Different people have different preferences. If a person's preference happens to be not the same as yours, that does not make him / her more narrow-minded. What is wrong with preferring one style over another? Everyone is free to choose what style he likes or dislikes.

Every team needs defensive players to have a well rounded team. A player who can win against some offensive players and help his team mates learn to play against defensive style is imperative.

@scylla24 wrong, because JOO uses a pip-out rubber on his back hand, thats why he can not always perform a backhand attack. Also, thats the reason why Ma Long always return the chop to Joo backhand!

@Opalance the problem is, a defender's whole mindset is "I can chop more than you can loop". With the top 4 chinese players, it gets so that they can loop 200 in a row with no mistakes... at that point, the blade and rubber choice don't matter, you're just not going to win.

@gsofficial I think its because he knows that his backhand quality just isn't dangerous enough. If Ma Long can get back his forehand attack, then he definitely will get back his backhand, which is generally weaker. Against someone like Ma Long, if your quality of shot is bad, not only will he go on the offensive with his fast loops, but in the case of a weak backhand attack, he will be able to aim that loop, which means game over....

I think Joo needs a different long pip honestly...or maybe just use short pips or something, but against the extreme topspins from the Chinese, it's just too reactive to spin but cant generate enough to throw them off they have so good technique looping chops at the same time.

@gsofficial The idea though would be to become more independent of their spin and be more random, to throw off their looping, instead of just heavy heavy backspin, which they don't care how heavy it is, less and more and sidespin. You can't overpower the Chinese, have to try to win by spin variation.

@jkim519 no, they make tt just more attractive... if there would be more choppers and not one under 20 or so, i'm sure ther'd be the one or other who could play under the top 5. it's just the fact that if there are 20 off-players and just one chopper, the chance that there are more off-players under the top 10 than def players is way higher. the reason why less players play the chopper-style is NOT it's worse than off. it's simply much harder too play cause u need more different techniques

I'm a chopper who uses long pips on my backhand, and I was always taught that if they push to your backhand, you shouldn't try to chop their backspin, but rather you should attack with the pips... can someone explain why Joo Se Hyuk doesn't do this ever?

정재훈 이 말이 웃긴 게 주세혁 본인이 저 당시에 탑 선수이고 세계 무대를 15년동안 하면서 최고 8위까지 찍어보았는데 그럼 그때는 탑랭커들을 못 이겨서 그런겨? 저 영상의 마롱, 쉬신, 왕하오, 마린 등은 탑 랭커가 아니라 역대 최고급 선수들이여서 주세혁의 스타일이 한계가 있어보이지, 오히려 주세혁은 수비 탁구로는 혁신적인 플레이를 보여줬다고 평가받아서 중국에서도 위상이 높다
