You guys make me smile. You are witnessing one of the greatest bands of all time! Their Appetite for Destruction album is still one of the best rock albums of all time. It exploded onto the scene like a nuclear bomb! GnR became extremely famous overnight! They dominated!! Slash and Axl had incredible chemistry. I saw them perform live way back at their height of fame and I can tell you they sound even better live. Life changing event! History in the making! It’s so nice to see the younger generation introduced to GnR and to see you recognize true talent! Axl is so dynamic that it’s electric in a live performance!!!!

Couple random fun facts about this. The opening riff was just a practice exercise Slash was doing laying around the house to help practice skipping strings. Someone walked in and was like, "That's cool, we should use that!" and slash was like, "That's stupid, it's just a practice exercise." Also, the "Where do we go now?" was about the song. They were playing as they were writing it and got to that part and the singer was like, "Where do we go now?" like what should we do? and started singing it and they kept it in.

@@marinadiamondz We're both wrong. ""Somebody else said that and it just became one of those things," Slash clarified when speaking with Trunk for the Eddie Trunk Podcast (as heard below). "It wasn't a warm-up exercise. I was sitting around the house where Guns used to live at one point in '86 I guess it was and I just came up with this riff. It was just me messing around and putting notes together like any riff you do. You're like, 'This is cool,' and then you put the third note and find a melody like that. So it was a real riff, it wasn't a warm-up exercise."

These guys are perfect mix of goofy meets intelligence. You never know who’s going to hit you with the line that sticks with you. But sorry commingled from Metallica. That whole song is bassed upon “beware of dog”. It was about a double agent who tried to trick a us army member into giving up info. It’s only like 40 pages or so, read it in high school. Super awesome, but yes he was a war vet who realized he was in Germany that he looked out the window and”beware of dog” was written in German and he finally knew what was going on.

@@realmonster5866 not that I can remember. I was in high school in South Africa, so Depeche Mode was all the rage. “Welcome to the Jungle” was their first hit in South Africa, which was probably around 88 or 89, then Paradise City. They had a big fan base those days here, but for some reason in 1992/1993 the party venues started playing this song and so many bands tried to cover it. That’s when it became everyone’s favourite song. Remember it was during Apartheid so we never had any them tour here and also in the 80’s our government were like literal Nazis that banned or prevented music they didn’t like getting played on the radio. So those days we were a couple years behind with mainstream. Except for performers like Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie etc.Go figure, all black artists being played non stop by Apartheid TV and Radio Stations for white people.

Even crazier when you learn the story behind the song. They never meant for it to be taken seriously, it was supposed to be a filler. The opening riff was a warm up Slash used. There was actually a third verse, but the label thought it was too long and told them to cut it. That’s why Axle just repeats, “Where do we go now?” He really didn’t know where to go with the song 😂

I had read that in a listicle(whatever the word is?)/article about crazy facts about songs, how the into riff was just an exercise Slash was using to practice string skipping, Axl heard it and wrote lyrics to it and made them play it until it was finished. Slash hated playing the song for the longest because he thought it was just a stupid exercise he used to practice. Then the producer said it wasn't long enough and made them add the final section. Axl literally had no clue what to do with it and just started singing "where do we go now" thinking they'd eventually come up with better lyrics, but they just stuck with it 😂. I love reading about stuff like this, the 'behind the music' stories.

Slash is the guitarist that keeps on giving! They actually made the song around his riff that came to be when he was just messing about during a warm up! To end up with an iconic rock song that's defined by his natural musical ear, just puts him into a different class! Like you said, there's a lot of legendary guitarists you've had the pleasure to watch, but Slash makes the guitar sing, shout, cry, angry but with ease and flow where one note plays seamlessly into the next. Keep it up guys! Cause you're just at the tip of the iceberg. Take care 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💚

I feel so priviliged to have been a teenager when this came out and actually seeing the birth of Rock and Hip Hop. “Popcorn” Steven Adler on the freaking drums?! 🥁 C’mon! He made this sound amazing! One of the best drummers. So happy he got sober. And still can play. Glad he’s alive. He made the early “GNR” days! As did Izzy! That entire ensemble rocked! I was 10 when at my bff’s bday slumber party 🎉 and will never forget seeing this vid on MTV decades prior to selling the f out. Good ole days! 😢😂 💯 God.. was Axel pretty at the end of this vid. 😍 hehe It’s all coming back to me now.

Radio just about beat this song to death back in the day. I am not exaggerating when I say you might've heard it at least 4 times a day, every day. We got so sick of it, that when it came on the radio, someone would change the station. Hearing it now, I am able to appreciate it again. Appetite For Destruction was one of the greatest albums in rock n roll history, and remains so to this day. Excellent reaction.

I cannot tell you guys how fun it was to go to concerts at this time. Mostly general admission-wide open floor space where most people stood, danced, drank beer, etc. Some pyrotechnics, but focus was on the band, the instruments and whoever was singing. You really appreciated how everyone of them contributed. It’s so strange for an old fart like me today where people just talk about an individual performer singing. We were ALWAYS treated to drum solos, guitar solos, etc. so those folks got to show their stuff too. Not to mention tickets were like $8 and no Ticketmaster. I know I’m not alone when I say I went to several concerts a year of big name acts. Thanks for checking all these different talents out and enjoy!

Fun fact which I'm sure someone else already pointed out, the "where do we go, where do we go now" was actually something axel started repeating when the band was stuck and wasn't sure where to go next with the song. Someone latched onto it and realized it was just what they had been looking for, rather ironically. Someone else can probably provide better insight and more details to this story, but I always think about it when I hear it and had to share. PS: Love the channel guys, your reactions are honest and genuine. Earned my sub, keep up the fantastic work!
