15 years has been bad to music in general. Several 14-18 years old tells me I was lucky to be a child and teenagers of the 80ties and 90ties(I also have older brothers so alot of 70ties music too) becauce the music we had... the difference in music. First time I heard some teenagers said that I was just like "Wow... I just thought I was getting old" ha ha ha ha

To put it very succinctly, “Sweet Child O’ Mine” is a love song. The titular “sweet child” actually refers to the love interest of Axl Rose, the song’s writer and performer. Even more specifically, he wrote the song in reference to his woman Erin Everly, who he even briefly married a few years later. - Still, I think it also could be a song about a baby daughter. A daughter's smile reminding of childhood memories. As fresh as the bright blue sky, sounds of innocence. I cannot imagine a parent who is not taken away to a special place when they gaze on their children. Eyes of the bluest skies and if they start to rain(cry) no parent wants to see an ounce of pain in their child. As a child our parents were usually the warm safe place to let the thunder and the rain pass us by. Where do we go now, the worry of a parent for their child future and wanting to be a part of it. - One thing I love about music is that they can gives us their own meaning. If I did not know this was a love song to Erin Everly, I could easily have thought it was about the bond of a parent and their child. I wonder what other people may interpret to inspire their own meaning from the song. - All I know is when this song comes on the radio, I turn it up and I am singing along.

My best friends daughter got married about four years ago. At her wedding reception my self and our other best friend requested this song. The DJ didn’t want to play it because he thought that the majority of the guests wouldn’t even know it since the wedding party was so young. We promised him it would be worth it. So he ended up playing it many songs later. When it came on everyone in the place came up on the dance floor. They all sang along and danced to it. I wish I would’ve recorded the shocked look on the DJ’s face. Lmao! We helped raise that girl to some good classic jams. Lol!

The entire band is crazy talented, slash is imo the best guitarist ever to play, with Izzy somewhere in the top 20 and he wrote some great lyrics as well, then Duff who could play every instrument and was a beast on base, then there is Steven before all the drugs took him out, and then Axl with his 6 octave range and another great song writer/lyricist.

Oh boy those were the days. I saw them in 1990 in Daytona Beach. MTV was there for spring break and they always had free concerts at the band shell on the beach. I actually think that Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers and Chad Smith the drummer for GnR were arrested after the show. Y'all have to check out Skid Row " I Remember You ) Official Video and 18 and Life. Sebastian Bachs vocals are out of this world!!

a curious fact: Slash in his autobiography tells that after the spectacular guitar solo they did not know how to continue the song, where do we go? It was born because they started to play and in the end it was like the end of the song

This music creeps under my skin every time I hear it. It has to be one of greatest rock songs of all time, if not the best, and we have Slash, Axl Rose and the entire band to thank for it!

Oh Slash is definitely one of the top guitar players of all time, hands down. From what I understand, he's biracial, and back in these videos you could never see his face because of his iconic rock-n-roll look! Not that it matters if he's biracial or not, but I remember wanting to see that man's face because he was around my age. We're both in our mid-50s now - time goes too fast!

I was stationed n the 32nd Armor Division in Kirchgoens Germany in 86-87, a few years behind Axle Rose. GnR offered to play a concert for the troops there and the Army denied them, that really sucked..

My favorite rock song of the 80s. You guys missed so much. I grew up watching American Bandstand, Soul Train, MTV where they played nothing but Rock and Roll. Then and I mean then.....Michael Jackson hit MTV and we were like..." man look at little Michael!" I grew up watching The Jackson 5 .... you guys missed so much. If you can get your hands on the albums of Casey Casem's weekly top 40 songs for every week for decades. I have 1 album from 1980 and I cherish it.

When GnR put their 1st album out.. Appetite for Destruction...MTV was relatively new and they refused to play the album. I can't remember who finally got them a spot on MTV..at 3am Mon morning "dead time". When they played Welcome to the Jungle within minutes the switch board was hit with over 10,000 calls and caught fire!!🤣😂
