We should also give a big thumb up to the migrant cleaners who have done a lot to keep our HDB neighbourhood clean. A clean and spotless Singapore is what we're really proud of in the region. Well done Richard! Another highly inspiring video! Still remember the KTM trains trundling along the rail line from Tanjong Pagar!

Similar experiences, except I didn't get verbally abused (thank goodness? haha). Saw a teenager flinging his drink can onto the ground as he walked past me. I picked the litter up, handed it back to him, told him please don't litter. He took the can back, looking bemused, maybe because I actually returned it to him, lol. Another time, a driver was parked and threw an empty kopi plastic bag out his car window as I walked past. Also picked the kopi bag up, passed it to the driver through his car window. He oh sorry, took it back and quickly drove off. Think they never expect someone to actually pick their litter up and give them back personally =p Thank you for being a litter picker!

It seems that singaporeans actually have a sense of shame. I confronted a teenager in London for littering recently and he just looked at me like I was scum. I threw the carton he had thrown on the ground at his feet and walked off, but I know he would not pick it up, because the sense of shame has completely gone with so many in the UK. I would not have confronted him if I was in a less busy street though.

In my area, litters are mostly committed by young people. They usually like to hang out in the HDB void deck. Some would engage in motorcycle servicing. Then they would leave their food and drinks litters everywhere even though the bin is right next to them. They often engage in smoking too, which is illegal in void decks and threw the butts everywhere.

Even I as a local-born citizen, have stopped pointing out uncivil behaviour (most of the time) unless I’m “prepared” for an unpleasant retort. Thanks for being such a positive resident. We’ve come a long way since independence but we’re still a long way yet before citizens and residents become truly civic-minded. BTW the last bit you missed passes my house LOL

@@crosbyong In Singapore when you point out some anti-social behaviour, the reaction is anything but an apology. I am ready for a full blown confrontation, these sorts thrive on apathy. Same when I told an uncle on the crowded Sentosa Express he should have removed his mask to sneeze.

Old or new way of thinking doesnt matter at all. It is the responsibility. i think it is your own personal view on the society. Children are influenced by the world around them, but your actions and attitudes have the strongest influence on them when it comes to many things, including drinking, smoking or using other drugs. Setting a good example, particularly when it comes to drinking alcohol, helps protect your child from making unhealthy choices as they continue to grow and become more independent.

It's nice of you to clear trash from the Green Corridor. I know of a Singapore of the 1950-60s when the island was a rubbish dump till the new government brought in strict regulations against littering. Also most of tbe population had the bad habit of spitting every where! The Singapore of now is the cleanest place anywhere in the World. Hope the young Singaporeans will keep it that way.

Thank you Richard for helping Singapore clean up. We’re grateful. I guess the nasty teenager is no different from many teenagers elsewhere....their display of bravado (really a lack of self confidence, in my view) is more to show their peers that they are defiant and gangho. I hike down the South part of the Green Corridor with a friend, and like you, I also thought that was the end. I also didn't realize that is an extra 3 km route of the Green Corridor that leads to the iconic abandoned house, which is the real end, nearest the now defunct/closed Tanjong Pagar Railway station. Heard this railway station is going to be conserved, but converted to be part of the infrastructure of the Thomson MRT line, do not know how true is that, as I read it somewhere.

We respect you for doing this and sharing it on a platform for others to become more aware! I love this idea and think this could be something pretty big especially with such a large hiker community in Singapore. Just the other day actually we were walking in Sentosa and someone had dropped a plastic bag most likely on accident and we let them know. They turned to look at it on the floor and then said "oh that's ok. Don't worry about it." We straight up said that it's definitely not ok and they picked it up thankfully...I think there's just a need to educate more of the folks here especially while they're young about keeping SG clean. It's not just about avoiding fines, it's about respecting nature. Recycling is a whole other issue here and wish SG does something about it :( Keep at it! We're excited to do the corridor tomorrow (From Hillview to Tanjong), which is the reason why we stumbled on this! Will be vlogging our own adventure and putting it up on our channel too :)
