The Knack lead singer Doug Fieger wrote the lyrics to this song, which is about a girl he fancied. Doug was in a long-term relationship when he walked into the clothing store where a high school student named Sharona Alperin (who had a boyfriend), was working. The age difference (he was about eight years older) and relationship status didn't deter Fieger, who was immediately lovestruck. With his girlfriend looking on, he invited Sharona to a show. Not long after, he broke up with the girlfriend and professed his love for Sharona, creating a weird dynamic where he would come on to her even though she had a boyfriend who often attended Knack concerts with her. It got pretty heavy when Fieger started writing songs about her - they weren't together when he composed"My Sharona." About a year after they first met, Sharona gave in and they started dating. She joined the band on tour and watched as the song Fieger wrote about her elevated them to stardom. The couple were together for about four years (and engaged at one point) before the rock and roll lifestyle and Fieger's alcoholism became too much for Sharona, and they called it off. In the aftermath, Sharona answered questions about the breakup by saying that she needed to become her own Sharona, not someone else's. After a cooling off period, Alperin and Fieger became friends. Alperin was with Fieger the last week of his life; he died of cancer on February14, 2010. Source - Songfacts

I don't know how to say this so people will listen, but every reactor to this song on KZbin listens to version with solo cut short. The guitar solo in this song is legendary and it is more than three times longer than this version. And when I say legendary, I mean legendary. It is the highlight of the song. Please listen to version that is longer with that solo. Please.

What everybody overlooks is the fact that this is one take with slight overdubbing recording. The entire album, recording and mixing cost a mere $6,000. They must only spent two or three hours of studio time, max. I brought the single, and years later finally got the album on CD. Rock on.

In around 1992 me and my friends drove from OKC to Dallas to see them in a bar. The bar had a capacity of at least 200 people and there were 10. It was kind of sad, but what was cool was that after there set ended at 10, they came out and drank with us. I still have a signed album. BTW, THEY ARE GREAT MUSICIANS. They played an epic version of All Along the Watchtower.

Ohh yong people,..ya'll are cute,..did you say ya'll played this in band, back in school?,..see,..like you said back when your young,..singing along with these songs,..and you got no idea under the sun, that they're singing about sex,..about huh, "touching feeling, squeezing "(you know like that song by Journey 😉),..and your in grade school,..singing that,..lol..Robert Palmer did a song originally done by Cherelle, who did duets with Alexander O'Neal, called "Didn't Mean To Turn You On", on his Riptide album(Addicted to Love, was monster single from album), and when they interviewed him, think on MTV, he said he had heard Cherelle sing it and couldn't believe someone so young, singing such a suggestive,..you know sexy song,..he thought it was a more adult song,..so he put it on his album,..I was in middle school I think when La Grange by ZZ TOP, came out and I'm singing along,..they're talking about, sex ranch,..you just don't realize, when your a kid,..do check out movie Reality Bites,..crazy funny scene in movie, with Winona Ryder, and Jeanne Garofalo, breaking out into dance when Sharona comes on over the store speaker, in the 7 Eleven, they're shopping in,..lol between the funions and doritos,..its halarious,..and also another good one is 8675309- Jenny, by Tommy Tutone,..that was everyone's obsession,..they couldn't play it enough on MTV,..its awesome,..it was a real phone number!,..enjoy, Godspeed, Peace ✌
